The lyrics and the song title of Tripoli references the situation in Libya and might even be from the perspective of Gaddafi, his paranoia of being executed by his own people, persevering through each attempt of a coup by the USA not knowing when he'll finally succumb to their non-stop endeavors. Given Gaddafi and his ambitions he's reached a point where there is so much propaganda perpetuated against him that dying is only a matter of time, he wanted to do great things, and would be there to see it come to fruition but now he has to face his reality.

Picked up this album on a cassette in a cutout bin on a whim many years ago. I was not disappointed. I rarely love every song on an album. Hard to find on CD. So nice to hear it again. Thanks for posting. Good stuff.
Diehard metal head for life coming up on 42. When emo and Indy rock shit got super huge and most of my friends were coming out of their “ska phase” and into this stuff…. This is the ONLY band I could tolerate when we all got stoned after skating and were chilling. All these years later and in between Slayer and Iron Maiden this song will come thru the mix and it still makes anyone who knows me go huh??? Fuckin pinback…… great band
I've always thought this song was about how a liar needs to keep up appearances and keep their story straight. Single out a camera to focus on. themes about duplicity, the notion that they're living a double life and the metaphor that it's almost akin to an espionage story. It is very cleverly written.
Found this band when someone offhandedly said we sounded like them ( yeah I fucking wish, it was the 6 string pawn shop bass in place of a 2nd guitarist) if anything we sounded like early 90s 3mp with worse production haha... Anyway favorite band now. Love all their past present (and probably future) projects though Pinback is my favorite. Weird cus I was pretty heavy into 90s post hardcore in the vein of at the drive in, cursive and Thursday. This rocks but with a pop sensibility I didn't know I was craving so badly.
