A 'Brocken Spectre'. Fabulous. I have seen these when walking high in the mountains. Always a rare treat. I have never seen one like that while flying. Awesome.
Assuming you had no indications of abnormal vibration this looks to be a propagated crack. The component does not looked to have been disassembled for some time. If it was a crack it started from the thrust nut thread, possible over torque. I would have a good word with you maintenance department to check their schedules !. Well done nasty failure and a quick calm response.
He turned his GoPro off and put it in his pocket right before the autorotation. He was afraid the helicopter might flip over after contacting the water and he didn’t want to lose the GoPro or it’s footage
Yes the helicopter was assigned to that boat. It’s a tuna purse seine(big net) fishing boat they have a small helipad on top of the bridge. We were part of the 40 man crew. Our job was to fly out and spot the fish
@@snakesvt Thank you. Tuna spotting is probably an interesting job and that day it was also a particularly exciting job. Glad to see that everything worked out well for the pilot.
Well, when you auto rotate a wounded bird into relatively calm seas with adequate flotation, the opportunity to perform a sketchy as frig backward takeoff with a fully functional aircraft the next day is a blessing, I suppose. Certainly beats hanging up-side-down from a tree 100' above a croc infested swamp somewhere that gets no air traffic for days on end. Just sayin'. Premium piloting! ;)
@@snakesvt That was creative writing 101. That being said, the auto rotation to the calm sea with friends around was the next best thing to landing on the big H. Since it was right side up he did a fine job. P.S. Dad was a pilot and worked for Howard Hughes, but I haven't been in a helicopter since he used to take us on car searches above junkyards in LA. Circa the 70's.
@@kevinsellsit5584 nice. You should’ve heard the conversation over the air to air channel. He was contemplating trying to auto back to helipad luckily he came to his senses and put it in the water next to his boat.
look at the 3:30 mark. the shaft snapped in half. The piece of shaft that has the yellow castle nut should still be attached to the part in his other hand
@@rael5469 we carried a lot of extra parts on the boat. Engine and associated parts, transmission and stuff, things like that. Another pilot had the part on his boat and flew it over.

Hey bro you still got. Your truck??? How’s. It running an can I ask you a few ?s I’m in the process of building my 08 screw I bought a rousch sc off eBay an upper intake an pulleys Ann want to ask you ?
@@snakesvt i just finish getting the last little bit of parts the kit didnt come wit like a lower pulley and oil catch and also a coolant resovoir for the intercooler.i guess i need to get a few gaskets as well like intake gasket . can i use my stoke mass air flow ? not totally sure. i have a 08 Screw flexfuel 5.4
@@tylermulkey330 go on lightningrodder.com they can tell more then I can on the MAF. Let me look in my old parts off my truck. I might still have a stock lower pulley and stock IC res. Just get J&S oil sep from summit. You will have to plug the hole in the bottom of the turkey pan with a 3/8 NTP plug. As far as gaskets it’s gonna all depend on the type of supercharger intercooler and lower intake that you have
@@tylermulkey330 also you’ll probably have to get larger fuel injectors, larger fuel pumps, there’s a lot of stuff other than just a super charger you’re gonna need matter fact if you have a stock three valve 5.4 you’re gonna blow the motor up because of Rods too weak to handle all that boost.
Excuse me sir can you please make a video of a boost gauge install on a 95 buick riviera supercharged cause mine doesn't come with it and I can't find a video for it thank you sir
I can’t help with that I don’t own that car. I can say all you need is the vacuum line that runs to bypass valve and get “T” so you run a line through the fire wall to the gauge. Hope it helps
Thank you very much, i saw my boos gauge losing vaccum at idle, and when i was running i start seeing a loss on boost, i was panicking, thanks alot, this look like my problem
