Even better is his impromptu comment when he was presenting the Solar Eclipse programme in 1999. Phillipa Forrester and an Italian called Francisco were reporting from Cornwall and looked absolutely freezing. Michael Buerk said "I hope you noticed they were rubbing each other down there. Poor old Francisco came in his shorts." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tgcq2mOBUGk.html
Looking back now its amazing how unprofessional the people around her were. The snide looks and laughter behind her back. Tabloid and gossip at its worst. How do wwe know that she was fired over the surgery. It could be that she dws the one wwho wanted to leave. Why take the tabloids word that it was the surgery.
Benny was loveable as the put-upon simpleton, with a heart of gold and not a bad bone in his body. It’s a shame that the Crossroads scripts were usually poor and that they often didn’t get the best out of him. I don’t suggest that he was a bad actor ~ far from it! But after a few years he became a drifting in and out sort of character, much like Nick Cotton in East Enders. Seeing as the public warmed to Benny, with even Benny Hill once famously parodying him, the writers missed a trick by not giving him a bigger role. They did try at one point with the murder story but he was hung out to dry afterwards. It’s a shame.
He was tolerable when I watched it the first time around. Re-watching the DVDs now and I despise him. It's a pity the attempt to frame him for Linda's murder was unsuccessful.
