Shioa Por Tan Yes, that’s me with my teacher in 2006. If you look at my RU-vid videos, you can find some other (in my opinion better) video clips. There are e.g. three clips that I used as examples in my article in African Music (2016), those were also included on the DVD they attach to the journal.
There are not really any dance schools in Dakar where you could learn traditional Senegalese dances. Depending on what you are looking for, you could maybe see if there is something suitable going on at Ecole des Sables in Toubab Dialaw. There is a dance school called The Dance Hall in Dakar, but as far as I know they do not have regular classes of sabar or other traditional dances, more all kinds of urban styles. Apart from those you can look out for festivals with dance workshops or take private dance classes if you are going to Dakar.
The rest of the performance or what rest? I don't think it would be ok for me to publish the whole performance on RU-vid, although I was allowed to film it for my research.
Elina Seye The Ballet National du Senegal has been performing this very choreography for over thirty years. I learned it personally from former company member Coura N'Diaye fifteen years ago. That is why I asked where is the rest. (Nyari Gorong, Thie Bou Dienne, Koalack etc). This choreography is also on RU-vid performed by different generations of the Ballet over the years. Search 'Pangols' and you'll find it the most popular one. As many versions as their are on YT of the Ballet performing this choreography I doubt your posting would "raise an eyebrow" or cause an alarm. 😉 Besides you cut it off right at one of the most exciting parts of the choreography.
Hervin Balfour Probably not, but often things published here on RU-vid are copied by others for their video productions without permission... that has happened to me twice already although most of my videos are not even very good quality, so I'm trying to be extra careful now about what I share. This excerpt is for an article to demonstate the "ballet style" of sabar, and therefore probably not the most interesting bit from the choreography, sorry!
