First of all you DON’T use and abuse orcas for breeding purposes without the ORCAS consent or say in getting pregnant artificially inserting sperm into a orca whale is very much of a insult is it true ? that all the orcas at sea world parks die at a young age yes they do their is enough evidence on the news to prove that sad fact🐋.

Different ecotypes don't socialize or interbreed. Southern Residents are the most studied orca population in the world. Both males and females stay with their mothers their entire lives. Northern Residents have a very similar social structure, although females sometimes leave to form their own pods. Bigg's orcas have no rules. Some disperse at a young age. Some stay with their mothers for life. Some males form close friendships and travel and hunt together. Orca Behavior Institute is a great source if you're interested in that sort of thing. You've mentioned Icelandic orcas. They haven't been scientifically studied nearly as much as their Pacific Northwest counterparts. Their social scructures remain a mystery. We don't know whether or not they leave their pods. As far as oceanariums go, Seaworld is the best, especially compared to the Miami Seaquarium. I don't know if you've read the USDA report, but it's pretty damning. Several of their dolphins and manatees were emaciated and malnourished. Tokitae was fed rotting fish, forced to perform while injured, and kept in a decrepit tank filled with poor-quality water. I have to give Seaworld some credit. Their animals have access to excellent medical care, good-quality food, and clean water. However, that doesn't exempt them from criticism. They had a practice of separating mothers from their offspring. Kalina was separated from all four of her children. That is something I can't condone. Orcas have the most gyrified brains on the planet (the more wrinkled the brain, the more information it can handle). They have a highly developed paralimbic system (responsible for processing emotions). Thankfully, Seaworld stopped doing that (I believe the last separation happened in 2006). I can't condone their orca shows. They shouldn't be forced to perform cringey tricks. Zoos don't force their animals to perform, so why do marine parks still do it? I also think the tanks could be a lot bigger. Those are my criticisms. Seaworld has improved over the past few years, but they could do more. That's my opinion.

Do you have links to any non-biased peer-reviewed scientific papers? According to NOAA, the average lifespan for male orcas is about 30 years, but they can live up to at least 60 years. Females typically live about 50 years, but can live up to at least 90 years in the wild.

K7 Lummi (female Southern Resident) - died at the estimated age of 98 L25 Ocean Sun (female Southern Resident) - still alive, estimated to be over 90 J2 Granny (female Southern Resident) - she could have been anywhere between 70 to 100 years of age J1 Ruffles (male Southern Resident) - died at the estimated age of 59 T087 Harbeson (male Bigg's) - estimated to be 60 years old T018 Esperanza (female Bigg's) - estimated to be 68 years old Five captive orcas have reached the age of 40 - Lolita/Tokitae (Southern Resident, died at the estimated age of 57), Corky (Northern Resident, currently 58), Kasatka (Icelandic, died at the estimated age of 40), Kiska (Icelandic, died at the estimated age of 46), and Katina (Icelandic, currently 46). The truth is, we'll never know for certain how long orcas can live. They face many issues in the wild, such as pollution, reduced prey availability, and vessel disturbance. In captivity, they are susceptible to stress and infections (the most common causes of death among captive orcas are pneumonia and septicemia).
@BearBuildsStuff
@BearBuildsStuff 11 месяцев назад
We have only kept killer whales in captivity for around 60 years. Early stages of killer whales in captivity did not live as long therefore are not relevant to the modern killer whale captivity. Corky has outlived every member of her pod and would be the oldest. You could live to 120 but does that mean you will probably not. Killer whales life expectancy is normally only 25-50 years old and on average 25-30 for males and 30-50 for females. For reference tilikum was in his middle thirties and Ulises is currently over 40 years old. Many captive born killer whales are in their thirties Ex: Orkid, Keet, Kyuquot, and Shouka.

@@BearBuildsStuff The first orca displayed to the public was a male Southern Resident named Moby Doll. He arrived at the Vancouver Aquarium in 1961. The first orca displayed at Seaworld was a female Southern Resident named Shamu. She was captured in 1965. There have only been a few captive orcas that have lived past the age of 40. Only two lived past 50 - Tokitae and Corky. Number of orcas who have died in captivity - 182. There are several wild orcas in the Salish Sea (both Resident and Bigg's) that are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. L25 Ocean Sun is estimated to be over 95. A direct quote from NOAA - females typically live about 50 years, but can live up to at least 90 years in the wild. There are only three wild-caught orcas that are still living - Corky, Katina, and Ulises. Are some of the orcas currently in captivity going to live long lives? It's possible. I hope they do because I adore Corky, Orkid, Ikaika, and Malia. By the way, Corky hasn't 'outlived every member of her pod.' Her sister Ripple, brother Fife, niece Midsummer, great-niece Eliot, and great-nephews Fern and Ne'nakw are still alive.

@@MermaidMusings7 Although Seaworld only has 3 wild caught whales, I think it’s good to remember, Seaworld did not capture these animals they were transferred by other marine parks. We have no idea how long Corky or Ulises will live nor Takara or any of the captive whales will live. Although I cannot call myself Pro-captivity as there are some horrible facilities out there. I will speak for Seaworld as I have been there myself and saw first hand the world class animal care. We have absolutely no idea if we those specific orcas are those ages, as we did not start studying them until they were captured. Wild killer whales are still very poorly researched. The way the person in the film compared life expectancy’s is the only right way to do it, we can only count the whales we have followed from birth to death. Not a whale that people thought is 95 borne in the thirties. When they were still shooting them as target practice for the U.S military. Back then people viewed them as monsters and we knew 0 about these animals.
@MermaidMusings7
@MermaidMusings7 11 месяцев назад
@@BearBuildsStuff Seaworld hired people to capture wild orcas in Washington State and British Columbia in the 60s and mid-70s. When the U.S. and Canada banned orca captures in the mid-70s, Seaworld and other marine parks turned their attention to Iceland. Orca captures and transfers were a lucrative business. Southern Residents, Northern Residents, and Bigg's are the most well-studied orca populations in the world. Everything we know about orcas is thanks to experts such as Michael Bigg, Ken Balcomb, Graeme Ellis, John Ford, and Alexandra Morton.

About time someone said it! There is no evidence how old some of the supposedly very old females because of the species not being studied before the 1970's. This is why I take Ocean Sun or Stripe being the mothers of the two older captive whales with a grain of salt. The only way to confirm it is to collect DNA from Tokitae's (Lolita most commonly known) corpse or ashes, and collect DNA somehow from Ocean Sun to test it! Same thing with the supposed mother of Corky 2. But yeah, it's so sad that my local orcas, the Southern Residents are declining and dying young. Several have died in the past 20 years or so.
@brookelynrhodes1998
@brookelynrhodes1998 Год назад
The reason why so many anti-caps are so angry about how SeaWorld has a history of separating young orcas from their families because in nature orcas stay with their family for much of their lives. In the Resident orcas, male orcas stay with their mothers for life, only leaving the pod to mate with whales from other pods, but they come back. The females stray away from their mothers once having calves of their own, but the mothers and relatives are still very involved. The Biggs Transient Orcas have a different family structure and the offspring do leave their mothers to have their own families. A transient pod is usually a matriline with the mother and offspring of different ages. It makes me happy that Seaworld doesn't separate the families anymore.
