William Holden's warning to the company board members was some stunning foreshadowing! Too bad the ideals of “stakeholder capitalism” lost out to what ails today's world -- the corporate greed of “shareholder capitalism.” William Holden is the Everyman idealized!... a favorite!

William Holden, Frederic March, Walter Pidgeon, Barbara Stanwyck, Dean Jagger, June Allyson, Shelley Winters, Nina Foch, Paul Douglas and directed by Robert Wise. Absolutely Hollywood's best of the best in the mid-1950s.

the 3d sentence is I guess about me. I needed this lecture. Thank you so much :) The todays system of global politics of corporations (IMO usualy mistaken for capitalism) :D has betrayed me, despite my honest efforts during my education time to be able to at least get a decent job. It left me without job, perspectives of job, (probably I m not enough "ideologised" - I m not one who like to use "zero-one" method of thinking, like left and right, males and females religion and atheism white and black etc.. - to be able to get job in any kind of educational institution) and chance to show my creativity or be any service to society. I was raised in European culture on christian values, Greek philosophy, Roman civic ideals and north mythologies and folklore. Now I dont think that I have any favs in any kind of elections (called democracy by global medias), becouse most of these... persons (actors) in TV speak much about popular labels, like progress, ecology, racism, liberalism, tolerance, but nothing about freedom of countries and of individuals. And for most of the time the politicians actualy talk to each other about their careers and not to the voters. :D Now I dont have trust in my country's legal system (even though I was educated in legal topics), becouse the political parties and the big corporations (esp the pharmaceutical ones) have secured it all for themselves by corruption and by constant "reforms of law". :D For many years my escape was culture - Tolkien and myths, but also ancient and medieval music, art, and poetry. Awaken at midnight I would recite at least 30 names of greatest painters, sculptors and architects :) But now they want to brainwash me by THEIR own invented language, their own newspeak, and to ridicule my fandom before the worlds audience, and to blacken us as rasists and white-whatever-they-like-things becouse we dont like the new films and TV productions, remakes and such done recently from European classics - esp. this poor TV travesty of Tolkien's universum. Now even English speaking world of medias has the insolence to tell us how we should be using OUR OWN languages ! The English speakers who got the two most disgusting empires (dominating India and Ireland and Africa) have the insolence to tell slavic nations - enslaved for 1000 years by vikings, Germans, Arabs, Jews, and Turks - about their responsibility for slavery ! They have taken everything form us ! And becouse we have been left with nothing, we have nothing to loose. Remember global medias and corpos that ppl who got nothing to loose are the most dangerous !

Great scene, but it's a shame the next bit isn't on there, where Walling walks to the head of the table and shakes Shaw's hand. It's a clear indication that Walling means what he'd said about uniting the Tredway workers in a common goal.

How far we've fallen. We live in The Age of Whores. No one commits to anything or anyone. Relationships are all 2 years long at the most, be they business, romantic, or personal. Our whole culture is hook up culture, especially business relationships. As a business owner, you sit down with a salesman, and he is fantastic and you base your decision on the man in front of you. But, the thing is is that the contract you sign is for 5 years, and the salesman will be canned in less than 18 months. There's no chance to develop a working relationship with anyone anymore.

The obvious message and lesson here is that the visionary innovators, risk takers and others concerned with product and service quality should be the ones we regard as the true heroes of the capitalist system, while those who pinch pennies and attempt to maximize efficiency and profit with little regard for those other things (for the majority of these types, it matters not what kinds of products or services the company deals in and they have no inherent interest therein) are an entirely different breed and not worthy of our admiration and are most likely worthy of our scorn. Unfortunately where the Occupy types have things at least partially right is in their contention that today's large corporations are run much more commonly by the latter type of executive (this movie heralded that trend) than the former.
