Does anyone know how many deltics are left in the UK. That looks very sad site. I remember seeing the first data come. Must have been the 50s or 60s. Nice but sad to see that footage. 💯
pity the railways are moving away from rail mounted cranes to road cranes. What if something had to be lifted in the middle of a rail yard? Probably not likely. Some road cranes have rail wheels that could be lifted. I’ve seen photos of VR steam cranes No 18 amd 19 lifting entire diesel locomotives, a crane at each end. They were still used in the 1980s until one fell over on a minor job which was probably user error and suddenly the VR no longer used steam cranes.
Something is stuck 😮 in steps gentleman with large hammer something is no longer stuck😅 The crane is one serious piece of engineering great to see something like that preserved and doing what it was built to do 👍
Hello John, This is a fantastic video! We're putting together an episode of our 'Curator with a Camera' series on Bullied's Winston Churchill. Would you mind if we used the above video to demonstrare the vaule gear? We'd of course credit you and link to your channel. Let us know and keep up the great content!
Very, very powerful peices of kit the railway cranes . Cowan Sheldon, Ransomes and Rapier , craven brothers just 3 of many makers. immensely powerful and quite a lot are still operating on Indian and sub continental railway systems. An indictment to how well they were made.Great video production and for anybody interested in acquiring more knowledge about them the Peter Tatlow books on railway breakdown cranes volumes 1 and 2 and I think a 3rd volume will reveal all from steam power to diesel hydraulic types. Cheers.
Think it was a heap from the coal mines of Bold, Sutton Manor and Lea Green (long before the statuon was built there). Of course this heap has long been removed and many houses built on this site making this area unrecognisable today from back then!
Nice. I'd like to see video of steam crane. There are lot of detailed videos of steam engines ... well ... not going into small details such as showing how sliding valve and piston are made cause it's obviously made from at least one cast piece and two tubes with slotted holes for steam/exhaust. But no one is showing small steam engines of cranes or excavators and how they are regulated or reversed and what kind of valve gear they use.
Great video. But I still wonder WHY do you content people just love to F*** up a very good video with music. WTF. you got a great video with very good sound of Trains, Steam Trains and screw it up with Music. wtf.
These two engines are my favourite along with sir nigel gresley and tornado, but to actually see both of them running down the mainline is truly a sight to see, also great filming short but awesome, keep ip the great work dude
