Mannitol is not a good treatment for cerebral edema. Mannitol cause osmotic diuresis causing hypovolumia. CPP= MAP -ICP. So MAP drops. CPP drops. So in the cerebral microenvironment... no o2 no nutrition abandoned co2 waste Cause acidity and cell swelling and blast and necrosis... more and more inflammation... cerebral edema worsen as osmotic components in the brain exceeds Mannitol osmotic pressure...
