So so very sorry to hear about your medical ordeal. From watching your videos, I observed that you took your diet and physical fitness extremely seriously. I hope you convalesce in a pain free manner. You didn't earn this, and life can be so randomly unfair at times. THANK YOU for sharing this very personal struggle, in the past you have shared the good times and, in your authenticity, now you have enlightened us with your struggle. Sending out powerful recuperative vibes and energy to you NW♥

I really hope you spoke with a lawyer to see if action is warranted.. a surgery like that, they should have run the bowel before closing and checked for any damage. I'm going in for a hysterectomy- salpingo oophorectomy in 2 weeks for cancer.. i'm terrified. I've never had surgery as an adult (47) and not only will I be naked and strapped down to a table in a steep trendelenburg with my legs in the air and my bits hanging out while surrounded by strangers... but its also a teaching hospital so I will be surrounded by students as well. Students are allowed to perform vaginal and rectal exams on unconscious patients strictly for learning purposes (unnecessary for the surgery) without consent of the patient.. or even if patient has a clue that this happens and does not provide consent to have students in during the surgery, the DHHS made a nice little addon in the states that outlawed it saying it was all at the discretion of the surgeon. To me, this is rape.. sexual assault at the very least.. but hospitals define assault differently. (definition of rape as by Webster- unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception.) So yea.. my anxiety is pretty high.. even if the students weren't an issue.. it is very difficult to put myself willingly in this situation.. Being a caregiver I'd had lifelong experience with doctors of all temperaments.. some are lovely.. most are not and overall I do not trust them even a little. So anyone who reads this now very long (sry) post.. plz say a prayer that I come out of this just fine.. as I am still a caregiver to my mother and she was diagnosed with lung cancer with mets to her liver within a month of me being diagnosed with endometrial cancer. We have a fight ahead of us. thx for letting me vent.. since covid I no longer have anyone to listen.

I hear you. Your concerns are valid. I can’t say everything is going to be fine because what do I know. But everything is likely to go smoothly and stressing out only makes your next 2 weeks miserable. I do wish you the best.

Hi Nicole. Im very sorry you went through this. This seems kind of common when the surgeons don’t take the greatest care. Similar situation of fellow RU-vidr Antoinette Yvonne. As background, she’s an American black woman in her mid 30’s, she was world traveler, went to Van life a few years during pandemic. Then Went back to world travel, now lives in condo in Bangkok, channel is about that. She had a myomectomy laparoscopically for fibroid troubles about a year ago, they perforated her bowel and uterus, so she had a temp ileostomy for 4 months. She shared the journey, and was very emotional about the bag. In a very recent update, she shared that she developed a pop drink habit she’s still kicking because soda helped expel gas during that time and really helped push out contents into the bag. So, this, too, shall pass, and you will be 100% again in near future. Nice to see and hear you on the tube again! Take care, stay strong!

I had a vertical incision about the same length as yours. I was told in advance that it was going to be a vertical incision because the sonogram and measurement showed that it was too large to do anything else. Laparoscopy was not recommended because they prefer to remove everything whole, in case there is cancer and not risk breaking it into pieces and risk spreading the cancer. I was in hospital for 5 days. They didn’t let me go home till I passed gas and surgeon declined ordering a suppository because he didn’t want to induce the BM. Intestines have to “ wake up” on their own from the anesthesia. This takes a few days to happen. They gave me gas X to manage the gas and Miralax every da till I had my BM on day 4. Discharged on day 5. I was on strong pain medication during my stay at the hospital. Pain was mostly due to gas, that was mostly felt in my shoulder. I had a Foley catheter due to trauma to my bladder ( like you, my uterus had pressed onto my bladder and needed to be separated). I went home with the Foley catheter. My physician was supposed to remove my cervix but he decided not to do it because the cervix was pressed and attached to my rectum and he did not want to risk perforation to my rectum. My fibroids were huge too and my uterus was 1300g, 20 times the normal weight. I was sent home with prescription pain meds but on day 5 of being at home, ibuprofen was enough to manage my soreness and discomfort. It’s been a month now and my recovery has been great, I feel great. I take ibuprofen once in a while on days when I over do it otherwise, I am pain free. Foley was removed 10days after surgery and my bladder is great. My only issue is fatigue but I’m increasing my walks to regain strength. I still take miralax daily because bloating and constipation can really cause pain. Soft stool is best way to avoid pain during bowel movement. I’m shocked that they let you go home so soon, especially, knowing what happened to you during surgery.

I had a bowel perforation following an ovarian tumor removal. My doctor was honest about the mistake, and kept me in the hospital for 3 days. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything during the hospital stay in case they needed to operate again. You should have been informed of the perforation, and you should have been treated accordingly! I would say that you have grounds for a malpractice case.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy and it was the worst experience of my life, I woke up afterwards and said stomach hurt and it turned out I had internal bleeding and was not doing good..they laid me flat and after hours I said please phone my hubby as it was supposed to be day surgery , they never called him with my complications until I told them too.. I ended up staying over 4 days due to losing half my body’s blood volume … The surgeon said don’t worry your body will absorb the blood in my pelvis … 3 weeks later I was gray, feeling nausea, lump in my abdominal .. and starting leaking out black gray blood and the smell was horrific .. surgeon still didn’t want to do anything.. 2 er trips and thank goodness for my family dr put me on strong antibiotics… But I bled like this for over 3 weeks.. I smelled like a decomposing body .. For a surgery that would have taken me 3 weeks to recover was over 10 weeks, so now I have scar tissue galore in my abdominal area .. The surgeon said I was one out of 10,000 people who had complications… He nicked a vessel.. He put me through a horrible thing and wished they would have opened me up day one . No woman should go through this .. Sorry that you had an awful experience and speedy recovery to you .

Ob-Gyn's are notoriously unskilled surgeons as a whole. There are the occasional exceptions. They receive very little surgical training as the majority of their training is in obstetrics. I am an RNFA who specializes in robotic Gynecological surgeries. In the right hands, your difficult case should never have ended up as it did. I would also question why the colostomy? If they resected the damaged bowel, they can typically re-anastomose the two healthy ends. I'm very sorry your surgeon didn't do a better job of planning the surgery and didn't have the skill to take on such a challenging case.
