Simms was founded in 1980 by visionary angler and longtime river guide John Simms. Having spent decades providing clients with life-changing experiences on the world’s most majestic rivers, John realized the waders available at that time weren’t up to the job of keeping the folks he was guiding dry, comfortable and safe on the river. Never mind the guides who, as he did, lived and breathed the sport 150+ days a year. So, he set about creating products worthy of a new generation of anglers who, like him, wanted to get out on the water earlier and stay out longer in any weather.
Whether you’re a seasoned guide or a kid taking her first cast from the family dock. Whether your home waters are Tokyo Bay or Bristol Bay. Whether you pull a drift boat or tournament-ready rig, Simms is committed to lowering the barriers that stand between the world’s rivers, lakes and open waters and those who hear their call.
Professional fisheries biologist here. I wear my Freestone waders about 1350 hours per year. With a few aquaseal treatments I can get them to last almost two years. I am super careful about the stocking feet, and treat them with care. They hold up pretty good.
Isn't that like a bunch of American yahoo's, scratching the dessert soil and a ridge no doubt, to disturb one of the most delicate ecosystems, so you can ride your bicycles and create more erosion and damage. Can't you leave a beautiful untouched environment alone? Must you make tracks and leave scares everywhere, so you can yell, Bro this is insane! Yes, it is insane.
New pair g3 with leaks on both legs as soon as I got into the water. Simms only competes with chinese 50 bucks wadder. 100 % marketing and design on accesories. 0% reliability
The G3 is full of seams just like the rest of the models and we already know what happens in the end. I have two G3s and I can attest to this. Not so with my G4, Greystone is not a wader, it is a “bulldozer”.
When they brake, and sadly they will. You should check out Loc Waders, i have used G4 pro for 5 years and they leaked. So i tried Loc which is a Swedish brand that make much stronger waders. I have been useing them in +25 and -10 celcius, never had a problem. They are outstanding, Michael & Young Fly shop do have them and sell them =D
I have been a Simms exclusive user for more than 20 years. The durabiliy and waterproffness declined significantly. Designers are more focused on straps and pockets than on keeping the angler dry.
I came to see any comments like this... curious if I've been alone. I have been a loyal Simms customer since 2018 and it's frustrating at how often my waders are leaking. I've seen a difference just in the past 3 years and it's too bad. I want to support Simms and what they do for our fishing community but my bank account is telling me to look elsewhere.
Same boat. Our whole family was loyal Simms users all growing up. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced many issues with simms, both quality, and customer service based, in recent years. Bought a Patagonia jacket, bag, and waders three years ago, and I’ve never looked back. Rock-solid warranty and customer service so far. The few issues I have had with my Patagonia gear has been resolved within minutes of starting a chat with a customer service rep.
I’m sure I’ll get the corporate response. If I had breasts like my friend Brandy I would have immediately received $2000 worth of simms gear for literally looking pretty in a photoshopped insta pic. I fished with her the week you and Mike brown at mossy’s hooked her up. She’s rotten inside and out. But thanks for caring about your true customers who guide autistic children for free.
@FelixBorenstein I've owned over 50 pair of Simms waders - yes 50 pairs, as I used to own Owen River Lodge. Simms make the best waders - full stop. With genuine Gore-tex any leaks, usually caused by thorny bushes or barbed wire, are easy to spot and repair
I purchased my Guide Classic’s from John over at Madison River Outfitters in January 2022. That summer, they leaked, and I barely used them, as I went on one trip to three rivers, WA for a week. I sent them into Simms for repair for +60.00 I think it was. Two weeks ago, I sent the same pair in from a leak that occurred this past winter, and was given news that the waders are being marked and are in disrepair. My crew and cohort in the PNW invest thousands into the brand including myself. But flushing $500.00 down the drain for a full season’s worth of fishing doesn’t bode well with me and would like some help.

This is frustrating video completely false. Simms sold out or got bought out by big corporate. Now the only focus is on quotas not quality. Unfortunately I know first hand. Had two pairs fail. Simms agreed that they were factory defects and told me they would apply an in store online credit to use towards another pair. ????? Um if its a factory defect why not just send me a new pair of the same G4. And freestones. Come to find out there so call online credit was only for $200.00 each. Dont know if you seen the ridiculous $ of their waders but $200.0 not going to cover it. I literally thought this was a joke. So to sum it up to get replacement it literally took me a year of being a pain in their ass to get a new pair of freestones. And for the G4 all they did is sent them back to me with an explanation the fabric life expectancy is past. So to be honest one went in The trash and the other pair I gave away. So if anyone is looking for recommendations on waders. I would look into drift waders.
Better yet don't bother throw your simes waders in the trash. They are only good for 3 sessions. Simms won't warranty them after 3 sessions. Trust me I know first had.
Note to every fly fisher and hunters that were waders. Go on all the chats and find out how bad the Simms company has become since they sold to big corporate. Price went through the roof, Quality is absolutely terrible, and forget customer service. I had issues with 2 sets of waders. They said one was a factory defect and wanted to only give me a Simms in stone / online credit towards another pair. Of only $200.00 ... Um no know how it works it took me a year to get them to finally send me a new pair. My other pair they sent them back to me saying the life of the material has passed it limits.. 3 years was past their limits for a $700.00 geotex. Waders.????? I called and emailed and finally I just gave up. So would I as of now Patagonia waders have held up and I have heard good reviews on drift waders.
I have done a fair amount of fly fishing for Billfish from the Galapagos to the FADS off the coast of Costa Rica but Mag Bay has been a dream destination since I saw some videos close to 30 years ago. Amazing stripe fishing from everything I have herd
When you have striper in your water, go chase em! I live in CA and I fish for striper way more than bass. If the striper are there, they’ll eat anything! I mean anything! They bit jigs, to senko to drop shot !
Guess it’s only personal experience… I’ve had 3 pairs in the last 8 years or so.. just had one of them warrantied. My orvis on the other hand…. 3 days every single seam.
@@SpeywalkerFlyfishing Guess so. 5 pairs of Simms in two years all leaked in weeks and rubbish customer service. Soles fell off boots in a week. My Orivs Pros been absolutely fine for 3 seasons and still going strong
Thank-you Simms, for continuing to make felt-soled wading boots. After wearing out a pair of both your Rivershed and G3 boots with felt soles (loved them both!) I tried a pair Vapor boots with the Idrogrip soles. They are incredibly slippery, and I would have drowned if not for an inflatable life vest I had on the last time I wore them. Companies can make bold claims about rubber compounds providing similar traction to felt on wet rocks, but they are not even close! Anything this dangerous should be illegal, IMHO. I burned my Vapor's after this incident, because I could not bear to sell / give them to someone knowing how much danger they would be facing.
My favorite line is about anecdotal evidence. Wish more people could see that. Just because you're still catching big stripers and getting into blitzes doesn't mean the population is healthy everywhere!
