It really depends on what you are looking for in location and housing. North towards Leland, you are closer to Wilmington, Wrightsville beach and HWY 40. We have done it, it just depends on the tide and how fast you paddle! The last time I did it I had my daughter with me (so we were a bit slower). It took us about 3 hours, but we took our time!
Don't buy Oak Island. Owned a home here 25 years. Government in this town is a tax, fee, permit, money hungry monster ! Your property is NOT yours, every move you make it controlled by the town government. Citizens forced to pay MILLIONS of dollars for town government mistakes on town installed sewer system put in WRONG by non qualified hired " buddies" ! Had to do, undo and then redo one third of the sewer system put in wrong.Citizens STILL paying for that mistake long after the town has forgotten their mistake and spending more money .Town still buying the best of everything to run the government. Beware of buying property on Oak Island. We are selling , we learned the hard way. Oak Island used to be Wonderful, not a place to buy property !!!!!!
@@jordanontheislands I have been visiting Oak Island since 1978. I shopped at the only provisions store on the island years ago, The Red and White store. The island was a fantastic getaway. Then came the Yankee invasion called Saint Jersey Place. That was the beginning of the end of the "jewel" that was cool Oak Island. Never used to hear any negative comments about the island, now I hear so many people complaining about all of the massive growth and overly intrusive local government . Up and down highway 211 from Supply, has ruined Oak Island. You say you enjoy Oak Island, hang on for a few more years, you will come to hate it. We are selling our home and moving to The Cove Mountain River Community, gated, no traffic, none. Up to 50 acre lots ,rivers, creeks, fantastic mountain views. Can't wait to get there !!
Oak Island has many options for dog friendly rentals. There are rentals all over the island. You can rent a golf cart or a bike for the week. With these you can get almost anywhere on the island.

In the last year on Oak Island new construction sold for an average of $828,980 with an average of 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1,789 sqft.The average price per square foot on 218 NE 55th street is above this average but there is more factors to take into account than the square footage. When it sales, i'll post how much it sales for!
Hello!! I’ll be in Oak Island next week. NE 35th St. between E Oak Island Dr and E Holly Dr. what is best way for us to go to the beach? 😂 looks like I’ll have to walk over to the 29th walkover or walk the other way to 40th St or just drive to Middleton Park and use that to park and walk to beach? We would rather find a quieter non busy area of beach as well 😂
Anywhere around 40th Street is typically busy. If you rent a golf cart or decide to drive you can go down to the West Beach or on the East side, Caswell Beach.
I always wondered how it used to be Long Beach, Yupon, and Caswell but now it wasn't. I grew up coming here as a kid and teenager, then didn't come back until 2020 again. So we quite going around 97, 98. Great video.

@@thomasdill762 - the splash pad might be too young for them! They would like Magic Mountain Slide. If you want a bigger water park there is jungle rapids in Wilmington and everyone loves going to Myrtle Waves Water Park in Myrtle Beach SC. That's an easy day trip!

Sharks do live in the Ocean. I have never personally seen a shark while being at an Oak Island beach. If spotted for being close to shore the Oak Island will fly a purple flag indicating dangerous marine life. Most commonly this means jellies. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR TIDES AND FLAGS BEFORE SWIMMING! "Great white sharks, bull sharks and sand tiger sharks are common off North Carolina, but they rarely get close enough to shore to interact with swimmers. My wife and I had a beach house there from 2015 - 2023. We sold it to but a piece of land on the marsh and are currently building a permanent home. Will hopefully be moved in by October. Can't wait to live there full-time.
