Hi I’m Mina - also known as the Knitting Expat - I started knitting in March 2014 while living in Dubai with my Husband and two cats as a way to keep me occupied while my Husband was away during the week for work, and I’ve barely put the needles down ever since.
In Feb 2015 we moved to Bahrain & due to several factors as well as attempting to get more involved in the online knitting community I decided to start a Podcast! Since then I started designing knitwear items, we have relocated (again) to New York City, & are expecting our first child in Feb 2017.
It has been quite the whirlwind ride since I made the fateful decision to start a podcast and I couldn't be happier with where I am now on my knitting/podcasting journey.
Please get in touch by either leaving me a comment or contacting me via any of the other social media sites I'm on ... would love to hear from you ... and if you have any questions or ideas for the podcast those would also be welcome ...
Hello there Mina, I learned how to knit watching your videos. I was wondering what size needle would be good for baby socks and adult socks. And the right yarn to use for your socks? Thank you

Leyla' cığım, güzel bir genç kız olmuşsun. Böyle güzel kalmak istiyorsan fast-food yerine anneciğinin pişirdiği güzel yemekleri tercih etmelisin.İstanbul' dan Selâmlar.Küçük kardeşini öp bizim için.
Oh it's so hard for kitties to get old. And when did that happen! Nova is a full on walking toddler! She sure like the word NO! :D I love your little weaving projects!
Children of this age are such lovely company. I enjoyed this stage with my girls. Layla has turned into a beautiful and intelligent young lady. You should be very proud. 😊 that was definitely a fun trip!
So sorry to hear the boys' health is doing good. Nova is getting so big! Thank you for the family update! I hope the rest of your summer is a good one!
Welcome back Mina, I have missed you. I love hearing about your life journey, makes me remind me of mine. My husband worked away a lot when my youngest was 2. He would be gone for 5 months at a time, so I know how difficult it is. Looking back now though, 30 years later, you really only remember the good memories ❤❤❤. I look forward to catching up on your new videos 🥳🥳
I'm so sorry to hear about Derek & Hugo. Pet health issues are such a difficult thing to navigate & even when you know you're making the right decision for their quality of life, you still doubt yourself. Lots of well wishes for them & you. I cannot believe Nova is a such little person now & no longer a little baby!!
So sorry to hear about Derek and Hugo! Sending prayers for the both of them. I coulldn't stop laughing at Nova's love of saying No!! I hope you get a break from the heat!! So nice to see you Mina!!
Oh Mina, I'm so sorry about your Derek! ❤ Losing our pets is so hard. My heart is breaking for your family. For what it's worth I think your decision is most kind.
I’ve been watching your podcast for years and have always had an affinity for your two sweet cats. I also have two adult black male cats and they’re so special. My 9 year old cat Vinnie also had lung cancer, found much the same way as Derek’s-incidental finding that we thankfully caught early! I’ve never encountered another cat parent who found their cat’s lung cancer the same way! I opted to do a lung lobectomy and chemotherapy (the biopsy results came back showing aggressive signs) for Vinnie. The surgery was much harder on his body than the chemo was, largely due to how much it limited his mobility while he was healing. Given all of Derek’s other health concerns, it totally sounds like you’re making the best call for him. Just wanted to send some love and light your way as someone who has also navigated this issue with an older adult cat. You’re doing the very best for your sweet guy and he’s lucky to have such attentive care and a loving family. Thanks for sharing so openly and honestly with everyone 💜
Enjoyed Nova and your park and shopping adventures. She is a good kitchen helper. Your weaving looks fun, bet Layla will be excited, seeing your samples. I understand the elder cat issues, i agree with palliative care, Derek uses his leg and has pain controlled, great vet monitor. Where has the years gone. Enjoy rest of summer, I don't like the humidity and heat. Looking forward to fall. Hugs to all. 🙋♀️🇨🇦 From Nova Scotia
I've been watching your podcasts since the beginning, and the boys were always there. I'm sorry they are having issues. I think you are doing the best for them and just loving them and giving them what the vet says to help with pain is the thing to do. Every dog or cat I've had has broke my heart when they went. We love them like our children. Thank you for letting us know about them. I think Nova looks just like her Mom. She is very independent and busy and happy.

Sana, güzel ailene, ve kediciklerine sağlıklı, huzurlu, hidayetli, hayırlı mutlu bir ömür dileriz.İstanbul' dan selâm ve sevgiler güzel yürekli merhametli kız.
Well nice to see you back. I’m sorry to hear about the cats health but sounds like you are doing all you can. Have they tested Hugo’s Thyroid??? Sounds like an over active thyroid to me. Well wasn’t that weaving amazing loved the last one. Xx
👋so so nice to see you again and Nova 😮she is such a big girl now 👏🥰I’m sorry to hear about the cats (I’ve had a couple of cats in my days and lost a couple, I’ve a “5” year old cat now) 😘😜🌹
My cat did the same thing, constantly starving but still loosing weight and it turned out her thyroid was not working correctly, now that she's on thyroid meds she's doing great!
Same thing with my 20 yr old cat. Turned out he had hyperthyroidism. Now that he's on thyroid medication, he has gained weight, and rarely vomits (he tends to gulp too much water all at once). Mina, there are two different thyroid tests...a full blown panel, and then a smaller one. I'm not sure what the difference is, but it was the larger panwl where it was discovered. In any case, I hope all the best for your boys!
Maybe look into burdock root for the kitty arthritis, and black salve for the cancer... I've had success with both of those, though the black salve is super strong so I'd definitely consult with a holistic healer about dosage. Losing pets is so hard to think about, will be keeping you in my prayers if that's OK.
Thank you for the new podcast. I remember how busy life is with a young family, you are doing a great job juggling all your responsibilities. I can't wait for new sock patterns from you, all your patterns are so well written.
Congrats on a successful first vending experience! I’m excited to see your new designs as they come. And I’m definitely sending an email about ordering some of those kits! 😊
Welcome back to you….I have missed you. I have missed you. I miss the family too. I have checked your channel out occasionally. Very nice podcast, come back soon please!
I was just thinking I hadn’t seen you in a bit ~ and then there was your post! Yay! So good to see you making designs again! I just tried to buy the cowl pattern that you designed for Layla, but I couldn’t find it on Raverly. I have 2 little nieces that I would like to make those for! So good to see/hear you ! All the best!! ~ just found it on Pay Hip !! Thanks !
The yarns you dyed have turned out so beautifully!! It was a pleasure to be there with you at your debut show - you absolutely smashed it. Throwing dye around - move over Jackson Pollock haha! So excited for all your new designs. xx
I’m not sure what you mean? Of course there were lots of amazing dyers there but I can’t afford to buy stuff from everyone so I’m not sure what you expected me to do?
Hi Mina, I like your Inside Out hat pattern. I wanted to knit the Musselburgh Hat but the cast on was too hard. The patterns essentially both end up with inside out hats?
I saw the old excitement about knitting in your face!! I look forward to your new designs and your spinning! Who in Scotland dyed the clan yarns? I would love to purchase a skein with my clan’s name on it, would be so fun!
Sorry I meant to include the link it’s The Scottish Yarn Festival - thescottishyarnfestival.com/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaY5FKxtTHU9yqlT9TAb8KkbtRSv21i6Ycukicly2gSLWb0fUfE4BK-uboo_aem_MUKqIzoKmeL7hSuAoB3Ymg
Congratulations on your new adventures and your booth success. I’d like to purchase the sock yarn and your cowl book. Question how much would be shipping to the USA,Maryland?
Always look forward to your knitting adventures. Love your ambition, patience and talent. You've inspired me and I'm a knitter who now wants to learn spinning because of your channel. TY DWade
