Well this brings back some memories. One of my first air shows was at Biggin Hill. I think I was there that year as I recall the infamous Messerschmidt ‘Black 6’ flying. Shame we lost her. I recalled walking right through a Catalina. Those were the days. Cheers for this video.
IT's Redoubt Number 5, and really they were part of the "Georgian" Defences of Devonport - its a pity you spoiled an excellent film with poor research.
It's a brilliant video, I'm stuck working in Wales at the moment but in my 20,s I used to ride my Honda 100cc motorcycle and I did go to St, Germans, in the late 80,s only saw the church.
@@tonylewisvideos hi tony at this point i would have mentioned it was for kates labour campaign and see if thats ok :) anyway we won :) so if your in the division and you need anything a councillor can do give us a shout
@@tonylewisvideos yes but not before i replied , your in the fort we walked through getting out the vote on thursday , well if you need anything a councillor can do give us a shout :)
It was a torpedo testing site and gun battery for coastal defence on the Rame Peninsula, Cornwall. For years now it's been used as an offsite training facility by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
Watching this very fondly from far away Australia .....my parents lived at the Fort in the late 70’s , early 80’s ...I would trek across the globe to this enchanting place for some of the happiest times of my life.....after they passed away, we scattered their ashes on edge of the path leading down from Maker church, in deference to their happy times in this wonderful part of the world. Thank you so much for posting this fabulous footage and allowing me to reminisce .
From far away Australia, it’s lovely to see this beautiful part of the world again, which I visited often when my parents lived in Fort Picklecombe. Fond memories of walking their old boxer dog along the coast path to Cawsand ...thanks for sharing .
I would not be surprised if me and my mates where on the fort we explore it all the time go check out @lortunbom on youtube and watch his exploring abandoned fort video and we explor that fort
I really enjoyed your video, but I wish you had flown over Penlee. When I was aged 12 to 13, in 1946-47, I lived in the army's Fort Penlee, which was near but above the south end of Earl's Drive. My daily trip to school in Saltash started at 7.15 for the 30 minute walk through the woods to Kingsand to catch the school bus at 7.45. Coming home took from 4.00 to 5.45, both ways usually in the dark! (And in winter of 1947 in the snow!) Now I can't even find the fort on Google maps, or any kind of footprint as to where it was located. A nice steady drone video would be very helpful! (Btw G maps shows a "Penlee Battery' but I don't think it's in the right place at all. The fort was very high up at the top of the hill, for the benefit of the heavy coastal artillery, not down on the beach.)
if the fort your speaking of is up on the way to maker at the top its become largely overgrown and full of old dodgems and other rubbish. i hope you find the video you're looking for.
@@sammulkerrin The fort was about 1 km due east of Rame church, along Military Road. Since I wrote a my original comment above, about a year ago, Google maps seem to have been amended and the words "Penlee Battery" now seem to be in more or less the right place. Thank you for your interest.
Great footage. I saw Concorde do a touch and go at Farnborough in 1986 en route to NY from Heathrow with a full complement of passengers. It was just fantastic to see a scheduled flight take part in the show!
Just got off Sun Princess NZ Cruise S118 - ex BNE 30th November. We were lucky enough to have Kelvin Joy as our CD and Frenchie as Asst. CD... together they are awsome! That was my 27th cruise and best CD/Asst. CD duo I have ever experienced. Thanks Princess, Kelvin and Frenchie... made our cruise... :-)
My wife and I cruised with Kelvin on the Crown and also the Sapphire Princess the latter to Alaska 8/28/11. The cruise was fantasic and kelvin just makes it better. He is an outstanding cruise director and a very funny man!
