Many of these Chinese EV companies have bad translations or just very funny sounding names. Even BYD is a strange name - Build Your Dreams. I can’t think of other car companies that have a name that is a phrase. In Chinese I’m not sure if 比亚迪 even has a real direct translation from Chinese or they just used the BYD in Build Your Dreams and gave it Chinese characters to match the sounds, but it is weird in my opinion from an English speaking person’s perspective. It is a marketing ploy, but it sort of falls flat in my opinion. I much prefer when companies just use their native names - I think Xiaopeng is a good name because it is a real Chinese name and doesn’t feel pretentious at all. People look at Xiaopeng and they know it is a Chinese brand with a real Chinese name and feeling.
@@xiaoandmatt BYD is actually a rude word...that's funny, cause when Wang found it, it was just a factory which products batteries and pcb, so the name doesn't matter. And, he tried many names, and all of them are registed, so he was very angry and just cursed the situation..and he successfully registed. However, when they decide to make cars...it's too late XD. Build your dream is just a name they found not so rude.
Beware of these Why.te people in your country... they could be CIA spies, for sure. Ohh.. i am a vlogger, I came here to have some fun.... err... turns out he works for the US Govt. 🤣 , Do not trust anyone from the WEST, especially if they say " I love China", and wear glasses and a hat 🤣
Some brands already have market domination and no one can compete. I expect in 10 years the majority of these Chinese EV brands will be absorbed by the winners or just totally gone without a trace. None of these EV brands in China are profitable besides BYD at the moment.
thats why the government's developing solar and wind power massively nationwide to provide enough juice for all the charging stations. LIke Elon has said, china desert can provide power for the whole world if its covered with solar panels
China is really doing well with all the alternative energy and NEVs. It’s great to be here and get to see it first hand. I will make more videos soon. It’s just so hot here that walking around and filming is insane. I actually went to a mall one day with the intention to film at a NIO store, but by the time I got there my shirt was soaking wet from all the sweat and I knew I shouldn’t sit in any of the cars.
@@xiaoandmatt their price is too high, they have another SUV, also looks great, but need more than $100K, they don't have particularly outstanding advantage to match their price, only looks great, that's not enough.
Very insightful. I'm envious but the Chinese deserve everything they get. They worked hard for all these decades to get this point. The average westerner has little to no idea just how much ahead China is in the EV space alone. Thanks for the vid.
Chinese progress in clean transport technology is awesome. We in the west are being left in the dust, and I cannot imagine how existing US OEMs are going to survive. Stupidly high tariffs might protect them for a few years, but behind their tariff wall they will lose the capacity to innovate, making them even less competitive in the world market. I have long believed that if any nation can solve the dilemmas facing us regarding clean transport and the environment it will be the Chinese. They have taken the best of western technology and made it better. By the way, did anybody notice how quiet those streets seemed to be, given the amount of traffic on them?
I agree with this whole comment. Aside from innovations from Tesla, the Chinese are far and away the most competitive players in the clean energy transition and the US OEMs are going to be screwed.
@@xiaoandmatt Yes. Let travel Vietnam, you will see every where and how quality they are. I'll will take you on a VF hh. BYD opened in VN but I think it hard to sell because there is no charge point for BYD. Tesla is too expensive here 4 times more expensive than in the US or China.
As a Chinese, I usually just watch but don't comment. But your video is respectable because you really put a lot of effort into making it. I'll tell you a fact around me. Many of my friends used to drive BBA (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi), but in the past two years they have switched to buying domestic new energy vehicles, such as Ideal, Xiaopeng, Weilai, Huawei, etc., including me who is driving a BMW now, and I also plan to choose these local brands when I change cars. It is indeed based on the comprehensive experience, nothing else. This was unthinkable a few years ago. I never imagined that I would consider buying a domestic car one day, but the fact is that in recent years, China's local brands are like playing games with a plug-in. The quality and cost performance have grown too fast.
Thanks for commenting! I totally agree that the local brands have come a long way and there is no reason for people to choose some expensive German brand over a local Chinese EV. We may buy an EV in the coming year ourselves and I suggested to my Chinese wife to get a Chinese EV, but she is insisting on a Tesla. We still haven't made the final decision yet, so we will see. It will be interesting to see what the Chinese roads looks like in 5 years. My guess is that the German brands will become more and more rare as the price performance of local EVs make them a no-brainer over an expensive Audi or BMW.
@@xiaoandmatt In fact, my situation is very similar to yours. My wife and I are not completely in agreement on the future car change. She seems to prefer to drive a MINI COOPER. Before, she did not consider domestic cars at all, but after experiencing LI AUTO, her attitude seems to have changed a lot. I think the intelligentization and electrification of cars is bound to be a trend, just like the mobile phone revolution brought by Apple phones, which made the basic function of mobile phones as calls secondary. The future cars will be like this, more like an intelligent robot platform that can carry people and goods, rather than a simple means of transportation. The reason why Chinese brands can rise rapidly is that they have caught up with this era of intelligent revolution. And those traditional leading brands are unwilling to innovate because they are afraid of being surpassed. They are unwilling to give up their comfort zone, but consumers will not agree.
@xiaoandmatt It's because Teslas are like Apple phones: "they just work". Not because she wants something flashy or cutting edge tech. She wants something that has been proven by others over the years to "just work" so she doesn't have to be hassled with going back to the dealer for fixes. Yes the cars are boring but so are Camrys and look how well they sold for 30+ years
