Hey can you say anything about the route you chose? I'm in Milwaukee and my default choice would be to take the most direct route vs. going over towards Seattle like you did.
@@drpayne77 direct makes sense. I went to Seattle to visit family and check out Yellowstone on the way. I also figured BC would be beautiful. I returned to Chicago via San Francisco so definitely don’t take my route as a recommendation. I ended up ticking over 12,000 miles in 6 weeks. Go direct and enjoy the trip with the time you save!
I love this video and have watched it several times. I’m too old now to learn to ride a motorcycle, but if I were younger I’d really want to take this trip.
Thanks for helping to keep my Prudhoe Bay dream alive. I just watched your Awsome vidio again. I just don't want "Later to become too late. " Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
Terrific video Walter, congratulations on such an amazing trip. There's something about far northern, desolate places that is so beautiful and magnetic. Living in southern England we dont have the vast continent you have to explore, but I'll always treasure driving up to the far north of Scotland and seeing a taste of the northern wilderness and looking out north over the ocean toward the arctic. I hope to drive the Dalton highway one day too! Best wishes to you and your family
What a accomplishment, you need to give yourself a big g Pat on the Back. I was glad to see the GS 850 had no problems with it. That’s a Trip you will remember your whole Life, and you can watch the Video when you’re 90 Yrs Old and still be Proud about it. New Subscriber and a Big Salute from Texas.👍👍
I’m getting ready to do this run and I’ve watched several videos trying to educate my self. None of these videos address tire ware and what they did???
I rode the heidenau k60 front for the entire 12,000 miles. The back was pretty squared off by the time I got to anchorage (after deadhorse) so I replaced it. I would have preferred tkc80s for the dalton leg but the heidenaus performed fine and I had decent weather. If it rained I would have preferred the more off-road oriented tire. The heidenau front lasted 20k miles. The rear about 8.
I've watched this video countless times over the years. It's what gave me inspiration and confidence to ride solo to Prudhoe. I leave in 54 days. My trip will take me 8,800 miles and I will also ride the Denali and Richardson Hwys. I look forward to posting back here my success.
There is only one ride by shot and no one around for miles. People respect that everyone up here is trying to survive so not a lot of theft and more solidarity.
Walt, I enjoyed the video. I plan to drive to Prodhue Bay (Deadhorse) in 2023. Based on your experience which is a better months to go there, June or July? My schedule is flexible. Also, how far in advance did you make your reservation for the Aurora hotel? Since I don't know exactly on which day I will get there, I don't plan to make a reservation until I get there. Please let me know if that is a bad idea. Thanks
I went in late june, early july and had good luck with the weather. I think I reserved 4 days in advance with no problem, but better to call them and see what they say. I stayed at the Aurora.
Hello Water - I wrote here 5 years ago, about my dream to go to Deadhorse. Two months ago I was there (on July 11, to be more precise). By chance, I stayed at the same hotel (Aurora). I am now re-watching your video because I miss those places. I rode my motorbike from Calgary, Alberta, to Yellowknife and then West to Alaska and Deadhorse and other places. 25 days, 11,500 km / 7,145 miles, by myself. I raised funds for a Youth Mental Health non-profit during the ride - because I grew up in a country will less possibilities, while I was a teenager; and I changed the name from "On My Way" to "On Our Way", just to make them feel more included. Your video stayed on my mind, from countless that I've seen before leaving. Thank you for doing it and cheers to such an amazing trip.
Walter, just saw this video for the first time I know it’s been many years… I was just wondering what exactly was the motorcycle you used for that trip… i’m 65 years old now and I bought myself a Harley Davison for an early retirement present LOL… I know you will probably never read this but if you do get a chance I would appreciate you letting me know thank you
I used a 2012 BMW F800GS outfitted with a lot of extras. Your Harley can make it as long as you are patient and wait for a good weather window. Happy adventuring!
@@WalterKitunduStudio thank you very much for your reply… on a motorcycle what would the expense be for that trip with all the extras if you don’t mind me asking.. Thank you
I drove it in 1995, then it was washboard gravel with tree's marking deep potholes. Camped at artic circle had a black lab dog named bear. Funny when I called for her to come in the motor home campers ran for cover. Made it to cold foot to refuel up to head back to Fairbanks
No, I’ve since retired from riding. I have a six year old now and riding in chicago felt more like survival than enjoyment. If I move back to the west coast I’ll probably get a bike again.
Just found your channel and this particular video. Excellent. Well made, and entertaining. Thumb up, subscribed and shared. I hope all is well with you in 2022. (PS....my German Sheppard Pup went CRAZY when the sound track in the background of the part where you showed all the mosquitos came on! Apparently it induces "zoomies")
