Dr Crandall operated on me 19 years ago, almost to the day. I was fused from T9-L5 and for the most part I’m doing ok. I had broke my spine in four places and had surgery prior to Crandall operating on me, all in all, I would say it was worth it for what was accomplished. Being that it was almost 20 years ago, it was the best option for me. A lot has changed in medicine over that time, especially regarding spinal surgery. Now a days you have other options and choices rather than just surgery.

My kyphosis has reached the point where my ribs are right at my hip bones. Pain is terrible, but I haven’t found a doctor to operate, but the only reason given is my age my age.and the healing process being so painful. I live about 25 miles from Savannah, and would love the name of a good doctor close to home. I do have a pain specialist who has referred me to a doctor, but he has not responded. I had a fall last year, and have been in great pain ever since.

Its more of a self confidence problem as you might have a poor self image . When you grow and mature it can be less obvious unless its very bad.

Yep, very primitive, same rods and same technology for the last 100 years ! They couldn't come with some new shape rods, new material, new thechnik to avoid fussion in adults. Shame on the today scoliosis doctors !!!!

HELP PLEASE GIVE YOUR INPUT PLEASE. I have the same condition but my neck is angled far downward and way more forward than most people with scheuermans kyphosis and my T1 thru T5 appears to also he wedge shaped preventing the neck from coming back even if my whole ELLIPTICAL T2 thru T10 back curve gets straightened. If i had kyphosis surgery i would need to have my neck brought backwards with surgery also as Well as my T1 thru T6 or so has a side tilt to the left that pulls hard sideways on my neck. So i have 2 hard pulling forces front and to the side of my neck and upper back. That also affects my vagus nerve. My neck curve also has 30 MM of anterior translation. Do they do surgery on T1 thru T5 to bring the neck back if they are wegde shaped? because the surgery on the kyphosis would NOT work to bring the neck back if T1 thru T5 are wedge shaped even if only a few neck ones are.. The pulling on my neck feels like a heavy bowling ball and causes me bad mental and physical symptoms.. Bad brain fog, dissociation, making my brain feel twisted in a hard knot with tremendous ligaments, nerve and muscle tension thru head neck shoulders back and pelvis. Forward head posture makes kyphosis way more disabling than without it.. The reason my neck is angled way farther downwards is because of my posture in school with head down at a desk sleeping and that would make my posture issues worse than MOST PEOPLES KYPHOSIS.. With that.extra hard pulling on the neck!

Thanks for the video. At 52 I have finally been told I have Scheuermann's Kyphosis. My dad is bent halfway over from the same disease and I don't want to end up like him. I will be trying physical therapy first and then when that doesn't work I will be opting for surgery. I figure I will do it 6 month to a year from now and am very nervous. But I look forward to having better posture for sure.

Yes, still working, but what kind of job? What if you work for a moving company? What are the stats of reherniation after discectomy when going back to a job moving heavy, awkward furniture and objects all day and sometimes in tight spaces where it's impossible to use "proper body mechanics?"

When you are told that there is nothing that can be done to help me because I have too many complex medical issues (by your orthopedic surgeon), you lose hope and can fall into a deep depression. My orthopedic doctor was humble enough to tell me in such a compassionate way.... and then, while scribbling on a piece of paper, he said , "You must see a specialist with skilled hands.... go see Dr. Michael Chang! If anyone can help you, it will be him!" My husband and I were sitting in Dr. Chang's office two weeks later and all hope has been restored. I am scheduled for an intensive surgery, fighting to get my life back. Dr. Chang is so knowledgeable in his area of expertise. He is caring and compassionate. He told us like it is, in a matter of fact tone, all the while offering his understanding with what I am experiencing every hour of every day. The staff rocks also! Thank you Dr. Chang for giving me hope again. Let's do this!!

This is not scientific research. If a fusion fails, rods break. There are countless stories of folks with broken instrumentation. I have two broken rods right now.
