A strange synthesis of philosophy video essayists, science communicators, and martial arts RU-vidrs that you never knew you needed. Welcome to the Mobius Chair of martial arts. Welcome... to Armchair Violence.
Wait. So the question is which martial art is better. But the way you answered it, it made it seem like the question was "which type of gym is more likely to create better combatants." Who would in if you had an elite level wrestler VS an elite level Jiu Jitsu practitioner? Put gym culture aside. The ART is what we're talking about here. Also, like many have said here, a very significant amount of self defense situations will not be a lone attacker so grappling wouldnt be an option
I do conditioning, have been at it since years, in gym nobody is able to stand my kicks more than 2-3 times even though i am not hitting with full force. So you should take your bro fake science somwhere else.
Look up Jason Morris, first US judo silver medal olympic champ D1 new york champion in wrestling Winningest new york d1 wrestler in history record something like 160-4 5th place nation champ wrestling d1 division Never threw a single wrestling shot his whole career won every match with sweeps and judo throws Tale as old as mma, crosstraining beats single discipline everytime
I work in a job which requires me to sometimes deal with violent aggressive people. I've found Judo sweeps and trips to be very useful and effective. I also used a full hip throw once to protect myself. Most people, including violent people, are untrained in combat sports. When they grab you they often instinctively try and drive you backwards or twist you down. If your used to Judo style grappling these actions make them vulnerable as they bring their hips in close with a high centre of gravity. I've also found clothing grips to be effective on hoodies, jumpers etc when controlling people. I wouldn't be put off learning Judo in conjunction with boxing etc for those interested in practical skills. All that aside I very much enjoy the channel, hope you keep doing what your doing.
this is such an underrated video bro, if you die then this world would lose SO much high quality knowledge, dont die any time soon bro I still have a lot more to learn from you
As a brown belt In judo and a current bjj and mma coach, I tell my people this constantly. They always want me to teach judo throws. I tell them if I thought they were good, I would teach them.
There’s weight limits and belt based matches for a reason Also, i hear many muay thai fighters say “im equivalent to a bjj xxx belt” when talking of their aptitude I think the belt system should stay even if its no gi
"Armchair Violence" Its obvious you have never actually worked out with a high quality Judoka. 🤪. Maybe thats why your "Armchair'.... You know nothing John Snow.😅
So if the gym also trains boxing and gracie jiu jitsu?? lol Real question is can Krav Maga be effective against an untrained attacker which someone will likely face if being attacked or are we saying Krav Maga is not effective because XYZ martial arts could beat it in a sport?
😆….What would be more accurate to say that wasn’t said in this video is it’s not about “Learning how to Fight” it’s about learning how to preclude or preempt because the fight is not the goal, avoiding being shot is the goal. Taking up MMA training to engage someone with a pistol is like putting on swim trunks to cross a gator den. Here’s a hint boys there are better ways.
MATT THORNTON does a lot of talking about this topic. You should have Matt on your show. People join shit martial arts for these reasons: 1) too lazy to work at the real sports 2) they want something "smarter" than the real sports (usually due to 1 above) 3) ...thats mostly it.
*slow clapping* The idea that LEOs should stop being shepherds and instead become sheepdogs is something I've ranted quietly about for decades now. Glad to see it's finally getting some of the pushback it deserves.
My guy wants to carry cinquedea, gladius and daggers. On a serious note, do you know anything about FMA? The "knives" you listed (falcata, kopis, etc) are closer to short swords. You make good point but i think youre being disingenuous and willfully ignorant of the context of its martial applications.
I love that you bring up swords. Centerline is a big deal with fencing. That might be why the thought was associated with fighting in general and stuck around so long?
"Reality sucks and nobody wants to buy it" yes I read the coment from someone who wanted to start aikido because "orher martial arts are too aggressive"
this mike guy seems to talk a lot about things he did not research, you are a lot more fact based, in fact you are the only one I have ever seen talk facts on these topics
I was playing soccer as a middle schooler and got kicked in the balls when the buff kidd tried to kick the soccer ball but instead kicked my ball. I was literally unable to get off the ground for what felt like 3 to 5 minutes then had to go to the nurse with two kids holding me up.
I like the gi because I'm a history major and I want a bit more authenticity in my martial arts and training no-gi feels more like I'm just doing MMA, which I'm not interested in despite the fact I want to learn multiple styles.
The money part is really a nice detail. I've trained in somewhere similar to a "soviet program" well, I put between quootes because it was a similar govnerment program in Brazil, not in U.S.S.R times. The sensei was paid by the govnerment a fixed ammount, so no matter if he had 3 or 300 students he wouldn't get more or less money, in fact having more students would be even worse for him.
15:10 those punches look like what some of my training partners sometimes do right before I tell them to aim for my head so I can properly practice dodging.
if you actually trained it wouldnt be so hard to get your hand the way you need jt. just sayin. also yeah, you will break your hand on the frontal bone
I do not know whether Keysi Fighting Method is effective or not, but you are no better than them with this video. What would be more appropriate is learning their self defense system and then pressure testing it yourself, instead of claiming it does not work with no supporting evidence. It's these types of practices by martial artists that bring down the practice for everyone. We should all be seeking truth, that involves testing to determine effectiveness. Martial arts would be much better and more well respected if it incorporated the scientific method more than commentary which happens too frequently.
Asymmetric Fighting: using tactics to exploit weaknesses of adversaries only been used in warfare for 300,000 years by every victor of every battle. … but I’m sure this Dweeb has been in a lot fights and is an expert 👍😵💫😵💫😵💫😳
I once called out a martial arts "skeptic"and centrist for working with Grossman and running a seminar in 2020. The free thinker then unfriended me after years of online dialogue because I called Grossman "goofy" on the post where he mentioned the seminar he was collaborating on.
