Trying this recipe with GF flour for my son. My husband was dutch and we always have these for Christimas Breaky and every birthday. We have them with chocalte hail, dutch chese, apple stroop and different meats. usually my son has missed out and had to eat toast. Im excited to see how these turn our. We are in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales Australia.
The first music is " Violino zigano" ( gitano violino ) an italian tango, The second is a napoletan song "Torna a Surriento" . The third isnt a italian song, but american.
Hi Helen. What guid book did you use? Can I do. It with a small dog? How to find hotels? What was the cost? Did you find it spiritual as well? Thank you, Renee
Thank you so much. I'm originally from the Netherlands and have a baby on the way. According to Dutch tradition, at the birth of a baby, you serve 'beschuit met muisjes' (rusks with mice). in this case the mice part are small little sweet sugary balls of two colours, usually blue and white or pink and white, and serve the blue ones for a boy, the pink for a girl. and thanks to this, I can keep the tradition alive.
I will have to try these! My memories of rusks are sitting at the table in my great-grandparents home and my great grandpa showing me how to butter it and sprinkle sugar on top. I can SO clearly remember their home even though they’ve been gone for so long. Buying Dutch rusk in the stores seems pricey these days so I was looking everywhere for a recipe and found you!
Thank you Helen. I also walked from Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela in 2016. Loved every step of the Way but France was my favourite. Spain was beautiful but 'commercialised', catering for the large numbers of pilgrims. You leave home a traveler and return a pilgrim. The Camino never leaves your heart and soul. I returned the following year and did the Portugese Way starting at Lisbon. Not well sign-posted in places but the people - they were truly beautiful; one lady said to me, "We look after you pilgrims like we look after our own children." Bless you Helen.
Hallo Hellen ben me aan het voorbereidden op de camino, en wil ook gaan starten in Le Puy en Valey. Zijn de routes in Frankrijk goed aangegeven, en moet je Frans spreken ?
Hello Sjaak. I live in Australia. I can speak and read Dutch. I can't write it very well. The signs in France are excellent. We never go lost. We speak very little French and we managed very well. You will love it. When will you be starting? Helen.
Helen Van Der Nagel Hallo Helen ben van plan om eind juni te vertrekken. Zie er naar uit. Met al die inspirerende filmpje op youtube. Bedankt voor je reactie 🙏🏼
It's a pleasure Sjaak. We started 1st August and it was the hottest August France has ever experienced. I hope you have good weather. Please let me know how you go.
