Should try some coarse abranet for shaping surfboards.. for getting into tight radii, moving heaps of material without loading like sandpaper… you’ll be pleasantly surprised.. roll it up and you can almost treat it like a Shinto rasp of any size you like👌

I could imagine a person waving that cane around almost like a sword, using the handle as a sort pommel. If you were stuck by one of those blunted spikes, you certainly notice. Perhaps some shillelagh canes were more refined, with whittled down sections for the user to grip them like like club, and others still were made to have a completely smoothed shaft? However, when I think of the quintessential shillelagh, it's this that comes to mind. Simplicity at its best! Simply round off the node of the branch and trim back the thorns even for convenience sake. A wonderful specimen indeed!

In shows in England, they are asking £75 at least, fill you a van, and get over here, you won't end up rich, Guinness not as good but the local bitter is great.

It appears that some battery (or other) powered device might be more effective in rounding the ball. Great video so far though!

I have no access to blackthorn where I live in the USA that I can source sadly, but I found a good piece of black locust that I am seasoning in excitement as we speak. My mothers family stems from county Mayo

Now that’s a stick I’d take to a fight. 😬
