What are some brands that are true dethatchers rather than scarifiers? I’m trying to hire a dethatcher for my buffalo and can’t find a true dethatcher as everything seems to be a scarifier
Matt, great review. I'm on the bosch platform and have had interest in these products for a while. Haven't wanted to jump on it as all the reviews have been on much softer northern hemisphere grass. Looks like it had no problems with the Kikuyu, can't see it struggling too much with established buffalo after seeing that. Particularly with the bigger procore batteries. If there is a good redemption offer I would probably be selling off my stihl blower and trimmer. Good work 👍
Matt, I love the look of four seasons but a 4kg bag for an odd $60 is a tad bit pricey I think when you’ve got 20kg bags of 2Spec etc available for $75ish? Any particular reason for the above average pricing? Thanks. 4kg bag of four seasons works out to $30 dollars ish per 100sqm application..
Unfortunately the pricing is out of my hands. Retailers can charge what they like for it and due to the amount they sell it determines their pricing. I’ve seen it as high as $96 and as low as $32. 4kg bags starts becoming inefficient when you start hitting around 200m2 plus so I recommend getting the equivalent product in 20kg bags from Nuturf if you are looking for same same. Black Label Pro+ Elite is about $99
I can tell you this ego for rough trains does good because my backyard it’s is very rough. Just make sure you take your time and raise your blades when you see rocks.
Matt do you put upward pressure on the handle bars as you mow to keep the mowers front roller firmly on the ground? I seem to find that my Mow Master R26 seems to want to do a wheely and pop the front up, especially when taking off and at times during the mow. Great educational piece you have put together here, if you are ever looking for some more content to produce a how to do more complex mowing patterns would be greatly appreciated. (double doubles and single doubles, diamonds) Keep up the great work it is very much appreciated.
When I used the school H26 I found it was a bit tippy at the start of the line and did some upward pressure. The H26 really took of on you that's for sure - that mower was definitely a workout.
One thing I found to fix this issue was to actually try and push the mower yourself, and only lightly feather the clutch. I have an old Scott Bonnar 45, and I swapped the solid roller for a grooved one. It didn't fix the skating until I adjusted my mowing technique. Another tip if you find it too hard, is to place a couple of bricks (of the same shape) in the catcher. Just make sure you wrap them in something to protect your paint work, and that they are sitting even in the catcher, otherwise the mower will cut lower on one side due to the weight variance.
@haydenspits4740 Probably depends mostly on your budget. Expect anywhere from 2 k to 5 k for a new cylinder mower. Second hand will obviously vary, especially upon condition.
Hi Matt. Great video. Very timely. BTW. What height do you mow the kikuyu now that the weather is warming up? I live in Perth, so our summer is about the same as where you are.
Looking forward to seeing the new sprayer...hopefully something I can afford. In Victoria here my TifTuf is not growing yet, should I be starting my liquid feed now, or wait a bit ?
From one old fat lawn enthusiast to another. You're one burger with the lot away from a heart attack. Hopefully we can get a little bit fitter during the spring time yard work.
Hey mate I live in hallett cove as Ordered the tiftuf and arrived in Friday bcoz of heavy rain here. I couldn’t install the lawn and should be done by tomorrow. Do you think 24 hours if I didn’t lay out the lawn it could damage or it could die?
Certainly a great little routine for buffalo. The next video with the spring day 1 treatment also is the best thing to do to your buff for the start of spring
