I too have an all original 1968 XLCH with only 12K on it! I routinely start it cold or hot with only a couple of kicks. In fact a made a video on it showing how to take the struggle out of Starting a XLCH cold or hot!

Good torque for what they were. I always wanted to put my 350 in a trials frame and go rock climbing

Love the vintage BMWs. Pure functionality that can last many decades. Nothing like this has been made by any other company. I own vintage bikes from Japan and all have their issues.

Mate that old Triumph is a work to be proud of. You obviously remember the times when we had to fabricate bits and pieces and rework one part to suit another just like you have done with the old pre unit TR6. There was no going on line or to a parts book for a lot of parts because not all suppliers could get everything you wanted.

I've had a bunch of these sportsters and I can tell you from experience that they are nearly impossible to start if you are 60 or older . The last one I had a 60 xlch kicked like a mule and ripped my leg open on a shock bolt I suppose . It would only kick back maybe 1 out of 100 times but man it was brutal . Also as bad or worse is when the kicker gears are worn and slip when you are giving it your best and your ankle hits the pavement under full pressure bent totally to the left . I got a 68 XLH with electric start , problem solved .

Little trick to starting these..at least works for me 100% of the time. Cold start: With ignition off, turn choke on, kick twice, dont need to be heavy kicks just enough to turn motor over. Turn ignition on, usually kicks over one kick or two. Warm start, same process just turn choke off when ignition is turned on before kicking.

I wish more BSA and Triumph came with alloy tank.lgot a BSA C-15 250 with a alloy tank.1967 all stock 6,000 miles, and matching#.$500 delivered to my house 🏠. Alloy tanks and stainless steel sheet metal as fenders make the bike last forever ♾️.

Nice work. Keeping my '76 GT500 stock. I'm considering the improved motor mounts though since I'm not a fanatic about maintaining that status. I'd like a smoother ride at high revs. Also the big stock gas tank is IMO a must for this gas hog.

Dougie like another comment do you want a genuine classic or a bitsa? Those of us who own a Velocette or 2 or 3 or more appreciate their origins and the engineering tjat the Goodman family employed

I ride an 1150 with an e2000 by EML myself. A tip from me, that seems to be an EML front swingarm. Like also the rest looks like EML Design. With this type of swingarm, it can happen that the shock absorber springs through to the stop when driving through a pothole. The lower cross bar then hits the front wing very hard. To prevent this, I put in two spring travel limiters from Harley Davidson. In the meantime, there are good battery compressors. I have a Makita one with me because I have Makita battery tools anyway. Its battery is easily enough for a holiday in Iceland.
