Can't say enough about how good this video actually is not only a guide to the Yamaha pa but a guide on How to make music related videos period you never see anybody on RU-vid give a live performance demonstration of the gear, especially on guitar lesson tutorials no one ever has a singer perform a song, I usually have to go to the actual artist video or sound clip to get the whole story but not here amazing video on so many levels

Sometimes I get use my 11 Rack in the studio and I'm digging the delay or verbs. Then I get to mixing time and see the error that I cannot pan the delay and verb across from each other or the signal is too wet or not enough highs on the effect or too much. I myself need to break the habit as it takes the effect out of the hand of the producer and leaves it in the hands of the guitarist. Even on a live stage, the delay from a Lexicon from the house mix will sound better than the guitar players MXR delay pedal on stage. Just my two cents worth.
@LongWaitMusic
@LongWaitMusic 9 лет назад
+Charlie Glasgow Interesting thought :) Why wouldn't you just replicated the signal, EQ it and add a touch of modulation or a very short delay and pan that across the spectrum to create even more depth?
@chazsinger
@chazsinger 9 лет назад
+LongWaitMusic I already have it run in stereo as the 11 Rack prides itself in stereo FX. The issue at hand is I now record most of my tracks in mono and dry so that I might add the FX from my plug ins or my Lexicon. These FX are better in quality and I can roll the top off the FX so they don't overtake the original track. I also record in mono as stereo tracks often get lost and overwhelm other tracks in the same space. Keys on left and guitar on hard right. Solos are up the middle and in the process, I might add a bit of delay or verb on the opposite side of the guitar or B3. I didn't always mix this way, but after listening to the pro mixes, each track is given it's proper space and EQing so as to make room in the mix for the other instruments. Replitcating instruments and panning to the other side can end of up with phase issues in the end. Adding modulation can help solve that issue, but it just seems like more work in the end.

thanks for the upload...i actually prefer the original...but that's just me...i know what you mean about how songs can develop and change over time.but i notice that if I change a song too much from its original concept it starts to lose something that represented the space i was in when i wrote the song to begin with, and i often do multiple versions and end up liking the original better....

It's so pleasing to hear a guitar performance without cracks and clips to which I've been accustomed. No idea why, but latter happen to occur in my recordings so often. Maybe that's a RAM insufficiency.

It's a house! You guys need to tape a concert on stage! I would be more than happy to perform this for you. I mix your material and have live sound experience too. I would welcome the opportunity to record you guys live. Especially if you come near Phoenix! I live Chandler and am CRAZY about your material! I also have mastering connections with a really good engineer in Kentucky in case your interested. I know Bjorgvin does some great studio work but I would like to do the live work and possibly even some studio work from the multi-tracks Bjorgvin creates for a different perspective maybe. Engineering your own band is one thing and having it engineered by a 3rd party really is another. richarddesanti7@gmail.com

Just had a thought after listing again, she's got a Billie Jo Spears type oicxe (Spent my entire childhood madly in love with Billie Jo Spears!) To get round the overloud drum problem, try a couple with just the kick drum in. Try pausing the guitar to give her v oice a chance and bringing in the guitar between phrases (like 'Blanket on the Ground!') or just kick and rimshot (like 'Get Behind Me Satan and Push') which relies on a load of reverb on its acoustic guitar to fill out its backing, which would work live, or violin and guitar unified in reverb (like 'Silver Wings and Golden Rings, always makes me cry that one.). But what unites her style is no snares, it's all kick and rimshots/brushes to keep the drums from being too obtrusive live. Bring the lady's voice a little farther forwards, that's not mixing, that's just turning her mike up, she deserves it. That and more planning/variation in the backing would, IMHO, add a load more quality to the tracks than just strum'n'hope! Well, you'll prob. howl at me for this but that's what I really think. And none of it's really mixing, just turning her up, rimshots instead of snaresand a bit of unifying compression/reverb (Ableton Live, no studio needed!) Give her the showcase she deserves. Chris.

Thery're just all a little TOO samey. I mean, I know a band has to have a style, but each song is dangerously close to being a photocopy of the last, same beat, same rhythm, simiar melody.... Sure I like some of them but I could really do with a little more variety in the tracks, sorry. If you wanna have a bitch back, I'm ulrichburke@hotmail.com and I write New age music which prob. makes me pretty iuseless for judging this kinda stuff cos I'm not into vocals. but I still stand by what I've said here. Yours respectfully - change the beat/instrumentation (you've got a synth and a laptop so you can have any instruments you like going) you've got a girl with a pretty good barroom voice, all you need is a little more variation.

What's the purpose of the small square of cardboard on the snare mic?
@tyruswatson
@tyruswatson 9 лет назад
Steven Braud It's not very scientific, but I have it there to cut down on some of the highs from my hats. Mic placement has a bigger impact on leakage into the snare mic, and I place the butt end towards the hi hat, but this helps as well. Maybe it's all in my head!
@emancia

+Tyrus Watson but it's a 57...doesn't it reject everything around it except for the source it's being directly pointed at?
@tyruswatson
@tyruswatson 9 лет назад
Enrique Mancía Mic placement in regards to taking advantage of pickup pattern will definitely have more of an impact. That rejection only goes so far, especially on the sides. Check out Primacoustics CrashGuard. Or maybe it's all marketing!

How is you using a bunch of hardware in a professional studio beneficial to those of us in home recording environments?
@LongWaitMusic
@LongWaitMusic 9 лет назад
JOSHFROG94 Hey Josh, that's a really good question. So good actually, that I went ahead and wrote a really long blog post about it on my other site: www.audio-issues.com/home-recording-studio/what-going-to-a-professional-studio-can-teach-you-about-home-recording/ Let me know if that answers your question and/if you have any follow up comments. Take care, Björgvin

6:25 You are basically boosting the overtones. ;)
@LongWaitMusic
@LongWaitMusic 9 лет назад
Yep, the upper harmonics. If I were being super anal about I would boost about 650 which is some multiple of E which is the key of the song.
@kjell159
@kjell159 9 лет назад
LongWaitMusic :) Sometimes I also like using an harmonic exciter or sometimes called 'bass enhancer' - when it's meant to be used for the harmonics/overtones of low frequencies - to add some of those frequencies. I actually don't know if using an harmonic exciter is really wise or actually even unnecessary but I like it on bass guitar and sometimes on kick drum. Another trick I use to make snare drums for example more full and powerful is duplicating the track and tuning it a fifth or something around that number (+/-7 semitones) lower. Maybe here it could also be usefull to use a tone in the key of the overall track/song but when it comes to percussive instruments I never really bothered about which notes 'supplement' with which frequencies.

Nice Song and production. I am fairly new to audio production but have been a musician for many years and I'd like to offer some comments if I may. In the chorus maybe you can have the guitars just play on the downbeat when it comes to the part where you sing "like no other" to make it clear that you're not saying "above the water". I read somewhere that if you want to make your vocals clear and concise, you can use EQ to control any instruments in the background. If you notice at the end when you're singing the chorus sans instruments it's very clear what you're singing. So again, maybe try to EQ the guitars just play only the downbeat in that section and measure of the chorus to see if that helps. Another suggestion might be to double the Chorus to maybe even make it more clear what your singing as well as give it some pop (maybe try and add a maximizer plugin). Otherwise, it is a very good song and very well recorded. Peace.
