Good morning. Respectfully, I sincerely want to know the answer to this! When Christ died on the cross, the thick veil in the Holy of Holies was torn in two, giving access to that Holy Place! To me, this says we can go to G-d ourselves, without the need for a priest to mediate for us. Jesus mediated our salvation and He intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father… I cannot yet reconcile the need to confess to a priest. I want to return to the CC, but this is a sticking point for me. Could you please help me understand?

You know where these statements originate from? Christians. People who don’t understand that they claim to know something based on an unsupported conclusion drawn from a presupposition. So how do Christians deal with atheists? They simply try to get them to believe in magic, because that’s what convinced them of God. Christians are not interested in evidence because they didn’t become believers based on any evidence; and since there is no evidence for God or Jesus they just ignore this area and focus on the spiritual circus that they have joined. And to top it off, they can’t understand why non-believers ask logical questions-questions that no Christian can ever adequately answer. It’s no wonder that Christians make these statements. They also seem to have magical empirical information about what an atheist thinks, does, and feels. They also pretend to know our past, as well as our future. Christians, if God was real-it would be evident. You wouldn’t have to have massive campaigns to get people to believe in things that are not there. See what mental gymnastics you have to perform? See what apologists have to go through: conducting 3 hour debates where they just preach and have philosophical sword-fights only to end without proving God anymore than before they started. Would you use these methods to convince someone of the existence of the sun? No-you would point out the OBVIOUS evidence, you can’t do this with your god. Your lack of knowledge and understanding IS NOT evidence for a god. Bottom line: it isn’t about how you say something, or your presentation, or word games, or playing 20 questions-it’s about whether you have evidence for God, evidence that can be examined, that can demonstrate God to be real. And, just saying that there is evidence AND then not presenting it doesn’t work and is disingenuous. Remember: the atheist is NOT the problem-your lack of evidence is.
Why does the priest who listens to the sinner’s sins during confessional ask for a donation in exchange for expiation? Why does the priest sometimes ask for double the donation in exchange for the sinner being able to have a future sin forgiven or expiated? Just last week there was a story in Utah of a 26 year old admitting to murdering an elderly couple and stealing their credit cards during a confessional. The Priest during confessional asked for a $1,000 donation by credit card in exchange for forgiving the sin of murder & theft. Isn’t this an abuse of a confessional? During the confessional the priest asked for an additional $1,000 just in case the sinner wanted to repeat the crime with a second victim. 5464

I am Catholic and atheist and will continue to be both Catholic and atheist until I am excommunicated. Official excommunication of me by name by the Catholic is the only proof I will accept.
As a catholic I can say, most of the time its the nuns out riding thrill rides. For people that dont know that is no joke. Nuns are very wild when they want to have fun. They ride thrill rides and all that.
