@@AlexanderUnit-731 lol that makes no sense since they used her real married name, the people who made the newsreel screwed up. They also called her the Duchess of Cornwall when she would have been the Princess of Wales.
The meltdown at TMI wasn't known until much later after the event had occurred and even then it was only 1.2%, the meltdown was triggered when the operators at the plant were overwhelmed with conflicting data and acted according to their training, it was human error that caused it, not technology, Lennon wasn't assassinated, he was shot by a manic fan, no chance he would have survived his injuries in any timeline, at least make your show believable!

One thing puzzles me about the Space Shuttle. Why did they still go for the external tank and SRB method of launching when in this alternative timeline they would have had the funding to build the original, crewed, reusable liquid-fueled booster?
because the boosters despite what people think were recovered and recycled. the space shuttle program was super expensive because of the reusability aspects. its cheaper and quicker to build the boosters then recover then and reuse them which takes a lot of time and money to make sure they can be used again. the sea dragons were projected to be incredibly cheaper since the booster was made out of cheap materials that when the booster burned up or was left as space junk one could easily and cheaply build a new big dumb booster at sea
@@toomanyaccounts The point I`m trying to make though was that the External Tank and SRB configuration wasn`t the original design but was adopted later as a cost-saving measure during development. The original concept was to have a carrier vehicle with a crew consisting mainly of fuel tanks that were fully reusable and could glide back to the launch site after the Orbiter separated. In this alternate timeline, the funding to develop the carrier vehicle would presumably have been available. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d0_WL0z4--g.html It's interesting that some later versions of this configuration show an Orbiter similar to what we are familiar with with the booster evolving somewhat.
@@AbelMcTalisker it was ditched not only for cost saving but if something went wrong the crew would be killed. it would be more risk of personal for little gain. there is also the issue of weight. a manned booster wouldn't enable the space shuttle to have more cargo since more fuel would be require to have the crewed booster land back on Earth versus fall into the ocean. so there were reasons besides cost saving that the manned booster got dropped.
That was the budget limitation for season 2 and the showrunner went with sets that are recognisable and cheaper to use. The nuclear-powered Pathfinder shuttle likely ate some of that part of the budget as well.
I’m honestly curious how the world will look in season 4. Based on their progress, I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing smart phones in the mid90s. Also interesting to see how cars will look. Will it look modern like ours or have a retro future style like back to the future 2 or blade runner? Can’t wait for season 4
Season 4 intro, Trump still becomes President...as a Democrat. Melania never met Donald, seen in pictures swinging from a pole with huge grin on her face then shown owning chain of strip clubs and brothels.
I was surprised by the genuine lack of wokeness in the series, a few hints here and there of a few issues of the times but no woke garbage.. surprisingly refreshing. As a famous man (apparently racist now) once said: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"
Anyon who uses "woke" unironically is a joke. I'm suprised you're not screaming "woke" over women astronauts and nonwhite main characters, that's usually all it takes for the "waaah woke" crowd to go off.
Dude it's woke as hell, it touches on; race, gender, immigration, sexuality, american war crimes, ect, and that's just season one. by four they've added police brutality and labor unions.
@@danielbar5646 this series addresses the social upheavals in such a smart way. I could watch it with my Trump supporting mom and she followed it well and was unoffended by it. I think this series has adjusted my worldview and perspective, that's a rare feat.
They made lot of events to prevent colapse of USRR: - no "Solidarity" movement i Poland, Wałęsa arrested - pope John Paul II killed - no Afghan war - market reforms (like in China in our time line) Etc.
Yep, the timeline only really diverges when the Soviets land on the Moon first in June '69. Star Trek: TOS predates that by about three years. In fact, it already wrapped up its third season by the time of the lunar landing.
@Quinzerrak well they didn't have a vietnam and the moon minerals kept them afloat. they state they have a hybrid economy. a lot of people don't realize is that the soviet union economy was in the toilet for a number of years with their bureaucrats falsifying reports that in a capitalist society would get exposed.
@quinzerrak4975 Yes i remember these "stagnant 5-year plans" which made USSR the superpower in 10 years, caused economic wonders of 1930's and 1960's, and made the USSR the 1-st economy of Europe and 2-nd economy of the world.
@quinzerrak4975 Quality of the Soviet products was very high due to socialist competition and due to characteristics-oriented mass production which ignores the color of the package and without overprized private owner's interest. Soviet microwaves and refrigerators from 1970's and 80's are still working today. Soviet prefab apartment blocks provided millions of people with free housing, free schools and free kindergartens. Something that capitalist Russia didn't have. Planned economy in theory and in practice made Russia a superpower. In the conditions of the military invasion from 14 capitalist countries in 1920's, in the conditions of economic blockade and political non-recognition of 1930's - only planned economy saved us. Russia had 100 mln poor and ineffective individual farmers who would never afford themselves a tractor. But united under central management in Kolkhoz (collective cooperative farms) and Sovkhoz (state-corporate farms) they have become a big one inner consumer for heavy industry, boosting our economy and launching it into space.
@quinzerrak4975 *But I have heard, especially from conservatives, that the USSR was still behind in technology and that they only got to space because of international competition which is a trait of capitalism rather than socialism* - I can't imagine any owner of the means of production (aka capitalist) to seek any competition. Every capitalist wants monopoly and a minister chair. If capitalism was a competitive society, then it would consist of a smale-scale individual craftsmen instead of mass-production industrial giants supported by financial monopolies. *Not to mention, what about the economic calculation problem Ludwig Von Mises talked about?* - I personally don't see any problem. Even capitalists themselves are not engaged in any calculation process. In capitalism everything is done by mercenaries who work for wage (aka proletariat of all levels) - they count money, they manage, they distribute, they trade, they analyze, they advise, they design, they build and they produce. Communism is about the fact that in the modern world there is no need for a capitalist who only owns property that can easily be managed by public. - I think the modern computing power is able to calculate the number of screws and nuts that the industry needs daily. Especially since a socialist society does not require 100 types of beer bottles, but only 5 types. It does not require consumer goods and cars with unique parts, everything fits together and is interchangeable, which greatly simplifies planning on a national scale.
The fact that the Soviet-Afghan War never happens in this series is going to change quite a lot of events throughout the rest of the series. The first change is that Afghanistan's Communist Government could collapse earlier than it did and the Muijahadeen would never have formed. This in turn would not give us organizations such as Al Qaeda, or the Taliban, making the 9/11 terrorist attacks wouldn't be possible. The USSR would still collapse, but it would take longer than it did in our timeline. Perhaps the State Treaty would still be signed creating the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics, but we will never know.
@@felox1715until in 2003, a communist hardliner coup topples the Perestroika government reestablishing the totalitarian state with a planned-based economy, which may be the reason for the future civil war and collapse of the Soviet Union in the late 2000s or in the early 2010s
1973 Daoud Khan coup led to Saur Coup in 1978 ,Before 1973, the Kingdom of Afghanistan and the Republic of Afghanistan had closer relationships with Soviet include sending officers training to USSR and Soviet Investment in Afghanistan. Afghans need dealing problem themselves on tribe issue. Therefore, tribesmen revolted in 1944-1947.
@@felox1715 Again, I wrote this from a Pragmatic Standpoint what would actually happen if this went down in our timeline. I knew what the story would actually go with.
With the USSR pulling out of Afghanistan, the Mujahideen are never back by the west and maybe that leads to a more stable Afghanistan and Middle East. So maybe al-Qaeda and Bin Laden never gain a foothold to plan 9/11.
For ALL mankind season 3: (1989-1995) .the berlin wall collapses, meanwhile Germany remains separated, due to the rise of the extreme right in western Germany; . The communist world undergoes transformations due to the need to modify its structures, the reforms dynamize the states without weakening them, in the ussr, secretary Gorbachev manages to put his project into practice successfully, as well as, the union resists nationalism, giving you as alge the yeltsin prison, and others linked to the west CIA; . in the western world, capitalism enters into crisis, as a result of neoliberal reforms that increase unemployment and deepen inequalities, in response, states use coercion; in the US, President Bush militarizes the police and President Clinton intensifies war policy; . the bipolar world, us vs ussr, begins to disappear with the rise of new powers, a multipolar world begins to form, with China, Yugoslavia, India and Brazil gaining ground, highlighting China and its space program; . in 1994 the USSR once again surpasses the US with the landing on Mars, a result of the Salyut and Buran project, however the US slows down its space program due to the crisis; . Fearing losing the US's hemonic position, President Clinton strengthens NATO and creates a new military alliance in the east, the Pacific Treaty, and brings Israel into NATO, as well as entrusts NASA with funding for the project to surpass the soviet landing on Mars, the first starship.
I doubt Gorbachev will be in power giving that Andropov are still alive and heallthy (IRL he died because of declining health after he get sick by smallpox in Afghanistan after invasion). After all he was chosen by party to lead because of his young age, not pertically because how influenced he was. But there is a good part in that - most of his policies Gorbachev took from Andropov ideas. Perhaps we still would see something like Perestroika and Glasnost' but slower and with less confrontation from old hardliners giving that Andropov was respected by everyone and had more political power as former head of KGB.
@@Ocelot835 Congratulations you are a prophet. In Season 3 the Soviet Union economy is on hyperdrive thanks to a slower version of perestroika, to the point it influenced more countries to become Communist.
I've got a feeling that the Three Mile Island meltdown being averted by tech from Jamestown maybe hints that the Chernobyl disaster will be avoided the same way. So no Chernobyl + no Soviet invasion of Afghanistan + arresting the leaders of Solidarity = Soviet Union lasting way longer than it did in our timeline?
"...Solidarity supporters arrested in Gdansk..." Poor Poland. Guess FMAK timeline means there is no loosening of the leash toward glasnost/peristroika.
I wouldn't be so sure. In this timeline Andropov is healthy and still leader of USSR so he definetly will imply some reforms that would spread to other socialist countries. After all he was one of the main influencer of Deng Xiaoping reforms in China, patron of Gorbachev rise into power and on of the few people 2ho promote much younger politicians into Politburo.
@@Ocelot835 Andropov...the REFORMER???? The former head of the KGB? The guy they put in because they thought Brezhnev's detente stuff didn't work???? The guy whose menu of dissident repression included a choice to send people to insane asylums until they went mad???
@@MM22966 Yep. Maybe not what West expected but he was figure that tried IRL to push reforms. He was the man who promoted Gorbachev and other young politicians from rural regions into Politburo, started several legal cases against coruption inside party, even made some economic reforms before his death that inspired Deng Xiaoping to push more drastic political changes in China. Andropov wasn't fanatical in establishing complete democracy like Gorbachev, but he had tendencies for liberalization of Soviet society. Just not as fast and harsh his protegee tried, after all he was not an idealistic idiot.

@@MentalParadox because solar don't work at night and the solar panel effectiveness is like 20% at best and the panels degrade over time. plus creating solar panels creates toxic waste including radioactive lakes as well as the disposal aspects of them being toxic waste
Yes. Absolutely. The only reason she's called the Duchess of Cornwall in our timeline is out of respect to Diana. This change irritates me a little bit, though. Like, yeah, Reagan winning in '76 and Chernobyl not melting down and other foreign policy changing all make sense given what happens with the space program. But I fail to see how the new Cold War timeline would make the royal family change their determination to have Charles marry a virgin.
They also used Camilla’s married name of Bowles in the headline instead of her maiden name Shand. If Charles was not prevented from marrying Camilla she wouldn’t have married Bowles first
Unless this is a joke, Columbia is by definition a nickname for the Americas, North and South, Colombia just took upon the name because for a time it had been one of the largest countries in the Americas until its decline, the United States almost actually took the name before falling closely with just the United Colonies and later the United States.
Yes. I love this series so much because it shows us that possibility, had the global investment in STEM continued due to competition with USSR. This is all the stuff we as GenX were promised in the 1970s and 1980s as kids and, while a moon base is happening very soon, finally, it's happening a lifetime later than everyone had hoped. I'm also no fan of Reagan, but this newsreel gives me so much comfort somehow. I watch it over and over.
Skip to the end to get to the point. In this timeline... Y2K Bug infects computers worldwide Al Gore won the 2000 election On 9/11, United 93 reached its target Saddam Hussein escaped the 2003 invasion MySpace instead of Facebook Osama Bin Laden was never killed 2011 Arab Spring is successful beyond just Tunisia (ie. Hmm, I wonder if all the bad outcomes are worth it to prevent that one major event in 2019
It's sad that the youngest demographic that will understand the significance of these events is Generation X; gen Y and the millennials don't know and don't care.
The Soviets not invading afghan? Camila being welcomed by the crown! You don’t have to be past it to know the significants of those two events alone! Let alone 3 mile island! As a 20 year old, I do know, and do very much care, I am happy that every reference, even if I don’t get it, is in there, as it just makes the show more authentic and more nostalgic for a time none of us sadly got the chance to live through, older or younger.
I see you believe a rather annoying stereotype, it really isn't the case though! Just because you see lot's of poor examples online doesn't mean it's true for the rest. I don't judge older people for the idiots who make them look bad online, and you shouldn't either.
