Another solid video, Bro. Just straight to the point with everything! We released a portable air pump. Can we invite you to do a review? If so, how can we connect with you?
Heya mate, most of them I do, after making sure there aren’t any issues with them etc. I still see the odd one driving around every so often, which is kind of cool, cheers
My car has a problem. In the morning, it never starts late in the morning, but when I drive for half an hour or more and then stop for five minutes and then come to start it, it starts very late. I don’t know what is the issue?waiting for😢 u to help me!!!
Hey mate, swap out your engine temperature sensor and see if that clears it up, I’ve heard of the sensor being out of spec but not throwing a code, good luck!
Hey Mr Rasputin, I see you deal with alot of Commodores and wondered if you would be able to give me some insight into an issue I have with my VE Commodore (EX Cop car) which is suffering from P0017 (Camshaft Position Sensor) issue. Is this something that is common that you have come across? Are you in the Wellington region as well? would be interested in getting this issue sorted. It seems there's differing reports from around the internet where it's a timing chain, but also it could just be the sensor. The car doesn't suffer from common issues you'd find from a stretched timing chain so there's an assumption it's the sensor itself. If you have better insight, that'd be awesome. Thanks heaps
Hey mate, it is kind of common, though more common on the earlier 08,09 non-SIDI engines. However, if your car is 2010 onwards, your engine could still suffer from it. This code is triggered when the angle of the camshaft is out of sync from the crankshaft, or, at least where the ECU thinks it should be. A really good mechanic can tell you for sure by scoping the crank and camshaft sensor outputs and comparing them. Unfortunately its usually a stretched timing chain, which isn't the end of the world eh, totally doable in your driveway with a bit of patience (like, allow a couple of days if its your first one) and a few tools and some big confidence. If you are confident its the sensor, sweet as, I reckon go to pick a part and grab one of off of a wreck and see if that clears the message. It may only cost you like $30 and it may just fix it. If you are still unsure, take it in for some diagnostics. I'm based in Auckland, sorry man
@@cadesparkes955unfortunately I don’t have any evoke spare trim without the holes. I have used filler to fill them in, then razor blade the excess off in the past then a silver pen to colour the filler. Wreckers have loads of evoke trim as most people are after the sv6 stuff
@@cadesparkes955it did have all four, but one was cracked. I ended up swapping the set for some decent tyres for the sv6 black edition rims I had. Cheers
I managed to half fix it, but I don’t think the reliability would have been there, so managed to score a replacement from someone that had wrecked a G6E.
Hey mate, is that on how to reconnect the steering controls on an ex-cop car? I have a set of instructions I can send you, just email me sweetrasputin22@gmail.com
21:03 for your safety don't use bricks for holding weight - I realize you've got them as backup to the main weight bearer but I'm mentioning this on principal. Brick can give way, and it'll just spontaneously shatter. Wood is better, as counter intuitive as it seems, though it does need to be layered up appropriately (crossways etc). Think of this comment as general knowledge, also for the viewers. Amazing video, tonnes of skill on display.
Fair call mate, thanks for the reminder, and you’re absolutely right about using bricks, regardless of whether it’s a safety or not, I should been using wooden blocks, I’ll do better in future builds. Cheers for the positive feedback too mate, I appreciate it for sure!
If it needs 3 times to start, I’d look at the air filter and also look at using a maf cleaner to clean your maf sensor, see if that improves things. If you’ve done quite a few kms, consider changing out your spark plugs. Good luck
Holy heck. The title was not deceiving at all. This was a total restoration 😅😮 …. How you learnt all this skill and knowledge is mind blowing to me. Huge respect ✊ to you. 😮😮
Hey, thanks for the big compliment mate, I really appreciate it! I think once you start pulling things a part and putting them back together, it gets easier eh. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, more to come man!
Unfortunately it was beat around a bit, but, all it takes is a bit of work to reverse it all eh… I couldent treat a car badly eh, it’s not in me lol cheers mate
Great job on turning around the evoke, my complaint is that the repair work done to the roof, a bit of silastic and a cap. What a bodge !!!! i would have least filled in the holes and repainted the roof, your so called repair would only degrade your good work and if that car cameon the market for sale and seeing that type of repair, i would give that car a miss and look else ware.
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback. The silastic was just a precaution, as the “cap” was actually a blind grommet or, a solid body plug, which is designed for exactly the repair I used it for. There is no chance of it coming out or leaking. I know some people use filler on these holes, which I would regard as a far worse repair. At the end of the day, is it pretty? Possibly not, but does it do the job of permanently sealing the hole? That’s a big yes. I think the only 100% method is welding, light filler and a repaint. Cheers mate
Mine is showing about .322 ohms on the bottom of the relay integration. Which obviously means it's not good. I was just wondering how you knew it had to be between 100 and 300? Just curious.
I compared a good one to a bad one to get a comparison. Each coil of each relay should measure out roughly the same, is what I had found, so you’re looking for an outlier. Cheers
I respect what you’re doing with holdens but just a suggestion, what about a Vx or VZ wagon because they’re getting hard to find in average to tidy condition, anyway love your work and keep fixing Holdens brother 👍
Heya mate, that’s odd, I reply to all comments, I’ll check on that….the transmission had a slight delay when engaging drive, plus, I wanted to use the full sv6 drivetrain I had salvaged which used the 3.6 lfx over the 3.0 lfw engine. Cheers mate
@@nonrasputin9260 Sorry must be my bad. I mostly use snartube to watch RU-vid videos so maybe I just couldn't see them or something. Bloody good work. I'd love to be able to do the awesome work you do. Just had another spinal surgery. Been going on for years. But watching stuff like you do keeps me entertained. Again awesome work. Cheers from Dunedin mate!
@@nonrasputin9260 Sorry might have been my bad. I use smartube to watch RU-vid so I may not have seen replies. Anyways awesome work. I've recently had spinal surgery and this crap had been going on for years. So thanks for the entertainment of stuff I wish I could do. Cheers from Dunedin
Great comprehensive restoration on the commo.. first time viewer love the vid, have subscribed. Seems to be a few people still rocking the hold'on's in NZ. Cheers from AUS.
Definitely still a strong following for these cars, especially since the brand closed doors eh. Thanks for the feedback, appreciated!, and, much appreciated for the sub mate!
@@nonrasputin9260 yeah it was Holden's time to close up shop. The modem market is swamped with "fuel efficient cars/cutting edge tech/electric/hybrid etc... and let's be fair Holden for the last 25 years holden has been basically the same old brick with a fresh coat of paint with nothing new to offer really. Not to say it wasn't a sad time in Australian automotive history when the last car rolled out.
No man, I dident eh. I was too scared of putting one in and later finding out it was a dud… ugh! I’ve heard that some people do the thermostat with the engine still in, that’s hardcore!
I know man, it would have been pretty decent at one stage eh…. I don’t know how it happens though, I can’t comprehend it… hey, thanks for subbing, much appreciated!
Total shame, I really like these cars, the steering/suspension and handling are amazing, coupled with a decent interior and loads of features. Get one while you can mate, even 2nd, they are a great car! Cheers
Did you check the oil level before start the commodore? When cars get repossessed, and in the condition this one is in, maintenance was probably not a priority…
Oh for sure, I’ve heard of people sabotaging their cars if they knew they were going back also… fluids were fine, definitely overdue an oil change though. I knew I would be swapping the engine out though, so, less of a concern eh. Cheers mate!
how the hell did water got into the diff, thats impossible unless the diff has a breather line, its sealed on both ends and the diff is sealed, plus the transmission as well, you cant get water into the diff, more like someone put water into it? Other than washing it all out and depending on if sewage water got inside the car you will never get the smell out of the seats full stop. Then you have to buy a good wrecked FGX and swap over almost everything, so much work for what to sell it with such a small margin its not funny your only going to make money on it if you do all the work yourself which you did other than aspects of thing others have to do which you have to pay for anyway, so more cost?🦘🦘✌✌
Heya mate, there is a breather tube on top of the diff, and one on the transmission also, which is how the water got in. After stripping it out, washing, rinsing with clean water, including seats etc, then drying out completely, there was no detectable smell at all. I needed very little in terms of parts to swap in, so in the end, it worked out ok. I did it mainly for the challenge, and I’m stoked it got to the point that it was back on the road and road worthy. There were things I couldent do, like, program a bcm or code in the speedo, but was lucky that the knowledge was out there to help. Not for the faint hearted! 😂 Cheers mate!
@@nonrasputin9260 mate you have done a fantastic job fixing it up, just imagine how much it would have cost if a repair place for all the different items would have charged you saved so much its not funny, maybe at least 5K all up, as you know they would be saying all new oem parts no less, new diff and transmission and then electrical parts as well. They are selling for over 31K with 186K kms in NZ, keep up the great work mate. 👌👌🦘🦘
@@7071t6 Mate, it would have cost a bundle, that is, if they would even take it on! Ford NZ stonewalled me and wouldent sell me any parts as their "policy" in and around water damaged vehicles. The FGX is a great looking machine and it did seem like a shame that it was heading for the scrapheap.... Thanks for the feedback mate, I really appreciate it, more car content on the way!
@@7071t6 I do keep them, until I sell them.... I only have limited space, so, some stay for ages, some stay for a short time, either way, for ones I sell, I drive them for weeks/months to make sure my fixes are complete and good for the next person. Cheers
This one here was probably as bad as it gets being fully submerged. If I were to do it again, I’d probably get a donor crashed car and transfer all wiring/electronics etc as those are the things that will fail over time. Other than that, totally possible, if I can do it, anyone can!
Thanks mate! And thanks for the tip! I usually wear rubber gloves but on this occasion I must have been too keen to get into it and forgot, can never be too careful eh! Cheers mate
