I was on my senior class trip in 1967 in New York City and I think the hotel may have been called Abbey Victoria. I would love to see it again. When you walked in there was a round light blue couch. We were on the 24th floor
A modern glass structure would at least be a striking contrast between the old and the new, enhancing the beauty of the old whilst showing the advancements of the new. This is just a pastiche that has identity issues. It is horrible. You cannot faithfully recreate the old. I love both the old and the new but the two should never be mixed to create whatever this is. IMO.
Well here we go. It was gonna get built by SOMEONE. Thank heavens we got something with a sense of beauty because sure as hell no modernist is ever going to attempt beauty.
A lesson on how to knacker the setting of a beautiful church with some poor pastiche justified by an architect’s nonsense. How does this towering edifice possibly make the neighbourhood “a better version of itself”?
@@miketackabery7521 You miss my point. The bulk, scale and massing is entirely inappropriate in its context, and no style of facade treatment can alter that.

What an monstrosity...this cookie-cutter house sticks out like a sore thumb amidst its surroundings. It practically yells, "I was manufactured solely for an architect's vision," with no regard for the neighborhood's charm or character.
What really compliments the house design, its the garden. It really balances out the squareness and darkness of the exterior. THe house in itself is lovely, it gives the appearance of privacy from the outside and brightness on the inside. The dynamics and consistency throughout the house and the exterior. Lovely effort by the architects.
Everything old is new again. This home reminds me strongly of a beachcomber design that was popular during the 1960s and 1970s. It doesn’t remind me at all of camping. A direct line of sight from the front to the back of a home is considered poor feng shui because with nothing to slow or redirect it, chi will rush straight from the front door out the back. This allows the energy, which might bring luck or money, to leave your home without circulating and bestowing its benefits. I think it lacks imagination.
Butterfly style roofs are terrible as they require constant maintenance to keep debris out of the gutter. Im in engineering and have seen a lot of failures ( collapses) due to poor maintenance. Why would you paint hallways black?...thats great for working with the light and the Australian heat!
I reluctantly sold a property in regional Victoria that was so dear to my heart, it shared some of this vision and qualities of the wonderful property showcased here. The only consolation I have is to know that one day I can draw inspiration from homes like this and build a similar retreat somewhere special. Great story, thank you.
Thats all good and well with it being open to nature but what do you do about the bugs and mozzies getting in and being attracted to lights and so on ..... if l want to eat my dinner with the mozzies l would just go camping.
