The Biggs Museum of American Art is dedicated to promoting an understanding and appreciation of the fine and decorative arts of Delaware, the Mid-Atlantic Region and the Nation from 1700 to the present. The museum presents a broad range of exhibitions and public programs, actively interprets and cares for its collections, serves as an education resource to the community, and maintains strong ties with artists in the region.
Thanks for the historical, sociological approach to this school’s development. I had never thought about the East Coast railroads increasing the northeast’s urbanization and the painters preserving idyllic pastoral scenes.

Interesting lecture about a topic I've hardly thought about before. I remember being in various art museums in Italy in 1967, and feeling frustrated by the lack of good lighting, compared with American museums, even back then. And now we usually enjoy great lighting in museums; it makes the whole experience so much better. At the Museum of the American Revolution, they use lighting to make everything come alive. Alison K.
