Honestly that just wasnt true tbh, the only Reason Aegon even became king is because the hightowers had been conspiring to put him there and still more than half the realm supports rhaenyra anyways and the only houses that support Aegon are those that have direct affiliation with the hightowers (the hightower house themselves and the lannisters) or those that were offered a better deal by them than what rhaenyra offered (Baratheon)
Its clear that Alicent was plotting against Rhanerya and her father. SMH Rhanerya should of pulled an Queen alyasane move and found matches for her brothers to her allies 😂. GRRM doesn't write political mechanics well i wish the show just went in their own direction.
The Hightowers always wanted to get in line for the succession of the King title. Accepting this decision would have meant that the inheritance line would stay within Raenyra effectively destroying all Hightower ambitions to become legitimate kings. It was a power move and Alicant declined not because of relationsship issues but because it would foil all her fathers plans.

There have only been 2 actors to play villains, who have changed my perception of them. My introduction to Paddy, was the priest he portrayed in Peaky Blinders. And I hated that character, he did a remarkable job at making me hate that character. When I heard he was going to be playing this role here, I thought I would hate House of the Dragon because of it. But he played this role marvelously and changed my perspective.
Yeah no, this wouldn’t have solved anything considering that jace is a bastard. Marrying her to him would give team black a valuable political hostage not to mention ruin helaena’s reputation
