The Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus) is a large flamingo native to much of the old world, it is the largest of the six extant flamingo species and the only flamingo species native to Europe and also one of the few flamingo species tolerate the colder habitats, it is also the only extant species of the genus Phoenicocolor and its closest living relative is the Lesser Flamingo (Phoeniconaias minor), there are six known subspecies of greater flamingo: the European Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus roseus), the Northwest African Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus barbarus), the Northeast African Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus aegyptiacus), the South African Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus zambesiensis), the West Asian Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus caucasicus), and the Indian Greater Flamingo (Phoenicocolor roseus indicus).

@@NavneetVirkPhotography birdwatching always create joy...couple of days earlier I found grey plover which is rare sight in rajasthan and yesterday I saw six different shrikes on two adjacent tree...red-backed, bay-backed, isabelline, long tailed, great grey and brown shrike....this is one of the beauty of birdwatching
