I'm a bassist. I feel so sad because im just 24 and never got to know barry. Luckily a lot of his classes are avialble on youtube. I like how he complimented and liked that octave bass lick on Nascimento 1:29:48 very cliché those times but must be good because Barry licked it!
hard to listen to anyone, even a genius, who denigrates Miles Davis. At its core, jazz is about breaking out of convention, pushing boundaries, etc. Ironic for a man who says he is jazz to be uncomfortable with modal jazz because it doesn’t conform.
I remember Dennis telling his dad, Uncle Ernie, saying , John Coltrane was crazy. I offered wondered but Dennis had only said, his dad said without any explanation that John was crazy but I only started to believe John was ahead of his generation. And if any one was crazy, it was those who did not follow jazz or understand him forward.
I'm at 16:56 minutes and so far all I hear is a bitter, resentful, conceded old man complaining likely because he was broke and couldn't sell records and concert tickets as well as those he resents so much. This old man takes himself and his music way too seriously...
Great tenor player! I love players who are making choices as they play. They are in control of the environment and they create within that and stay with what they can find that works. Great band!
La compositora de esa canción es la cubana Concha Valdés Miranda, la cual es ya fallecida y muy amiga de Dyango. Otras canciones de ella , compuesta varias décadas atrás son: La que más te ha querido y Tápate conmigo. Son ejemplos de canciones muy atrevidas para su época donde la vulgaridad está ausente.
