Thanks for the video. Could you tell me what kind of weight you use, and how far from the egg you place it?
@anglermade
@anglermade 2 месяца назад
Yes, I will typically try it behind a weighted leech or bead headed fly in shallow runs on creeks and rivers. an early spring on lakes I will fish gravel beds close to the shore with no weight underneath a strike indicator.

Interesting tying,and I think that dabbing yours is not Simi-seal -Canadian Olive only, looks like least three or more dubbing’s mixed in one.
@anglermade

I’ll have to double check . I’ve noticed different brands of simi bo-seal look a little different.

4 snails stay at the bottom so the 5th fly can come on top so the 2 flies can connect to it So the flat playpus can go free? 😂

Would it not be better to tie on some carved foam to build up and then resin?
@anglermade
@anglermade Год назад
I've tried it that way and it didn't seem to be as durable. However, maybe I should try a different type of foam. Good suggestion, thank you!

That's a stupid looking dams will fly pattern Don't people understand that pattern should be somewhat the same size as the real thing they should actually be slender like the real thing and the thing that sets the dams will fly apart from every other bug in the water is the way it travels when it gets across the water and that thing is not going to look like any of the above that I've mentioned
@anglermade
@anglermade Год назад
Hmmm, well, it catches fish. Maybe I'll change the name to the Filthy Fat Damsel. :)

I have made many similar flies I make up all my tails up ahead of time when I’m not tying. I use silicone, a drill, a embroidery needle in appropriate sizes. I use either fidbits, or a new paint brush I tear apart for tailing. I have used moose mane also. I then in a neat turn of the drill with the meddle locked in the jaws, apply the silicone. Then I place the tails in and follow up with dubbing the body. I remove them and place on wax paper to dry. The silicone has floatation. I make my wings using mallard feathers. I attach everything similar to your method. I like your foam idea to increase visibility. The floatation of the silicone tail and dry fly preps keeps the fly up, but with your foam idea, my flys will float high and dry all day.
@anglermade
@anglermade Год назад
Hi Ed, Thank you for this. I’m very intrigued by your technique on making tails. Have you by chance ever made a video on how you do this? I would be very interested in watching your technique.
