Greetings yes, my name is Dakota Lovern, I am 19 and film trains, photograph trains, work on trains, operate trains...any of that landing? My videos are all things trains. Most of my content is narrated, but it is quite freelanced, kind of just putting together the best I can from the things I do and see. Don't expect any consistent video upload schedule, cause life is crazy, even at my age. So if you like trains or...me, or something, go ahead and subscribe, cause I'd like it. You may find it equally pleasing.
Hey, I’m currently making a video on the Mosaic Plant City facility. I’ve shot my own videos there, but I want videos from some time ago like the ones you have, for a segment of the video. I was hoping I could use some of your videos. I’ll give you credit, and I only intend on using the raw videos, none of the commentary. If I could I’d really appreciate it, thanks.
My grandparents lived in Oak Ridge as I was growing up back in the late 90s to early 2000's. I could ride my bike down to an old radio station and watch trains run behind there. There was also a tunnel between Elza gate and Dossett yard that my grandpa and I would walk to. The tunnel was very close to his house. It would be the normal to hear probably 30 or more trains a day, mostly coal trains to the Bull Run plant. We would spend hours at the plant watching trains come in. They also still had the spur line that went into Oak Ridge. Unfortunately as you said in the video Bull Run has been shutdown now and I usually am only passing through Oak Ridge now but still take about an hour to hope to see a train. Although I haven't been lucky the past few times I've been through I still hold out hope. A few months ago went down to the Edgemore signals just to walk around and remember the good times. And found me two pieces of coal as a keepsake. Of course my grandparents are gone now but the memories of growing up in the summer there I'll always cherish. Great video. Thanks.
As a kid I raised money for the inland lakes railroad to try and save this engine (and that railroad) via hot chocolate. It was my introduction to my passion for the rails. I was sure this engine had been made into coke cans by now, so incredible to see old 8330 still running the Florida rails. I’m older now and would love to volunteer my time to keep this piece of history alive for as long as possible. So surreal. I would almost consider this engine to be one of my first friends.
I love that story. I too grew up around this engine, as I did at the museum as a whole. Now that I too am older, I’ve had the fortune of being a part of the small team that has put her back together. I’m sure she’d love to see you again, as would we. Come take a ride with us sometime soon - she’s running regularly on the weekend trains for the time being, as she hasn’t had any major issues since.
I live near Ocala now. I have not been able to go out and do some railfanning yet. This was awesome and thank you for the exposure to my local railfan location to check out!!!
It's always amazed me how that place has gone from nothing to what they have now. If I could turn back time, I'd love to stop that from taking hold of my once good community. Just like all the housing, the " so-called museum " is in infection like a cancer to Parrish. Pat may as well just get his way and change all the names he wants.
So 8330 once belonged to Nash County RR. So, she worked in my home town of Rocky Mount NC, at one point, I never knew that until now. Glad you guys got the ol' girl back in service. Maybe one day, I'll get down there and meet you in person and take a ride 🙂👍
Cartersville here, and I must say it's nice for the old State Road getting some recognition!! I wish you'd at least shown a bit more of our sub, it was a great video! Im a new railfan and would love to find out how/where to meet other area railfans. Come back when you can stay longer and stay safe out there!!
Thank you sir! You’ll have to check out another one I made recently when I was up there this past February. “CSX coal train runs backwards” or something like that. It doesn’t cover Cartersville much either, but it is from the same territory. I may find myself back up there again sometime close to Halloween, we’ll see what happens.
Didn’t even think about that. Though, technically, she never had a 645 motor. Her original 567 simply had its piston liners replaced for 645 liners. The horsepower output was thereby increased, so they changed the designation to a 645-E, though technically still a 567 shell.
Congratulations Dakota I’m glad the 8330 is back up and running after being sidelined for a few years maybe when I come to visit the Florida railroad museum I’ll get to see the 8330 in person and who knows I may also get to see you again. Keep up the good work dude and see you out there soon on the sunshine state rails👍
I don’t, no. I do believe it came from a full body F7 type build, but I can’t confirm or deny that. It does seem it sat for quite some time before the museum got it, so that doesn’t make it easier.
This is not just the story of a mechanical restoration; it is a love story between some special men and a great old machine. Thanks so much for making the public aware of it, Dakota. I'm glad to see you're still at the museum. I was afraid you'd been ash-canned for some reason. (But, forgive me; I always assume the worst.........) Thanks again.
Nope, we’re still kicking. In fact, we’re Maintenance of way foreman now…imagine that. As such, plus just a difficulty to avoid comments from our board when I do, I’ve abstained a bit from making museum videos. Some will come up here and there, but it won’t be as heavy of a focus as I initially intended. Big events like this, though, will certainly get a posting. You’re absolutely right about the story part… this was one of the locomotives that I grew up with. It is still crazy to me to think that when it went out of service, I was still in middle school. Now, I’m one of the people operating it. As some would say, exciting shit.
@@kotabeaner Absolutely! And, personally, I think if your board was on top, they'd take advantage of your talents to promote the museum through these RU-vid videos. Granted, they might want to audit them before they were broadcast, but aside from some tweaks, they'd be great publicity. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid retired executive...........
You’re absolutely right, just isn’t worth it in my opinion with what I’ve dealt with…can’t really get into it here, but as I said there will still be some, just few and far between is all. I ain’t going anywhere!
Nice to see it back and running again finally. From the many times you told me that it was a work in progress getting done. It’s awesome that it’s finally done and rolling again. Bet this is a very special for u bro. Nice work!
Yeah man…it almost doesn’t feel real. Or maybe it’s just hard for me to feel things since I work so much. Who knows. Either way, miss you brother. We need to get together again soon.
Very good job with this video. The messages went by a little to fast and I had to pause or go back, but otherwise very well done. Also congrats to the museum for returning the 8330 to service
@kotabeaner BRO I GOT BIG NEWS! CN 3115 IS COMING SOUTH DOWN TO TAMPA ON TRAIN B241! IT WAS SPOTTED IN PEACHTREE, GA ABOUT AN HPUR AND A HALF AGO! IF YOU GET THE CHANCE, IT WILL BE A GREAT CATCH!
She’s a wonder to run. Loads very well and handles trains just as well. I’m extremely impressed to see where we are now, so there’s nothing else to do but keep it up my friend…
#8330 is back online. A spare 567-C saved this locomotive's excursion career. The 645E though can be found on static display in Willow. WB #8330. You guys had some skills to repair #8330 and it's ready to pull trains for the Florida Railroad Museum once more. WB #8330.
Thank you sir! Couldn’t agree more with you. Like I’ve told others, the 8330 has quite a few operational perks that but it a touch above the other locomotives me regularly use. Worth it, absolutely.
@@kotabeaner You're very welcome. One of these weekends, once the temps come down a little, we're going to take a drive down and hop a ride on good ole 8330! It's been almost a year...we're due.
Thank You! It’s a shame that entire tourist stretch is gone now. Orlando Northwestern ran passenger on the same routes for a few years after Inland Lakes, but they’ve since gone under as well.
@@kotabeaner I rode that one too, and the Tavares Eustis & Gulf. Woulda worked for them as an employee if they hadn't closed a month before my 16th birthday.
its nice to see 8330 back in operation, but i have a question, does the Jeddo Coal Co. 0-4-0 still operate? i rode behind it years ago, so i wanted to ask.
It's truly amazing when something seems almost completely "dead and buried" then gets a chance at another go 'round. Glad things are going well. Had a similar happening at Whitewater Valley this year with resurrection of Armco Steel 709, a Lima-Hamilton 1,000 horse switcher so can appreciate the experince! By the way your musical accompanyment selection is absolutely "spot on"!!
You can say that again. I have a number of videos saved on my devices from years back that I took for myself, stating in them that her days of operation were “A time gone by”. Oh, what I’d do to put a word in to that 2021 self of mine. Wonder what he’d say now. I’m proud to say that I had a part in this restoration, though I owe it to the contributions of our volunteers and other staff. A common goal leads often to a common result.
Amazing video, it's awesome to see all the work and effort put into this historical unit. It was great seeing her last Saturday and huge thank you to you Dakota for letting me and my friend Dalton get up close and get shots of the 8330 running again at the FRRM. Was a great experience. Keep up the good work man
Not a problem, I’m glad I could help y’all out. Thank you very much for the tip! It will be proceeds to the museum. Feel free to give me a shout, if ever y’all plan to come around again - I’ll make sure you get what you need.
Couldn’t agree more. Never minding the nostalgic factor, the 8330 has quite a few operational perks above our other locomotives that make operation much smoother and enjoyable.
What a spectacle video and restoration, y'all did a great job bringing this legend back to life! I was lucky enough to be one of the folks both chasing and riding on Sunday, getting a chance to see her run with my own eyes left me speechless. Here's to many more great year's with this old gal! On a side note, what horn was 8330 wearing this weekend, it sounded great!
It’s most certainly been a team effort. Our volunteers on the weekend are the lifeblood that allow us employees to keep things running. Glad you were able to get a peek at it, we’re just happy that all went well. That horn was my Raised Letter Nathan K5HA - I plan to leave it on there unless otherwise necessary. I agree, it fits her quite well.
Dude, it’s such a freaking pleasure to be the guy you call first for this kinda stuff. Everything from the shots, to the horn, to the history behind this locomotive is special, and being able to document that is a gift. Keep on brother, it’ll smooth out🤝
Well…maybe it’s because you’re one of the few who can actually share relation to at least a small piece of that significance. Though, there’s much more than that - I’d say it here but I think I’m still on zero strikes so I’ll bite my tongue again. Thank you equally for doing it all justice with your intricate documentations.
