Thank you for Time and effort posting this precious gem and so many others. After this rendition there is no point in listening to any other version. Black mass it is supposed to be and that is what it is. Horowitz offers many définitive performances but Skriabin is even more special. Think, he met Skriabin, Skriabin Heard him play, that leaves an impression on a young pianist. Skriabin it seems had a prémonition of horrors to come, lucky to have died before 1917 in a way.
He was never a strong technician, not by todays standards anyway, but he always played with heart and enthusiam which almost made up for his technical shortcomings.
I love how he plays it but honestly there’s nothing that can make a performance the best performance, but I think other pianists that for example play it slower and melancholy are as good
I alsodont lidten for "mistakes". To play it is only possible with passion. It alsp taxes tje hand span, if you dont have a large hand. I kmow- i have played it. Ibhad to look it up. Its been going around in my mind. Cant find the mudic. But it will be one of the piecrd i eill play in the next Ugust fiexta
She is just amazing. I love her interpretation and exquisite technique. I especially appreciate the choice of no ritardando at the end, which some pianists do in this piece. This way is so much more exciting, full throttle to the end.
It's a beautiful piece! I'm playing it right now and when I chose this piece... it seemed hard... but after 4-5 days it turned into an easy piece. I'm auditioning this video and I love it! ❤ Thanks for doing this video!!!! 😊
Came here when reading Douglas Smith's 'Rasputin', where he briefly mentions the composer's occult life and how he, the composer, thought he was God and even tried to walk on Lake Leman. According to the book, Scriabin thought his Sonata No. 6 had been corrupted by evil forces and refused to play it in public. After trying to exorcise devils through his Sonata No. 7, he composed Sonata No. 9, also known as 'Black Mass', which "refers to the devil, to sadism and to necrophilia". Maybe that's why we can "see" so much "darkness" in here. Brilliant!
