NFL is very difficult to make it in for rugby players. Firstly every role is so specialist. There are players who never handle the ball. That is not the case in rugby where every player has to know how to handle the ball. Although Rugby has specialist roles what they are called on to do is a lot broader than in American football. Many players will be able to punt the ball in rugby whereas in football thats a designated role. Im surprised that NFL doesn't exploit the lateral pass more and a rugby coach could help them in that area.
I just can't see how the B level athletes in Rugby could ever tackle someone like Barry Sanders or Derrick Henry. Good luck going for Henry's upper body.
If these rugby guys are as good as they say they are… why aren’t they reaching for the bag in the NFL? They could all be getting paid 6 times more by putting on the pads.
Hate that football is interrupted every 3 minutes for a commercial I used to love the sport even played a little but football has become more of a money making method tbh no fun is really had in football its all buy this buy that for your fav team
Both sports produce extremely high level athletes. I have had countless debates with Americans who feel compelled to think NFL has the most superior athletes in the world. Which I don’t agree with because they literally train for power, explosiveness and short bursts of speed because the game stops every other minute or in 30 seconds. Rugby players go for 40 minutes straight. No little breaks, to breath or drink Gatorade.
I always find it hilarious how people who've never played American football or are Rugby fans think that it's just safe because you have a helmet and pads on.
What people don’t understand is that when you have a helmet and padding you feel like you can take more hits and dish out mor hits. That’s why injury’s and concussions are more prevalent in American football.
I keep seeing a lot of comments on here about NFL players wear pads. I've played with and without pads. Playing with pads makes it way more dangerous the hits are way more vicious and it takes the fear factor out. Turns people into human missiles. Plus going across the middle is one of the most dangerous things a player can do in pads. Ask AB how that's been going for him.
Meh it's like comparing punching a wall with gloves on vs bare knuckle. The hits are harder in NFL since players can push the limit on how hard they are willing to hit. Reason being why they have so many concussions and lot of times have to retire early. I'm a newer fan to rugby and really like the game, but the attitude amongst non north Americans that NFL players are soft is ridiculous and overplayed.
How do I put this... NFL has pads... Rugby doesn't. Gridirons conditioning would be that of a marshmallow and Rugby is the Muay Thai of "Ball Sports". Please don't speak of Rugby League or Union, if you haven't played. I've played Gridiron and rugby and I can say running for 80minutes, without pads, is a lot harder than a down, huddle and having WHOLE ANOTHER TEAM defend for you. Talk about a lazy and slow as fuck game lol I used to play OLB and would get 21 tackles in a 60 minute playing 2 halves, no quarters. I'd do that in a game of rugby in the first 10minutes, all the while playing both offence and defence and special teams. Please don't compare Gridiron to Rugby. There's just nothing to compare, Gridiron is soft. Look at Jordan Mailata from my hometown of Bankstown, drafted by The eagles and has signed a 4 year deal for 64mill as starting LT. Only thing difficult about Gridiron, are all the plays, tapes and schemes you have to study, but if a random kid from Australia "who has never played a down of football in his life" before his debut game, and already told he's the likes of Jason peters and Tra Thomas 🤯 85 percent of my time playing Gridiron I studied like Sun Tzu and Master Yodas apprentice and had to watch our offence play like shit from the bench, everygame🤦🏽♂️ Gridiron is easy, thats why it is not an Olympic sport or even has its own World Cup(although I wish it did). USA can't win a Basketball match to save there lives 🤷🏽♂️ I doubt they'd want to get embarrassed in "Americas Game"🤣
Well in order for Gridiron to have a world tournament, more countries need to develop their own leagues which they have started in Europe and to lesser degree in Asia. I don't see the USA being beat in Gridiron for at least another 20 years. In Rugby, all the good national teams are former commonwealth countries like New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa etc.
Football ( or called soccer in America) was invented first. Then they started to play play with their hands and initially called association at first. Then they shortened association to just socc and to soccer. 👍
NFL,big guys in ladies tights running around for 30 second plays then have to have a rest off the pitch....what a joke compared to the real men of rugby
Rugby is awesome. But you should try playing football before making a judgment on it. I know most of you foreigners hate the US and that automatically makes y'all have a negative opinion on football. But it's not a bad game once you learn the rules. Yes very slow sometimes and boring. But just playing it with friends the park or street is super fun.
The reality is that those who play American football are not smart enough and do not have the technique to know how to tackle without breaking their heads...For this reason wear helmets
A lot more skill is involved in the NFL. There is a reason why that ex NFL player, is over there because he got cut. No one will take him so he resulted to this. No one will catch a ball against Jalen Ramsey nor stop a catch from either Hill or D Hop. The NFL and Rugby can be described by the NBA and the WNBA. Both are high level sports but one has a lot more skill.
Physically they are capable obviously, it's just a matter of Learning the skills. Which is something very hard to master since like any sport it requires years and years of practice.
I really don’t know much about either Rugby or NFL but one question ..after reading the entire comment section I found out that Rugby is more admired and loved sport rather than NFL so how on earth NFL revenue is 10 times bigger than rugby
I've watched some of an American football game and was surprised that it stops and starts so often, up until then I thought it was pretty much just rugby with armour. To me it looked like an hour of lining up and crashing into the opposite line. Need to watch a full game at some point but it's not the best first impression. Too much on/off play.
