I'm your guide, a data engineering veteran with over 20 years in the trenches. From massive corporations to medium-sized businesses, I've seen it all. And guess what? I'm here to share the hard-won knowledge that will launch YOUR data engineering career into the stratosphere.
Imagine this: wielding the power of data like a Jedi Knight, wrangling information into insights that illuminate the path to success. That's the magic of data engineering, and I'm here to show you exactly how to make it happen.
So, whether you're a coding whiz kid or just starting your data exploration, let's unlock your potential and turn you into a data rockstar!
It is ok. I'd probably rank it 6 out of 10 as far as ETL tools. I'd definitely rank AWS Glue and Synapse/ADF above it. One of it's redeeming qualities is that it does have native streaming data ingestion capabilities. The down sides are that it is a bit more siloed in comparison to the other Orchestration tools. For example you have to create one object for your mapping, one for a mapping task to run the mapping, then a task flow to run the mapping task. Also, if you work heavily with APIs, I would pick one of the other tools, the API integration here is very clucky still in comparison to the other tools such as BOOMI and the Azure tools.
@@GambillDataEngineering I do have one question. I'm transitioning from a non-data career to data analytics with the hope of eventually transitioning into data engineering once I have some experience under my belt. Would you add/change anything about this list for someone wanting to get into data who does not have a bachelor's degree?
I didn't have my degrees until I had been doing it for about 10 years. So no worries. I'd follow the path you outlined and look for some projects that interest you that you can learn with. Hit me up on either email or another social and I'm happy to help you along the way!
@sathishraj1 I do like databricks and delta lake. I need to double check costs. Both can escalate quickly with the scaling. There's some cost management that has to go on either way. I like databricks for the spark and parallelism.
So I had one video that got 32k impressions early on, but only 147 views. I'm honestly not sure why it got so many impressions?!?! The ctr for that one was only 0.3%.
Huge watch hour increase on you long form this week nice work. Totally agree with you batch creating your content is a game changer. I didn't get a chance to before going away but luckily my mother in law lent me her sewing room to film in while we visited haha. Are you enjoying shorts or long form better? Excited to see how you go this week.
Hi! I have a favor to ask. I've been learning data analytics skills like sql, power bi and excel for the past 5 months and I have a couple of questions that can only be answered by a experienced professional/ someone in the field. Can you help me? won't take too much time, 4-5 questions max. Please tell me a way to contact you personally.
Absolutely. Feel free to shoot me your questions via facebook messenger @gambilldataengineering or to my business email at chris.gambill@gambilldataengineering.com
I'd be happy to provide a personalized roadmap. Feel free to reach out via email at chris.gambill@gambilldataengineering.com and share some details about your current skills.
Ah, the pleasure is all mine, sir! Next Sunday we will cover Dimensions and SCDs (Slowly Changing Dimensions) Then we will get into the actual modeling! :)
Fellow obsesive stats checker here 🙋♀️ I like where you have out your into and about you. Could you do a video on all the tools and software you use please?
Nice job buddy! love your captions! And I will check out Munch too. Does it cost anything? I now use Davinci Resolve, Capcut and Canva. Keep up the good work.. Your channel is growing.. Slowly but surely.
I'm an apple user so I use Imovie and also Canva. Advice on your thumbnails. Make yourself bigger, Use the same fonts and colours in each thumbnail aswell to create brand consistency. This way when your videos show up in the RU-vid feed people will be able to recognise you fast. Hoestly I liked the premade thumbnails as they were brighter and eye catching. Maybe try to use some of the ideas from those thumbnails into your personality for you channel. I might have missed it but you introduced yourself right at the end of the video. I would move that (you and what your channel is about) to closer to the beginning.
Omg. Thank you so much for sharing! I'll definitely make my thumbnails brighter, make myself bigger and be more consistent. I've been playing around with the thumbnails to figure out what works best so definitely not consistent. I also need to make sure I'm introducing myself earlier, I had watched something telling me to try to get my hook in the first 10-15 seconds so I was moving my intro to later in the video... def feels better to do it early on though! :)
Please share your video editor suggestions below! Also if you want to see my Imposter Syndrome episode watch that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wWmrcZwzRZM.html
