Sam Cooke has been very high on my list of great singers since my childhood. However, something here doesn't quite fit. This strikes me as a gospel flavored rendition of this song, because, at the core, that is what Sam was, a gospel singer and this inclination showed up so many times, when he ventured out into different vistas of song. Anything Sam sang sounded good, as this does, but is it a jazz vocal? It doesn't strike me that way and I prefer this song done with a jazz feeling.
In my solitude you haunt me With memories of days gone by In my solitude you taunt me With memories that never die I sit in my chair, I feel despair No one can be so sad With gloom everywhere I sit and I stare I know that I'll soon go mad In my solitude I pray Dear Lord above send back my love
