Is this device still functioning today as it should for you, any issues since your install? Also do you know why the device needs batteries when it is plugged into a wall?
Great video. If I don’t need the thermostat reader, can I use this unit without needing a power outlet? Or do you need the power supply for the remote? I’m looking for a unit that doesn’t require a power outlet. Which model should I get?
Great video, I get the idea of using a millivolt gas valve and thermopile, am about to purchase a gas log set and burner and perhaps by using the millivolt gas valve can connect a millivolt thermostat to regulate room temperature in winter, great idea, thanks for showing.
I recently installed the kit to replace the one in my 20 year old Majestic vented natural gas insert. I was impressed by how easy it was to install and how quickly it lit. The remote control was easy to use, but the instructions were lacking. Everything worked fine for 4 days, but then stopped working. The remote system beeped, but the ignitor didn't try to light. I tried to contact their customer support, but couldn't find a phone number, or website, so I returned it. I don't know how they can be in business without having some sort of technical support available.
Thx for post. Were you concerned at all about the endpoints overheating, or the wires leading to the endpoints overheating and damaging the burner unit?
Been a while. What are the electrical characteristics ? When you shorted the two wires, power was coming from somewhere -- where ? Otherwise, excellent how-to.
Hey! The only power source would be coming from the thermocouple, which generates milliamps from the heat source. The other wires are purely to run to a switch, no power needed.
@@FormationCreation I shorted the wires, and nothing happened. The receiver supplied with the log set/gas valve had a place for four AA batteries and a hook up for an external battery pack with another four D-cells. All that power would suggest the receiver is powering the main gas valve ?
I do not like this thermostat because the batteries are always going dead. I cannot find a good video on how to hook up a wall thermostat without batteries.
It depends, he is showing a millivolt gas valve and must use a millivolt compatible thermostat to use with batteries or 24volt transformer, there are hard wire or plug in transformers, good luck.
I had an “electrician” come by to switch my gas fireplace wall switch with an outlet switch combo and I guess he fried my millivolt system and possibly whore board , is there a way to check which thing he destroyed? Lol
He may be the nicest guy but this is NOT the video to use to install gas logs. There are other videos. Check out those that are for your make an model of gas logs. Our are Monessen. They have great videos!
I hate to have to bring this up. But how anyone in good conscious could leave this video up, is beyond me. We're working with explosive gas here. Previous comments have pointed to the potential problems, years ago. sigh
Never use a torch to light a pilot with thermocouple or thermopile,if there is air in the gas piping you could preheat the thermocouple and allow main burner gas to flow.Someone not familiar with the operation of a gas control valve could get flash burned.

ATTENTION: EVERYONE!! DO NOT follow any of these suggestions!! No way! I'm sure he's nice. I'm sure he's just trying to help but this is very unsafe. The plumber's putty as a gas pipe sealant is terribly dangerous. Don't put any sealant on flared fittings. Lastly, it was done carelessly. One needs to take this installation much more seriously. An experienced technician that could do this blindfolded would have treated this with much more care and attention to detail. Please know I'm not trying to be ugly about this. I'm trying to let folks know there are safer ways to go about this project. Please do your homework.
Bells started going off immediately. Are you sure you want to install your manual cut-off valve BEHIND THE BURNER? Also, using crescent wrench backwards, which is why it slipped off, rounding off your brass ferrules.
Go to Dollar Tree and buy plastic skulls. Cut a hole in the skulls and fill them with mortar mix for fireplaces. Let sit for three or four days and cut them out of the plastic skull. They will need to cure for a few more days. I made ten a few weeks ago for just over $20. I'm making ten more this weekend. It's too easy. You can also use a roll of paper towels as a wick and saturate it with kerosene. If you cover the skulls with hand sanitizer fire will dance over the skulls.
@Skykiller - Don't they need to have some kind of a hollow space in them? Have you used yours? Do you have a gas firepit, or gas? Does one bag make 10 skulls? Has anyone bought them from you? I guess I'll have to wait til next year to get the plastic skulls, since Halloween is over..dangit!
April Manttari-See I got 8 or 9 plastic skulls for around $10. I used mirror mix for fire places. I made four batches of skulls. Several bags of mix. I arranged mine in a circle and stacked them three skulls high. I put a roll of toilet paper in the center and soaked it in kerosene. The roll acted as a wick and it burned for about two hours. I didn’t take pictures but it looked very cool. Next year I’m going to get a “bag of bones” from Walmart and try to make several other bones. I think I may have spent $30 altogether. Just experiment and have fun with it.

i have a Lennox FP with gas valve is an model no.082067 can In use it with a wall switch or does that take a specific valve. I want to use a regular wall switch if possible
@DarthAzrel - I think rich people don't like to get filthy, that's why they have GAS firepits, so they don't have to work at it! And ~$1000 for 15 skulls (as in the video)...?! Aw HELL naw! I think I'll make my own & try my luck with an "authentic" fire (non-gas).
