hi Dani, I love your You Tube videos, so great to see your processes (and struggles)! can you let me know where you source your newspaper print backgrounds from? Are they subject to copy write issues? thanks :)
Hi, some of the text backgrounds I made myself, writing a chunk of text either made up or from something in the public domain and then adding texture. But some come from unsplash which have all kinds of royalty free images, many of which are free.
This is so refreshing, Dani... no one seems to talk about this! I hate my brain!! I have always loved drawing. I always come back to it, but more recently, ive taken it more seriously.. except I can't. I have so many "styles" i like, love, want to achieve, that i can't see MINE... what is mine? Who knows.. lol Not only that, I try to dabble in other art. I create baby mobiles out of dried florals, origami, and design paper hot air ballons on my Sillohuette... polymer clay? Yes. Jewelry making with wire? Yes. Alcohol ink on glass? Yes. Oil paintings on glass? Yes. I can't seem to stop myself. Mainly because i can make amazing things.. even the first time I try them... but I can't do them ALL, and I don't really want to.. part of me thinks I'm missing out on some potential of finding that magical thing I was born to do... and in the midst of it all I have 4 kids (1, 2, 4, and 10)... so any art i get to do is beyond frustrating because there is never enough time without interruption. Some days i tell myself I have to quit art. But i come back lol. I love ink and watercolor. I recently got an I pad for procreate so i can set down my work for the kids and not worry about spilled water or destroyed paints and drawings because I didn't have time to put it away.. so im trying to commit to making art there and finding my flow for a portfolio... not doing every form of art you can think of. Maybe we will find our place 😂
Oh my goodness, I hear you! It's not just art, I'll spend days agonising over the perfect sketchbook or pen. I think if art and crafts are just a hobby then go for it, try everything, do whatever you feel like that day. But when it's your means of making money, while you don't necessarily need a 'style' that is set in stone, you do need focus at least. It's hard.
@@daniwilliamsillustration that’s still pretty incredible! New subscriber, do you have videos on how to turn the sketches into stickers from a sketchbook?
@@gabzwilson2750 My most recent video was about how I make my stickers but I didn't cover how I scan and clean them up. I do plan to do something on that soon though.
Wow when initially seeing that you’re cutting them by hand I thought “that’s crazy!” But you really have a system that works and is so much less stress than dealing with the Cricut. Very impressive and the sticker designs are amazing!
Wow, I think that is impressive you’ve done all that work by hand. Do you have any tips or insights for how you’ve kept your wrist happy with that much scissor use? I did miniature knitting years ago under some intense deadlines, which gave me some repetitive motion injuries in my wrist and shoulders at the time, and I know I tend to clench scissors a bit hard when I’m focused on accurate cuts.
It's never actually bothered me. The hand holding the scissors is barely moving, all the turning of the paper is done with my left hand, but maybe I've just been lucky in avoiding strain.
@@daniwilliamsillustration Hmmm. I’m going to have to pay closer attention to what “jobs” each of my hands are doing what the next time I cut out something precise with scissors. It sounds like you probably have some better habits, and it makes sense it wouldn’t hurt if one’s muscles are consistently in a more relaxed state. Thanks so much for replying!
Thank you. I use Printed.com for my stickers and cards and have done for years. For these sticker sheets you need to look for their 'flat unfinished sheets' and select the crack-back paper.
Thank you! I planned to make more like this but then I wasn't sure if I had anything to add that I hadn't already covered. There'll definitely be more Procreate videos to come though.
I have this problem too and it’s driving me insane right now. I wonder, if I could focus on just one technique for a whole month. I might try one week for now. That will be enough of a challenge 😅 Thank you for sharing!
Ahh but WHICH technique? 😆 I found it helpful to put some materials away in the loft, where they can’t tempt me. Also, if you keep a sketchbook with different techniques etc, write notes in it about how you felt creating each thing in it. Sometimes I think I want to work in a particular way, then I flip through my sketchbook and am reminded I tried it before and hated it!
@@daniwilliamsillustration it will take some time until I decide on the technique and sketchbook 😂 Putting some supplies away is a good tip, I might try that 😅
Awesome video. Just purchased procreate and am a beginner. Loved some of the helpful tips and the simple subject matter to follow along with to learn. Thanks
Thank you, glad it helped. There are so many possibilities with Procreate. I was overwhelmed when I first got it, but you just have to keep playing around and find what works for you. Good luck!
