What's this? No spandex? No synthesizers? No garbage thrown all over the field? (except for you Tommy Blue Devils... That was slick) Ahhhh .. Sweet sweet DCI at its finest
I too was a trombone player from Memphis playing among the young men from various colleges who were outstanding..an experience I will cherish for the rest of my days.....GREAT TIMES!!!🎉
After 28 years, this show has aged so incredibly well. A master class in so many aspects... minimalist everything... just black / red... brass, percussion and color guard... this is one of my few 'go to' shows when I need an old school Regiment fix! Bravo!
I continue to assert that The Tubes is one of the best American Rock bands ever, musically speaking. The stage shows were brilliantly performed to the point where cheesy was even brilliant. The arrangements and compositions largely due to Bill (Sputnik) Spooner's work. Not having seen this recording before, thank you. For whatever it's worth, no other band was doing work this complex. That stands to this day, for the most part.
If i remember correctly, they went to Cactus h.s.in Phoenix, same as Alice Cooper and they played house ,clubs till Tubes left for better clientele in San Fran, Cooper always remained in Phoenix, the digs were infinitly better than teenage years
We should start a drum & bugle corps in Holland playing that sound track for a minute. Add ten guitarists And a bunch of china cymbals Haha Party on, Holland!
Anybody remember THE TUBES at BIMBO’s! SF EMBRACED THE TUBES IN A CLASSIC SF NIGHTCLUB FOR A SERIES OF INCREDIBLE SHOWS! Luv this incredibly talented band!!
leuke video kan je zulk soort van die video’s maken voor mij want ik ben van jong jubal en jubal en wilhelmus showkorps en showkorps jong holland junioren en seinioren heel erg fan
I feel like, if Shostakovich could write drill, this would be the drill he'd write for this show. Part compulsive straight lines, part neurotic blobs, part anxious sharp angles, and part genius curves. This show is DSCH to a tee and it really makes you feel different. It's a feeling without a name, when you see something and know you've just witnessed genius.
Well it was the 70s lol. But believe it or not. I got to know someone who hung out with the band. She said that Fee was pretty straight when it came to drugs and preferred hanging out watching TV.
I love this show to death, honestly. Phantom Regiment is my favorite corps and Shostakovich is my favorite composer. Having said that... <deep breath> Realistically, they were the 3rd place corps that night. Both The Cadets and Blue Devils were better. I even think Phantom had better corps in 1995 and 1997. What this 1996 show does though is hit a zeitgeist and it's very "controlled" and "precise, " elegant, even, in contrast to their competitors who were trying their best to be the fastest and wildest. So, on Finals night, it worked to be different and they tied for first place. It's a great corps and great show. The percussion book was pretty great and the horn sound was rich af. Even the color guard was on point. That said, yeah, The Cadets and Blue Devils had a higher performance to me.
I was at the new PPHS (Blue Stars) and due to the Cymbalist unable to attend, I was kidnapped by Bob Sr, and marched there. The only Blue Star to do so. However, we beat the world champions it was Father VS Son. YAY! But we've done so many joint performance (Blue Stars and Band of Gold) side by side! It was awesome!
incredible footage of the drum major in the closing seconds. Looks like she is about to lose it and burst into tears ! She knows they have won ! just not realizing they will have to share.
If you've done any marching at any level, you know how insanely difficult that last piece of drill in the opener is to pull off. And they absolutely smashed it. God I love this show.
Saw them supporting Alice Cooper in London a few years back they were great. The Mission were also supporting...they were ok but an extra hour of The Tubes would have been better.
The camera work is extremely unprofessional, I believe a six-year-old kid's you could do better. They focus, on a little insignificant things that are going on instead of the Drumline hornline the color guard. Total waste of time and does not represent the organization's at all properly.
I just saw these guys last month (August 2023) for the first time in almost 25 years. Fee is 75 years old now… and the show was every bit as good as when I was a kid! It was unbelievable.
This was one of the most amazing performances I have ever witnessed live. They were just on fire, the show had so much passion and emotion. I was in tears by the end, and the crowd was going bananas. It was just a perfect performance on a perfect night in sweaty, awful Orlando Florida! I felt sorry for BD as they had to perform after Phantom, but BD held their own. I was never a fan of ties, but it is what it is. I really thought Phantom might beat Blue Devils by a tenth or two. Looking back now, I honestly think they were both deserving Gold Medalists!
