I started collecting cards at the age of 8 in 1973, meaning I've been collecting for over a half century. My collection includes trying to get a card of everyone in the Hall of Fame when they were playing, and working on all the Topps baseball sets from 1951-1990. I also love unopened material from before 1975 and started the channel so that others could also enjoy as I open some of these packs and boxes.

I was wondering if you were going to mention Joe Nuxhall (,or Nuxall as it is spelled on his 1956 Topps Card 😁) while you were talking about David Clyde . I remember the hype ..then the fizzle . Then we got the Bird 2 years later . But I digress . Love these videos and looking forward to the next one . BTW ..the Saving the Combo card for 200 was a nice touch .I remember checking to see the Best Reds got a 5 or a 0 on their card numbers as a kid .

Never knew about David Clyde. Sad story sort of like Von McDaniel who the Cardinals had such high hopes in the 50s.I knew about Spic and Span cards but never seen them.That Spahn is amazing as is the rookie Aaron

Super nice cards. As you can see, SGC is fairly tough on vintage. I laugh when I still hear people insinuate that they are somehow softballs compared to PSA. It's not true.

They are definitely not softballs compared to PSA-- as tougher or a little tougher.

I gotta find the Seaver for my collection. I've heard a little about these, but not enough to sink my teeth into it yet. Great showcase of your collection there man!
@halfcenturycollectingcards
@halfcenturycollectingcards 14 дней назад
I bought a near set thinking I would keep some of the cards like Aaron, Mays, Clemente, Gibson, and a few more and would sell the rest, but its really grown on me-- like premium cards from '69. I can't get rid of them now. My Seaver is about the lowest condition of the cards I have, probably G/VG, but the color is still so vibrant on it. You'd love it.

Agree with you on Ted Simmons, why it took so long to get in the Hall of Fame. Saw Ryan pitch when he was with the Angels in the new stadium just built in 1974 for the Kansas City Royals. He beat the Royals. Bob Gibson best ever!

Great cards and beautiful 61 packs. My 61 pack fell and the gum shot out the side in the PSA holder. At least the gum is not attached to the card. Love the Crawford and Joss and did not know there were 69 Topps Supers. I have a 1970 Super pack. Anyway the National sure looked crowded and when I went to Cleveland do not remember having traffic problems. Seemed to be a lot more vintage dealers than I remember with a greater amount of unique l pre war.

Wow what a collection. I loved your 1938 Goudey Joe Medwick surprised you have not sent that in to SGC but then you show me that Ramly Plank what a special card. I picked up a Plank 1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel but I think the Ramly may be nicer and rarer. The Chief Bender Caramel E98 love the color, I have the Caramel Standard and T206. I just picked up my first Pennock as he shares the picture with Meadows shaking hands before the1927 World Series game. It's a 1928 Tabacalera La Morena very rare one of 3. Are you going to the National? My last was 2019 and do not plan to go to anymore. Thanks for the great video.

@halfcenturycollectingcards Месяц назад
Thanks Larry. You've got some pretty cool cards as well. I won't be going to the National as the dates are the very same dates the summer American Legion baseball team my son plays for and I coach have section playoff games. The same will happen next year, but then I am targeting getting to the '26 National. I would like to find a good vintage fall or winter show. I know you went to Chantilly in the spring-- do you think their fall show or another would be worth traveling to?
@larrygitlin6017
@larrygitlin6017 Месяц назад
@@halfcenturycollectingcards The Chantilly show is a nice show but so much smaller than the National. I go there only because I live in NOVA. If you are into autographs they usually have a large amount of signers. The show is three days and you could then take in DC as part of the trip.. If your strictly Vintage isn't Strongville closer to you? Anyway good luck to you and your son in the tournament.

Really nice cards. I've bought some graded cards but never sent any in. I like my sets in albums. But grading is good if you aren't sure if a card is authentic. Wither it's authentic or not if they say it is then I guess it is.
@halfcenturycollectingcards
@halfcenturycollectingcards Месяц назад
Yes, I like them in albums too. The ones I felt better about getting graded were the oversized ones that didn't really fit in albums and didn't have a great way to store them. Still on the fence overall about it though.

I always wanted a Double header and the Aaron fits the bill. AND a spic & span! I won't grade or buy cards like that though in the 9 x 12 SGC notebook slab. It rediculous. In PSA, they sometimes fit and sometimes don't. Nice PSA yellow gehrig "replacement" too. I love the Caramels. especially the Hornsby. I also love the Chocolates, Willards . A great collection of some really neat stuff. What a haul and submission. Nice of SGC to not down charge you for the Seaver beating. F them. That's why I send them ALL NOTHING but fish heads.
@halfcenturycollectingcards
@halfcenturycollectingcards Месяц назад
Yeah, I've got a '65 Kahn's Aaron that I bought already in a PSA holder that doesn't fit great either and there is so much room in the card space of it that it has half fallen sideways.
@larrygitlin6017
@larrygitlin6017 Месяц назад
It looks like you did ok mostly with a few disappointments. The monopoly bothers me. I guess SGC will not be grading at the National so it won't compete with PSA as they did last year and ate them up with their lower prices.

Red, happy Father's day. My dad got me into watching and playing baseball in 1974. We went to several games together through 1981. His favorite player was George Foster. When he went to the Mets as a Reds fan he stopped going to games. Shortly after him and mom divorced and he moved a thousand miles away. I never got to spend much time at all with him the past 40 years. He passed in December. I'll always be thankful that he introduced me to the greatest game ever.

Very nice display. Excellent Ray Dandrige card. Yes, those cards are very, very thin. I had the pleasure to meet him and get his autograph when I was in college. He was a very nice man. // That Vida Blue card is neat. He had a great season in 1971, but people forget that Mickey Lolich had one more win than and a few more strikeouts than Blue. Blue did have a better ERA, and that is probably why he got the Cy Young award in 1971. Unfortunately for Lolich, not getting the Cy Young in 1971 might have cost him a chance to get into Cooperstown. // Looking forward to your next display.
