Wish I would have seen this a couple days ago. Bent my rod at a single 90* angle, good thing I bought two rods, will go fix other like yours, mine worked, but would not work from passenger side of middle of engine - angle impossible. I will not mention how long I tried from under that side of car, before a wily coyote moment made me change sides and angle. 🦮🙂

To anyone with a B6 S4 not a chance this will work for you, I tried. No where near enough space with the 4.2 in the way. The only way is to pop out the front grille and loosen the 3 nuts hold the hood to the latch. Good luck.

It can pop out its not bolted. If you're careful you can do it without breaking the tabs.

This is the only method that worked for me. Tried others posted but this actually works. Bought a 1/4 steel rod and bent it to make the tool they use in the video.

Had a 2008 Audi A6 with a broken hood release cable. Saw your video, made the tool out of a scrap piece of rebar. Put the car up on ramps and from underneath popped the hood open in less than 2 minutes. Thanks for the video. Took the car to several auto shops and they would not even attempt to open it. They all said I had to rip the grille out (Ouch $$$). All is good, thanks again.

Thank you for your feedback! It helped me to want to give a try for my A6 2007. Hope it will work:) Enjoy your car, it's a great one.

How'd you get it to fit in the front - mines is a 2.7 TDI and the fan is in the way - can't really get underneath the locking mechanism to open the latch.

You are the man. Just did a timing belt and the release cable popped out of the latch and I didn't realize it until after I shut the hood.... I am a BMW mechanic and this was my very first Audi I've ever worked on.... I was immediately thinking I would need to cut through the hood and get another... I was able to use a straight transmission extension bar with a 3/8th to 1/4 adapter and small 1/4 ext... strategically fed it in and used the crank pulley as the pry point.... didn't have another a4 here to look at... RU-vid search led me right to this video and I had the hood open in 10 min... just had to throw the car up on the lift and pull the splash panel underneath. Again, you are the man. I appreciate you RU-vid contributors so much... I should start to contribute myself.... just can't seem to find the extra time :-/

See that hole at the bottom of the latch? Use a bar with a 90° bend and use the latch for leverage as you twist the bar 😉

Same catch and setup on my 955 Cayenne, its not going back to allow the hood to lock down and is popping back up, any suggestions?
@indgoblazer
@indgoblazer 7 лет назад
make sure the hood release lever is all the way in were it needs to be if so the latch its self is ban and needs replaced
@carsandscars8022
@carsandscars8022 4 года назад
shop time Flood the latch with lube first before replacing it. Close the hood and keep “bouncing” it up and down until it latches. If the cable isn’t holding the release open and it works freely, something maybe keeping the striker from going down far enough to close the latch. Latch or striker adjustment. Foreign object, bent striker?
