Every Summer, I have 6 weeks off. And every year I am cleaning, reorganizing and throwing stuff out room by room, and I finish projects that I've abandoned (or throw them out if I'm no longer interested). Usually, I do a chore in the morning and a creative hobby in the afternoon. This yearly clear-out really brings my mind at ease.
Lovely video. I do so many things, it's hard to prioritize sometimes. I don't describe myself as an illustrator anymore, but an overall creative or crafter, because how do you summarise being an illustrator, a writer, an embroiderer, a RU-vidr, a painter...? Good luck with all your projetcs!
Oh my goodness, same! We're creatives now haha. I saw your channel, I really like your vibe 💙 thanks for taking the time to comment, hope you're having a lovely summer 🌞
Loved this video. I'm writing a novel atm and found the same rules apply. Doing nothing and letting the brain rest makes your work much more meaningful. Thank you for sharing x
Aw, thank you for taking the time to comment 💙 Absolutely, I think most people would benefit, were so inundated with information all the time. Good luck with your writing!
Seeing a small video with this much quality is always amazing. I clicked this video thinking it was about doing more, being a polymath extera. Rather than getting what I wanted, affirmation that working more on all different projects I have music writing art ext would be good, I instead got what I probably needed more, told to calm down and enjoy life more so when I do make art I can put more into it. I think we often have to learn these lessons again and again. A few months ago when I was releasing a song a week and working on publishing multiple different books, among blogs and other various projects I burned out really badly and seemed to place the blame not on doing too much but rather on stopping. I felt so strongly that I should be able to do all that. This video really helped focus one thing about burnout and such. It is less an issue of doing too much but the lack of downtime and relaxing between it all. Anyway wonderful video, great pacing, great editing and thoughrouly relatable. Cant wait to see more from you and this channel
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Is there a place I can listen to your music? I literally had this conversation with a friend yesterday: that we have to keep learning the same lessons over and over. And I definitely relate to being so stuck in the mindset that "resting is the problem". I truly believe we become better creatives when we step away from our art. Wishing you all the best and hoping you have a wonderful summer.
Interesting see different kind of books people get inspired by. Nice to see so much fantasy in yours 😊 As a child I used my brother’s D&D rulebooks for inspiration, so I know game guides are a great source, even if you do not play yourself 😂 for specific needs and references I just nowadays scour images online, but otherwise I’ve been hoarding some books on old fine art masters. (but very few, I try to mainly use e-books)
oh, I love D&D, its such a versatile universe! I know, these days e-books are what I buy most, but there's just something wonderfully immersive about real print, so sometimes I'll get a book I really want 😊 thanks for commenting by the way, it's wonderful hearing how other people approach creativity! take care!
I'm definitely also prone to trying to cram all the creative projects in at once and trying to plan & think about them all the time, so this is a very valuable & important reminder, thank you!!
This turned out to be my favorite video ever! I love your humor, your insights, your approach to deal with that creative rut and what you chose to capture, how concise you were, your voice and the way you speak, your style... So glad the RU-vid algorithm chose your video for my front page today! 🥰 Have subscribed the moment you showed your blue walls like - that didn't solve the problem obviously - had to laugh out loud :D Looking forward to seeing more of your videos! And thank you so much for sharing your vision ❤ Love from (equally rainy) Germany, Jess 🤗🌻
Hi Jess! First of all - yay! I was worried my humour would be too subtle lol 😂I'm glad it was also insightful, thank you for taking the time to comment 💙 have a wonderful day 💐 (in spite of the rain)
I watched this yesterday on my ipad and I hate writing comments on it, but I promised myself I would come back here and make a point of saying this. The effort you put into this video was incredible. As a fellow art youtuber I know how long this must have taken to plan, film, and edit and you should be so proud of yourself. Please keep making videos, I truly believe it will pay off for you and you'll see great success with it 💕
aw, you made me a little bit teary reading that, thank you for this kind comment! Obviously I had to check you out, and wow I love your videos 💙 you have a subscriber in Sweden now haha!
I've been home sick for a few days now, and this video of yours is giving me the chillest and coziest feelings :) I love so much how you talk about experimentation and process. As an artist, I believe all humans are meant to create, and I wonder how many people are intimidated by the outcome of their creating and so choose not to make anything. Your fish are awesome btw! The primary colors and gold are 🤌 chef's kiss
Aw yay, that's EXACTLY the vibe I'm aiming for 😁 and I totally agree, everyone has creativity in them! It's literally healing for our brains to engage in creative hobbies.
When you mentioned your mum i felt so happy because after my mom's death I love wearing her stuff because it's all i have that reminds me of her. Sorry for asking is your mom also gone😢
I am so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine what it's like to loose a parent ❤️ my mum is still alive, but we live far apart so it's nice to have a piece of her here
You do not look like a failure. You seem to have accomplished quite a lot and are poised to accomplish a lot more over your lifetime. None of us can ever do everything we wish we could do, especially high achievers. There is always more we could do or want to do, which is a good thing, or there would be nothing to strive for or look forward to. Keep going. 🙂
Thank you so much for taking the time to say this! I am trying to shift my perspective and look at what I've learned etc, but some days I'll admit it's really difficult to not be hard on myself. I think our own brain is our biggest enemy haha...
getting a diagnosis for ADHD and getting meds for it has helped my motivation and focus so much! its so odd being able to focus and want to do something 😝
Oh, no. I was really looking forward to the Art Deco book, hahahaha. Will you eventually add a couple more books and make a part 2? Very interesting video, thanks! Loved that book about the Pre-Raphaelites.
What a beautiful city, I am heading there in July. Doing this trip solo. I am trying to find all the quiet green spots on google maps, like trails and such. I enjoyed yours vlog.
This was such a relaxing video. I understand the frustration of wanting to complete the project and get it done. I have been working now on several creative projects for a couple of years, and sometimes life gets in between, but in the end, I truly do believe the most important thing is to enjoy the journey. As you said, have fun. Thank you for sharing your process. I love how the dragon at the end turned out! :)
