So I just installed mine and I got my harness from ess k customs from Saskatchewan and it's 100% the same but I still have hyper flash on both sides but im wondering if it has something to do with the light strip I got hard wired to the left tail light that it would make both sides hyper flash????
In Europe, the brake lights and LED turn signals on the 5th generation RAM are separated. The brake lights on top and the turn signals are at the bottom.😊
Yes because you're switching to LEDs. You need AlphaOBD to change the body control module to LED brake lamp. The brake light will still work, but you'll get and error on your dash constantly.
what brand did you use for the tail lights and the harness? if it was retro shop do you know if the harness would work on the tail lights if i got them from a different brand?
I love my 4th gen oem leds, ones starting to die so I was thinking about this but the price tag is just too much for a slightly upgraded modern look, at least for me anyways
I have a '17 Ram 2500, Alpharex Nova Headlights and 5th gen tails from Two Three designs. I got a "Parking Light Error" every time I used the turn signals with lights on. I used AlfaOBD to change from incandescent bulbs to LED and haven't received an error code since. And my lights flash in unison FWIW with no hyperflashing. In my experience most of the problems came from the headlights, I've had several sets. I recommend plugging regular incandescent bulbs in the front (without resistors) and see if the issues continue. If so, you know what the issue probably is.
There is a app you can down load to a laptop or your phone along with a programmer that yu plug into your truck and you can go in and set your truck up to allow leds to work properly.
I added these taillights to my 2012 RAM 2500 CTD, I had to add load resistors to the stock harness because of the hyper flash even with the harness from the Retro Shop, now they work like a charm, yeah, I get some out of timing with the brake lights with the turn signals but that doesn't bother me, now I have figure out why my fog lights don't work, they did before the new taillights.
Hey Paul!! There's an app called alpha obd which can change all the power outputs on the tuck to managed led/hid so you don't need the resistors. Everything in this truck to led with no resistors or capacitors and I haven't had any issues. The only issue I had was the out of timing tails , but that doesn't bother me anymore lol.
If it has a resistors on the hardness and you done the AlphaOBD that could be the issue the resistors are over riding the Alpha program...... once you do the Alpha program you don't need resistors or any other canbus modules the resistors are causing the power delay since the power has to go through them and then send it out and that's causing your delay
That makes sense. I really don't thing there are any resistors in the harness. Everything operates normally. The only issue is the delay, that in only caused when I hit the break pedal
@@6234christian get a hold of the company that made the hardness and see if they added resistors if so that's the problem..... also make sure you correctly set the tail lights in the AlphaOBD some times it takes a few tries before it makes the changes
It was from a 4thgen 2500 and I sourced it from carparts.ca. It sources all the junkyards across the US and Canada. I paid 360 Canadian and it is mint. Thanks alot man!
Do you have issues with activating the turn signals while braking? I’ve heard timing is off with the retro shop adapters. I also seen that if you have your foot on the brake it switches back and forth from red and amber. Instead of flashing amber on and off. Is this the case with yours?
Yes there is a delay only when you have your foot on the brake while the turn signal is going. I have another video explaining this issue. As for your second question. When my foot isn't on the brake it's just the amber that flashes on and off. And when I am on the brake it goes from red to yellow via q relay built in the retro shop harness. Watch my questions and concerns video for more answers :) I hope that helps
Hey Man, about to do the third brake light swap and also the 5G 2500 tail swap. Did the third brake light throw a code in the dash before AlphaOBD? Also, I’m also thinking of retroshop Harness but just with red turn signals. I think you said in another video you had to use alphaOBD as well? I thought the harness would correct this issue!?!? How long to ship to you? I’m outside Toronto (not northern Canada) but just curious. Thanks man. Great videos!
Hey man!! So yes the the third brake light threw a light out error. Anything that was originally a halogen bulb. I corrected all of that with alpha obd. The harness from retroshop is designed for the brake lights and signals. It's literally a plug and play system for those HD tail lights. I don't understand what you mean by just the red turnsignal thing. I'm thinking your meaning you'll bypass the relay aspect for the turn signal. I was thinking of trying the same thing lol. Retroshops shipping was insanely quick. Like a week. And I'm in yellowknife, and that was during covid. I was very impressed by there shipping. And thanks for the compliment Brad!! That means alot!! Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!!
My questions and concerns video has a ram forum setup in its description. It should show you how to properly run a new harness to your bcm. And if you are on facebook 4th gen ram pages guys on there make different harnesses. But none of them are businesses. The page I would join is 4th gen rams 2.0
I think that there is a mis understanding there. You have to get the 2500/3500 hd taillights if you want them to fit your 4th gen!! I bought all my gear through retroshop.us
@@6234christian thats freakin awesome. I have a 2018 1500 and was just looking at these but thought I could not get them. Thanks man. Does the wiring adapter work well? any error codes? also how tricky was it to get the amber lights adapter connected to the trailer wiring?
@@pupetm i have a video about the 5th gen tails. Watch that. I explain the adapter from retroshop. I did have light out errors i think. I just programmed the out with an app called alpha obd. Theres lots of amazing videos of what that app can do!!
Hey!! Sure. At 8 minutes and 20 seconds it says what two settings I programed in alpha obd to turn on the factory settings. At the beginning of the video, it shows where I bought the camera harness from.
@@hasanakkoca3565 Oh, Sorry. Not a Problem!! So in the app I was under the body control module for my 2018 model year. The two settings that I selected were the CHMSL Camera and LED CHMSL Lamp Present. I had to change both those settings to yes. Those where the settings to program it into my radio, and to fix the bulb light out indicator. Make sure when you program these, that you give the computer time to accept the change. I found that a 10 minute interval worked best for me. I hope that helps!!
Its like what the other guy said, so that he can’t flip them for cash after getting a brand new set for free. He has to either make a video proving that he’s drilling the holes into his old set or take photos of it, then he either ships them back or disposes of them
Yes. The truck is looking for a certain resistance in a halogen bulb. Once its led it has a different resistance causing an the computer to trip and tell you your bulb is out. But you can program it with alpha obd so the computer thinks is normal.
@@anthonyc572 yeah. I bought the adapter barness off of Retroshop.us. But It works better if you wire it through the bcm or the front signals. I posted a video about them. You can see the problem mine have
That is the same issue I'm having on my 2016 1500, so I'm currently using halogen tails (with LED bulbs) for now. The link I provide mentions of a BCM limitation on certain year models but yours might work. www.ramforum.com/threads/2019-hd-tail-lights-in-a-4th-gen.151018/
Yes, I had bulb out messages. But was easily able to program the truck to look for the leds instead. The original harness plugged into my new harness to make the whole set up work.
@@jtrut6365 yes I did. It tied into both the 7 pin and the existing tailight harness. It was super easy but there is a but! Now here is what I learned recently. There is a relay built into the harness. Its to help the tailight go between the brake light and the signal light. I noticed that if I brake and have my turn signal on at the same time there is a big delay between my front signal and the rear signal. So now harnesses are coming out where you have to also tie the harness into the front turn signals, so there is no delay. A guy on one of the 4th gen ram pages makes them and sells them. It's cheaper and works better.
@@6234christian hey one last question could you show the time delay between the front and rear? I'm wondering how significant it is because I can't find but 2 videos and yours is one of them and you can't see any delay in the lights on either one, so I'm just wanting to see it
I ordered everything off of retroshop.us. The tail lights were about 1350usd completed and on the truck. The only reason why it cost so much is because they are a factory tail light
