Thanks for you video, I’m wondering if you have the darche 180 awning and how it goes with the overhang. Spoke to darche and they told me no more than 500 overhang and the ranger works out to 615 either side. Want to get one but unsure if the awning sits well. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hey mate, on my car the rear of the awning is in line with the bottom of the tub rack spoiler thing and the front overhangs the top of the windscreen by 30cms. For reference, I can’t see it from the driver seat unless I lean forward. Hope that helps.
@@Wonderinggreek it’s pretty good in the rain, had mine for about 5 years and it’s still remaining strong and the canvas is in great quality. Under rain and wind you need to tie it down but overall it’s very robust!
@@rangertouring thanks so much for the feedback back, ordered one today and was a bit iffy. Much enjoy your vids and if ever in Melbourne and want company around a camp fire sing out ! Take care!
Hey mate, it’s a pretty good mattress as far as air mattresses go. There is not other cushioning other then air so it will feel pretty normal. It’s got a lot of depth once inflated which does allow you to sink in a bit. Overall pretty good
You’ll be so disappointed when you see the lower falls at Apsley. You were so close but so far away. Seeing these sort of things in person is so much more enjoyable then with a drone for your own personal memories. Need to give yourself a bit more time to explore. Great little NP camp above the Apsley Falls. It’s definitely spectacular countryside. 👍🏼
what pressures where you at? i drop to 15psi straight up and never had issues, meanwhile a VW amarock that dropped to 22-25 psi went down like a sack of potatoes and it wouldnt even spin in reverse after digging and 4 maxtraxx. Swung the collie in behind and whislt soft went forward then backed up and 2 snatches later he was out. Keep up the exploring and vids
Hey mate, was running 16 PSI at the time. The slope was a bit off camber and I slowed down and it started going sideways. Normally it’s pretty straight forward with the maxtrax, but the slope made it really difficult to go forward.
I have the 23zero dakota 1600 on tub racks on my wildtrak and i love it. It fit hows yours is orientated well. However i have rotated it so it open up out to the deivers side so that all windows can he used. I did remove my sailplane for this but kept the roller shutter!
Good walkthrough on the RTT. I have a Kings Big Daddy swag and use their 100mm self inflating mattress in it that works a treat in the swag.. do you think that would fit inside the RTT ? My swag rolls up pretty much the same size as my sons swag (same Big Daddy Deluxe) with the 75mm foam mattress that comes standard with that swag. What tub rack are you running to put the RTT on ? Have you installed any bracing for the rollershutter ? Looking at something similar for my PX1 Wildtrak.
Hey Mate, if you deflate it and fold it up it would fit no worries if you also took the current mattress out. With the mattress still in, it would likely fit but be a bit of a squeeze. The swag is hands down more comfortable, but overall I am a fan of the roof top tent. Tub rack wise its from a guy on the Sunshine Coast who makes his own. If you look up NFA fab you will find his page - it comes with a brace kit and he installed on the day. I am overall very happy with the product.
Old saying brother 2 is 1 1 is non.... double down on all recovery for vhc always keeps you and your family safe and makes you useful for the rest of us if we are in strife...cheers for the vid brother
There’s a walking track to the bottom of the falls close to where you parked your cars. Great video and nice to see you exploring in our local area. Looking forward to part 2
What tips would you give for maintaing the gearbox temp? Do you usually 4wd in 4H and then set the auto in Sports mode and select the gear that you want to use or let the auto run between the gears as needed? I am thinking of putting an electric fan on my auto gearbox dual core transmission cooler at the moment.
Hey mate, I’ve got an external oil cooler fitted and am getting a thermal bypass fitted shortly. I have a scan guage and more or less drive to the temperature. If I’m in soft sand or driving steep hills, I will always run the car in low range as it doesn’t get as hot. At Stockton Beach I had it in high range and it got very hot, very quickly. I will use it in sports mode to control what gear I’m in, by doing that I can usually keep the auto temp under 100 even in sand. It does start to climb up a little higher if I’m conducting a long decent in low range
@@rangertouring depending on the terrain, I swap back and forth between sports mode and drive in either 4H or 4L. Despite many peoples comments about the Ranger gearbox, it is actually pretty clever and does a fair job of managing it's temps if left to self manage. 100% agree to swap into sport mode for steep climbs/descents but as soon as it levels off a bit, I swap back to Drive and you will be amazed at how quickly the gearbox jumps up to a much higher gear, relieving some of the stress. I'd also advise that if you do a lot of deep mud driving, to make sure you get right down into the bottom of the radiator with a hose, especially if you have bash plates protecting the cooling zone of the engine bay. When my first intercooler failed due to the winch cabling being run up against it and eventually wearing through the fins, Ford found that all the radiators at the front had about the bottom 3rd of each one caked in mud which impacted cooling performance. Looks like you had some good tracks there and saw some cool spots !!
Hey Ranger touring! I've been trying to work out whether the Condamine River Road has been reopened as at May 2024. Information online is varied but looks like you were able to get through??
Snorkel was standard on my base model BT50! Along with the e locker. Huge mistake putting your charger under the bonnet. Battery sits in the rear left in a space that is useless. Makes access easy. I think your setup is crap! Too bad if you don't like that. But don't put up a video saying it's the "ultimate". Because it isn't. You're a f@cktard suggesting that you use your hitch pin for a snatch strap!
Family has owned a BT50 - E locker standard (yes) - snorkel (no) What’s wrong with the charger under the bonnet Air compressor sits there, so a battery wouldn’t fit No worries if you didn’t like it. Thank you for the view anyway! It take a horizontal pull, what do you think your snatch block is held in by! I would never use the tow ball, obviously that is silly. Once again, thank you for the feedback!
Camping in Western Australia and doing a trip around, the shelter is meant to be for sleeping, and sleeping well and comfortably. It’s not meant to be a house, and would be best suited when effort and time to set it up and keep it is kept to minimum. Swags beat every other shelter options including roof top tents. Far more sheltered if you pop it under an awning/tarp, and a piece of tarp under that tents can’t benefit often. And this video further shows why swags requiring pegs are rubbish. The best I’ve found is actually the wanderer extreme heavy duty swags due to being able to be completely peg free and do well even in hail. Slap a Monsta mat inside and bring a simple usb powered hand vacuum and the take down doesn’t even require any effort when rolling up.
Hi mate, thanks for the feedback. I do actually have a Wanderer swag which wasn’t used for this video as it was similar in size to the Darche Dusk til Dawn swag (bit smaller though). That swag has been my go to for about 5 years and I’ve always found it reliable and comfortable. With that said, pending your style of camping, these days we have a roof top tent and I’m loving the space and practicality for on the move camping. However, you definitely take a hit with regards to mattress comfort and performance in poor weather
Hi mate, dropped down to 28 PSI. If I’m staying off-road for a while, I’ll pretty much always drop the tyres. With that said, you could get away with not doing it for this trip
you missed a big gap between the biker swag and the following domes - a compact tapered single swag. it was cold down south and less air volume helped in a big way
Really enjoyable mate! Like your rig, I’ve got same type of travels in Vic in mind and wanted to know if you’ve got a lift kit on your ranger and underbody protection. Cheers keep on keeping on. Subscribed and once again terrific narration and footage
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback and support! It’s lifted 2 inches, but after adding a bit of weight, it’s probably only 1 inch just above stock. It is fitted with slightly bigger tyres as well. I have a the off-road custom bash-plates which are still on the car today and working great! Generally speaking, you can get away in the high country with a pretty stock car, good tyres would be my main recommendation
I don’t know why I watched this video, have a Reign Outdoors 270 arriving tomorrow, so I guess I am just trying to validate my choice! Thanks for the info though!
Pvc pipe painted black way cheaper, same out outcome. Be mindful of exceeding the rangers roof carrying capacity. Awning, roof bars, max trax and water + tank youll be over oem weight
I keep saying...come back down to Vic and do a high country trip (and hit me up for a meet up)... that will be some serious hills ! Cudos though for working with what you have :-)
12:40 I nearly tip it in driving through that creek, straight across the creek from there. The other side has very soft edges. Great spot out there. Great episode!
