Safety Tip, Do Not place aerial on roof over an area that has been burned out. Never know if roof is compromised and guys get of ladder and fall through. Especially when you had so much solid roof near by. Vacants are a great learning tool.
Yet another mansard roof construction fire. Once they start, they roll across the entire 'attic' space underneath - usually with no fire stopping anywhere.
Hopefully there were no injuries to anyone related to this incident, that upper floor was really cooking. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.
I'm amazed it didn't burn to the ground like some of the ones in my city. One not too far from me also took out a parking garage and a few suites at the building behind it.
Completely agree. Its only a matter of time before the armchair Firefighters show up. Seems like they are everywhere now. I love how none of them have little to any experience on an actual fireground yet tell all of us how it's supposed to be done. They are a joke and would get people hurt if they were ever on an actual fireground.
Hopefully there were no injuries to anyone related to this incident, once they got the front opened up and the fire shot out, the explosion came unexpected. Maybe propane tanks for forktrucks blew. Thank you to all firefighters for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.
That's called a smoke explosion, or sometimes called a backdraft. All of that smoke that you see is actually combustible gas and particulates, but it's not hot enough to burn because it cools as it escapes the building. Inside the building, that trapped smoke is definitely hot enough to burn, but it can't burn because there's not enough oxygen inside to support combustion. When the building is opened, and air is let in fast enough that the smoke doesn't have time to cool below its ignition temperature, it starts burning hot and fast, making it look like an explosion.

It is amazing that a large building like that is allowed to be constructed without some sort of readily available municipal water supply for exactly this reason.
In my day the plywood coverings were called HUD windows. Sad but vacant bldg fires are a necessary evil. On Lower East Side in NY we went to one a day.
@1:15: Should be required viewing for ALL firefighters and support personnel on the scene of a fire: NEVER stand close to a building where there is a fire or near to firefighting operations. That man in the orange shirt is very lucky not to have been injured. In fact, he should not have been that close helping without wearing proper protective gear.
In August 1999 I've visited the Steelton Fire Dept. with a group of german, french and italian firefighters and some of us, me included, have slept one or two nights in the fire station. We have had a good time. I hope no one was hurt in this fire. Greetings from Saarbruecken/Germany, Frank
Surprised that attic did not flashover sooner. The initial fire stream into the attic was not hitting the seat of the fire. Good stop prevented further damage.
@@gregggoss2210 Kid, can you actually dispute what I said with FACT, or you just gonna use emojis because that's all you're capable of?? Pa. has probably the LOWEST training requirements for volunteer firefighters in the US. Dispute that...
@ffjsb , oh, you might be right about some of what we saw here, but I'm rolling my eyes because I see you're at it again. You have nothing to say but criticism about everyone else and every fire department other than who you may or may have been with. I'm sure you're absolutely perfect. You need to look in the mirror once in a while and stop shitting on everyone else. You are a bitter old man who thinks everyone else is wrong and you're completely right. Go ahead expert, tell everyone what they've done wrong and how you would do it perfectly and by the book that you keep in front of you as you type away.
I can’t imagine what it must be like for the Ukrainians ,for whom this is a daily occurrence under the Russian genocidal assault, and to have the Trump supporters wanting to pull the rug out from under them when they are so close to victory.
