I got bullied on my old course and the uni didn’t stand up for me at all, I felt like quitting but I decided to leave and go somewhere completely new (I’m now having a lovely time)! having a bad experience doesn’t mean you are bad❤️
Is it enough of an evidence to just write about what I have done in class to justify point number .... in TS? What evidence can I bring to show that I changed lesson plan during the lesson to adapt to class knowledge? Also, if I am revising to update my subject knowledge, what evidence can I provide? Given that I might be just reading ks3/ ks4 books or going through bbc bitesize.
Hi 😊 - Revision/BBC Bitesize notes - Adapting mid-lesson can be shown through reflection notes or you can mention it in mentor meetings which will then be noted down Hope that helps x
Hi, I had a small thought I'd need your input on. Would you bunch up several different word mats to form a larger word bank? I'd typically laminate them, punch a hole in the top corner and tie them up together. This could typically last the entire year and if they hopefully skim through it, they might commit some of those words to memory. What's your take? 🤔
No harm in that, but depending on age and academic ability, it could be overwhelming. A little like some children could have a whole page full of corrections, but it's best to pick a select few that they can edit without having too much to look at. You'd also have to consider how you help them navigate all of those word banks. For some children, giving a whole pack could make them feel like us reading a whole book. There are definitely pros though - I'm just playing devil's advocate. What do you think?
Starting training tomorrow and I’m so excited! I’m already thinking about what I want my classroom to look like when I do qualify (is that too soon lol)
Yay, are you excited? Classrooms vary so so much, you can be imaginative, but it's impossible to truly picture what it'll look like! Part of the fun (maybe)? 😉
@@cassieosbourne7666 I was school direct too, but I think we had like one or two training days too. Honestly being in the classroom is an incredible experience - learning on the job is the best because every day is so different!
You would have to do teacher training (with or without a PGCE is irrelevant) which will award you QTS. This stands for Qualified Teacher Status which is what you need to teach.
Religious education is taught as a subject in the curriculum but all religions are covered. There are some Christian schools in England, but if they're still under the government authority (not independent), then they will still have to cover other religions but they will pray and have religious assemblies.
Eeek! I'm excited for you too 😀 Do keep in touch on Instagram @thepetiteprimary 💓 I'd love to hear how you get on! Which year group would you like if you could choose? Xx
Hi there, do you mean the link to apply for teacher training? If it's a link I mentioned in the video, it will be in the description. Let me know if you can't find it x
@@aliceedache7226 Ah I see, sorry I still had (school) class still in my head. You will have to check course providers as some may accept this and some may not. They will also look at your GCSE grade, including science if you're interested in teaching primary x
I'm an ECT and starting with my first ever class next Wednesday! The school I interviewed for wanted an experienced Yr 6 teacher with at least 10 years of experience but changed their mind after my interview... Defo no pressure felt haha Very excited but also terrified! This video was so helpful and put my mind at ease
Hi Sophie, Thanks for commenting again! Yeah Year 6 can be daunting, but like I mentioned in my video, I felt the same. Build those relationships ASAP and establish and encourage good learning behaviours from early on, especially nearing SATS. Good luck! Xx

Hey Sophie! This is multiple years old now and I've made many videos since as I've changed positions and year groups a few times now. Funny you mentioned Year 6, I've just finished teaching them and released a video yesterday about my experience (the good and bad). Have you seen it? I can link it if not x
@@PetitePrimary Omg! I don't know how it happened but I had commented this on your Yr 6 video 🙈 Don't have a clue how it ended up here! Just watched this one as well and both videos are great, keep you the fab work x
2. Definitely. And those questions should be around the personal statement you made me write... because it shouldn't be a pop quiz full of impossible hypotheticals where the only honest answer would be "depends on 1,2,3,4, and 5 factors which you have not provided at this time".
Hi Miss Paris, I am interested in doing a primary school teacher training course. I was wondering how to check the demand for the primary school teacher job market. Do you have any advice or information please?
Hi Daniella, There is no set way to check the demand of jobs. There are so many factors that impact this: - Time of year - Retention rate of a school - Maternity leave - Loyalty of staff - Number of schools in an area - Size of area etc. Time of year is a big one. There are certain popular "seasons" where lots of jobs come out as teachers can't give two weeks notice like a lot of jobs. Maternity posts will be sporadic across the year though. Apologies I can't be more specific! Whereabouts are you based? X
Hello Miss Paris!!! That was a really lovely and insightful talk! I teared up in the end! Bless you 💕 I'll be doing my PGCE SCITT this September and I am assigned to a Year 6 class!! My feelings were the same (i think its still is) but after listening to this, it calms me down a bit.I have met them before the summer break and they seem lovely. My background was teaching in the early years so this is a huge jump for me. Anyway Ill do my best and thank you again for this lovely video!❤❤
Aw thank you so much for watching and commenting! Year 6 feels like a different breed of child aha, but builds those relationships ASAP. It's your biggest asset and tool. Also, don't let them view you as a trainee, assert yourself as a teacher (top tip). Best of luck 😁 Do follow me on Instagram if you're not already, I'd love to hear all about it x
This could be for many reasons, but mostly it might be due to too many candidates and they don't have time to reply. If they do, it might be a generic reply and they might specify not being able to give personalised feedback (which can also be frustrating). To avoid this, do read the description and also follow me on Insta @thepetiteprimary because I always post tips there x
Hiya, been enjoying going back and watching all your videos. I am 32 and debating a career change from midwifery to primary education. Im so worried about not being creative enough to create good lessons or boring the children! Did you find you were taught good ways of doing this?
Hi Victoria, If lack of creativity is the only obstacle stopping you from making the transition, don't let it be! I'm not creative and it doesn't stop me in the slightest. I would maybe recommend KS1 or KS2 then as EYFS does require more creativity than other years x
You can do it afterwards, but it's manageable simultaneously. It's the QTS you need to teach, the PGCE is just for academic development really. If you would prefer doing a QTS course without the assignments, it's not compulsory to do a PGCE afterwards. Personal preference x
@@marymmoon1190 yes of course! Here you go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n8tHqZyfjIY.htmlsi=NH23NH3oamNXcrPm Do follow me on Instagram too @thepetiteprimary if you have any questions x
Hey what are your standard hours? im doing my qts next month and I keep seeing stuff online about how long the hours are is this true ? or is it more so leave at 3:30 pm and mark work etc till 5?
It's hard to just give a timetable or specific figure in teaching. When I was in this role I left at 3:30 and didn't take anything home but for a traditional teaching role or training, you can be expected to stay later/you probably will as marking etc. takes longer due to lack of practice. If schools force you to stay until 6 or that's their culture, that's a big red flag in my opinion.
So informative. I’m in second year of uni and my current jobs throw me in a trajectory of primary teaching, and I think I am definitely going to go for a primary PGCE… How and where do I apply for a School Direct route?… do I go throw a university for a School Direct route?
Hey there, As of 2023 onwards, here is how to apply to teacher training. This video covers the entire process. Let me know if you have any questions and don't forget to follow me on Instagram X Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n8tHqZyfjIY.htmlsi=PsAZdUNY2ly6JwCI
I am starting my PGCE this September and I am really excited but I am wondering about how to structure essays and how many references and things you normally need. Also, any suggestions on how to record placement exercises! ❤
@@IsabelleCroad-Protheroe A minimum of one page of references are normally expected, unless it's an assignment that's a self-reflective journal. All unis ask you to write different things of different lengths so there's not necessarily a set structure I can advise you on x
I just want to thank you for your quality advice on this and your other videos. I’ve watched your PGCE application and interview videos and have had offers from all 4 of my choices to train in secondary English. Not only did I get through the interviews but managed to do so with a certain aplomb - they weren’t the stressful experience that interviews usually are - thanks to your advice in here
wouldn't bother with the application process, PGCE is a complete waste of time and needless hassle. Of 10 people Ive spoken with who have finished in the last 3 years nobody has moved onto a job. Massive investment of time no reward. Avoid
I had a lightbulb moment watching this. I finished my training back in August 2023 and I have lost count of how many jobs I have applied for since. I am l yet to be shortlisted for an interview. I have been racking my brain for what I have been doing wrong and I think your experience aligns with mine. My confidence is at an all time low and reading over my personal statement I can see that it is riddled with self-doubts. Thank you for this and your videos covering writing personal statements. Seeing that my experience is not wholly unique has already helped me a lot. Fingers crossed that my next personal statement gets me an interview.
Thank you for your informative video. What route should an international applicant (seeking a career change) take who has a first degree, a master's, and a PGCE all from their country, as well as two years of teaching experience (mid 2000's)? I also have Maths and English o level certificates, and I'm a CPA with many years of experience.
Contact a teacher training provider and see if this would be accepted as an equivalent. If not, I would try and apply for an assessment only route as you already have plenty of experience under your belt. Hope that helps x
