Over the last 15 years, I have coached & trained presenters, produced radio programmes (BBC and Commercial), written and made adverts & jingles and I have had the privilege of running a radio station in a competitive market. The one ethos that runs through every discipline is: connect by getting real.
In 2014 I did a talk at Next Radio (above) on “How To Be An Authentic Radio Presenter”. This is the epicentre of what I do, think, preach and love.
I love presenters: people who can put their head above the parapet and share their lives. They hold stories together, they break the news to the world, they change your mood, and they become your virtual friend. The only other artform that does that as rawly is stand up comedy.
As a presenter you are at the sharp end of communication. Your job is to connect with your audience and keep them listening longer (15 minutes longer at least). It’s an art, and it’s an underated one...
I want to talk slower but the truth is I feel like my energy is being drained, I feel really awkward but then everyone I meet says I speak really fast and sometime they don't pick my words sometimes.. guess I just have to start this practice, Thank you so much
thanks a lot!! i am struggling to teach English, cuz i speak far too fast, its bad enough that i have an accent but talking too fast sometimes makes me sound indecipherable!!!
Omw this is my biggest problem ... Thank you so much!!!! Im learning so much from you. My journey is just beginning and I truly can't wait and NOW im gonna be so prepared! 🙏🏻❤️
Id wish radio hosts would speak faster or just shut up all together. Play some fucking music nobody cares about your 10 crazy facts of the day or some lame caller talking about how she had a funny incident at work. I like having someone shuffeling the music both new and old. I dont care about all the other bullshit.
I always love being a presenter and it was my dream ever since I was growing up , I did efforts to reach the goal but I faced some stuff's that cut off my dreams ,I'm still watching the session to get new updates from you
Hi Kate , i have just gone through your amazing Tips. Thank you so much for taking time out to help me feel more confident about getting into radio ,Thanks Emma x
This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "stuttering talk" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Rincaas Stammify Blocker - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
