Sorry you are wrong about Japan, their military force was severely cut down after WWII as an agreement for peace between US and Japan. Japan's military force is only large enough to handle their own population if civil unrest would occur, Germany's had to withdraw all military force to have peace with US. Japan would not stand a chance and with US economy sucks and so does the euro too they will have difficulties to help any allies
North and the South are still divided. I highly doubt the U.S. would be fighting by itself I mean U.S. buys A LOT of stuff from China and if the U.S. goes down China will probably not be happy and I don't think Japan would surrender. Japan is pretty tough.
