From what I know, it is open to hotel guests and residents who live in the connected condos. I’ve heard you might get access to some features through the connected spa, but I don’t know that for sure and I do know people who have tried sneaking in, but I guarantee that won’t work because there is always a wellness centre attendant at the entrance, so I don’t recommend that 😂

Hi 👋 thanks for the video. Do you think this card is worth it to use for rent with Chexy? $1500 rent. $1.75 fee Chexy
@matthewjosiah
@matthewjosiah Месяц назад
Hi Priscila, THANK YOU for watching! I MIGHT use Chexy with the Cobalt card and this is why: - It is only a 1x multiplier for something like rent, so there are definitely better cards - You would earn 1500 points per month and be charged $26.25 compared to buying 1500 points, it would cost you $45 - The yearly total would be 18 000 points for $315 compared to buying 18 000 points for $540 You will still be coming out ahead, and the reason I said I might do it is because the points you would earn off Chexy wouldn't be a huge gain, but I am assuming you would also be using the Cobalt card with regular spending where you would be earning 2-5X your spend, so those points can really up quickly and would contribute to a bigger points portfolio. My cobalt card is the biggest points gainer by far and that's why I love it! I strongly believe the AMEX Cobalt card is the best credit card in Canada for me + my spending habits, as well as for many younger people, but it wouldn't be the reason I got the Cobalt card if that is a standalone reason... I recently changed paying my rent through Chexy from my AMEX Business Platinum card with a 1.25X spend to my AMEX Marriott Bonvoy card and now get 2X the points (along with a free hotel night every anniversary... I've got videos on this too haha) so there can always be better options and I think it's important that people find what works for them and not always worry about getting the maximum amount of points possible because then people end up with 100 credit cards and I don't believe that is sustainable haha If I was in your shoes and already had the Cobalt card, or was going to make it my primary card, I would do it, but there might be better cards out there if paying rent is going to be the primary use. I hope my response helps you make the best decision!
@priscilalinares5632
@priscilalinares5632 Месяц назад
Hi 👋 thank you so much for your answer!! It was very helpful. It’s not my main priority to pay rent with the Cobalt but If I have it then I may as well use it to pay rent and collect more points . I just didn’t want to lose money. The other one I have , Visa momentum, gives me %2 only on cash back so my gain wouldn’t be much either. I don’t want to pay high fees on other credit cards and even though my credit score is very good, my income is not high enough to get the Visa Infinite %4 cash back.

I'm glad it helped, and I've got one more thing for you to think about since you said you have a 2% cashback card. Your Cobalt fee using Chexy is $315 for the year. If you used the 2% cashback, you would get $360 back for using that card. Would you rather have 18 000 points that to redeem on a flight/hotel for a variable amount of value depending where you book/when you book/other variables for your travel, or would you rather have $360 cash back?

I can tell you from experience at least on the normal rooms not the pressure like $1,000 rooms there is always seemed that like some of the name brand hotels like Hilton's in Marriotts offered less then what I would have gotten it had I stayed at a more budget-friendly hotel like a super 8 or econo Lodge or something like that. Because usually in those hotels I could get a fridge in the microwave and I also was always offered some kind of breakfast in the morning in the rooms were sometimes more spacious. Also some of them came with coffee makers. But in the more expensive name brand hotels by Hilton in Holiday inns and stuff it was usually a bad bathroom in the TV and usually the room was more cramped than what I was getting at the budget places. This of course is for the standard room for both places.
@matthewjosiah
@matthewjosiah Месяц назад
I really wish the branded hotels like Marriott and Hilton came with breakfasts every time, but that is rare and usually only when you have elite status with the hotels. That would be awesome if it was built in though, and I think it should be!

@@matthewjosiah it just was odd to me because I'm paying more for their basic room and I'm getting less for my money in a lot of ways. So it begins making me question why would I want to pay to stay when is lacking so much that the budget places have.

So I think you could apply those points in statements/purchases as well? Would work like a cashback then with that option? and last question... how much $ that would be? Thank you so very much!
@matthewjosiah
@matthewjosiah Месяц назад
In my opinion, it depends on how you want to use those points. THEY WILL GO FURTHER IF YOU REDEEM THEM FOR GOOD FLIGHT OR HOTELS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING (sorry, I just wanted to make that clear 😂) but sometimes it’s not about the $$$. Sometimes it would be great to use your points to pay off statements, buy a gift for someone, etc. The numbers I’ve seen online are you can redeem for a ratio of 1000 point for $10, so each point in valued at 1 cent. This can be similar to the AMEX point ratio when booking flights and hotels, but by doing things like transferring them to a partner program, booking in offseason or certain days of the week, special offers, etc. you can really maximize these points to much more than 1 cent per point. In the end, it comes down to what your goals are, but if they aren’t to redeem them for hotels or flights, I might look at cashback-specific cards that you would earn high than you would compared to the “1 cent” example here. It’s hard to compare these in general, and would be much easier to compare 2-3 cashback cards to the cobalt card based off their earnings, rewards, and places you shop.

Would you consider getting the ION+ to upgrade your Avion points to 3x in certain categories?
@matthewjosiah
@matthewjosiah Месяц назад
Great question, personally I wouldn’t and here is why: 1) I’ve built up my relationship with RBC since I was 18, and it is available to me locally, but I believe AMEX to be the best rewards program in Canada for lots of reasons I’ve discussed on my channel. 2) I can get up to 5X points (5X food, 3x streaming, 2X gas, 1x everything else) with my AMEX Cobalt card, which food and gas are major spending categories for me, so I want to maximize my points earned based on the 5X compared to 3x with ION+ but also more importantly where I spend a majority of my money. 3) I don’t want to add any more credit cards for the foreseeable future just for management sake. If I was someone who wanted to have a huge portfolio of credit cards to maximize the best rewards in every possible scenario, I might consider it for the place I can’t use my AMEX, but I don’t want to carry around 15-30 cards to do so. I have 4, they work in a system that works for me, and I’m happy with that haha I hope this helps explain my reasoning although I can totally understand why people would choose to get it!

Good afternoon Matt, I sent your gr8ness email a message, but I'm not sure if it's still active. I just wanted to let you know that I think you have an amazing mentality - not just financially speaking, but in general! 😄 I just found your RU-vid channel today when doing a little research on credit cards (I am trying to plan out the next few to get in the best possible order), but I already learned numerous things from just a few of your videos! I am shocked at the "paying your rent with a credit card" and some of your travel/hotel hacks! 😱 I initially found you through your Costco membership video, but I loved your content and watched more! Very glad I did haha 😝 I would love to talk more with you if possible: what you discuss is EXACTLY what I'm interested in! Most of my friends and family are not interested in and/or do not understand the benefits of financial planning, maximizing credit card benefits, real estate, and/or investing (stocks, as well as in one's health lol). I am relatively young, but always prioritized long-term goals. So I do not connect well with my peers who do not cultivate healthy/beneficial financial habits. For example, I am very interested in real estate and earning passive income through rent (I bought my first apartment unit with a roommate when I was 23 to ditch renting myself). I also purchased whole life insurance for myself around the same time, but investing in property, life insurance, and legacy planning overall are not common interests/conversations I can have with a lot of people (usually I talk to older people to understand lol) . . . 😅😔 So I REALLY appreciate those who realize the value in financial freedom and wealth-building. It's so interesting and practical for everyone! Please let me know if we can chat more, I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts on a number of (other) things! At the very least, I hope you could share contacts and/or links to find others who think similarly as yourself/myself! I'd love to see videos on more topics (such as the things I mentioned above). 😛 The best way to contact me is to respond to my email or this comment I suppose, since these comments are public . . . 😅😬 I also admire that you respond to all the comments on your videos, so I'm hoping to hear back from you somehow! 😁 Mahalo (thank you) and please take care! I apologize for the late reply - I thought I got back to you and realized I hadn't - it can be hard to compare the values of AMEX points because the redemption value can change. Sometimes you book hotels with them and depending on location, time of year, etc. the value can be different and I've seen the same thing happen with flights. But, it's commonly accepted in the space to see the value of 1-2 cents per AMEX point in Canada when used for air travel or hotel redemption, although some people do much better than that when redeeming points and it boggles my mind haha The main thing I would look at in your case is the cost to buy the MR points directly from AMEX. The current rate is buying 100 points for $3, so at that rate 14 400 points would then cost you $432 total. Buying points is going to be more expensive than earning them more often than not unless there is an insane bonus that comes up. When I looked at making this decision for myself, I recognized that it made sense for me, but you've got to make that call for yourself because it might not be worth it to you.

Amex cobalt (5x points eating out and food deliveries) RBC ION+ (x3 points Groceries at loblaws, restaurants that don’t accept amex, gas at petro canada -3 cents off. Streaming services. Transfer premium points to Elite points, transfer points to transfer partners same as amex to pool points) RBC Avion Infinite Visa (travel, vip banking to waive $120 annual fee.) Rogers World Elite Mastercard (rogers and shaw bill, costco 2% back, 3% on foreign transaction fees, put earned cashback towards any annual fees) What do you think about this credit card portfolio for a family of four that does a lot of groceries and food deliveries that plans to travel 1-2 times a year on points. What would you change?

Honestly, I think that combination is great because you have the AMEX, VISA, MASTERCARD options, and your justifications for each card are solid. The main thing I would look at is to challenge you to use the Cobalt card for your grocery purchases as much as possible when you don’t shop at Costco, so you mentioned the ION+ gets you 3x points at Loblaws. I always shopped at Loblaws stores, but when I got my Cobalt and made it my primary spending card, I swapped grocery stores to Sobey’s franchises to get 5X points, so this is at places like Sobey’s, IGA, Safeway depending on where you live. Do a quick search to see what Sobey’s grocery options are in your area if you don’t mind switching chains because you can definitely earn more points there! If you are ever looking at adding an additional card, the AMEX MARRIOTT BONVOY card is a no-brainer for people wanting to travel on points because of the free annual night as I described here in this video, and show you in other videos on my channel. Great combination, good luck travelling for free! 🙌

@@matthewjosiah Thank you for your detailed response and your recommendation! I’ve tried shopping at either Save on Foods and Safeway but I noticed that I always end up spending $30-40 extra depending how much I would spend compared to shopping at superstore. So if I do groceries 4 times a month, thats $120-160 extra month. So I couldn’t justify shopping there even though I would be getting 5x the point because I would still be at a loss compared to shopping at superstore. That’s why I included the ION+ to at least still gain x3 the points and save money at the same time. I shop at T&T also which also doesn’t accept Amex so I would use the ION+ there too. I will look into the Amex Marriott Bonvoy!

@AbztractPictures it sounds like you’ve got a great justification for where you use your cards and why AND how it makes sense financially, so I love seeing that! I have 4 cards and there’s a time and place to use each of them and even when I look at all the other cards out there I could benefit from, I have a system that works for me and feel no need to add another one. It seems like you’ve got a great system and I hope it keeps working for you and those points keep stacking up! 📈

@@AbztractPictures I made a specific video outlining the 4 cards I have and the reasons why I chose them. It's here if it helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UteaFso06fc.html
