Whenever i pass by a lineman or qualified elwctrical engineer my dad will always say "thats the life i want for you." I went to school and studied hard but had a lot of trouble with the teacher as im a slow learner. Then when i got out in the field it was way different to anything in the classroom. People were mean because they thought they were better there's a genuine competiveity. I thought going to school would get me past the entry level. It didnt that was a year wasted. Every employer would tell me that didnt care i went to tradeschool. So my first job wasnt an electrician the one i applied for. But i was a labourer and they bullied me senseless. I was the only one that was dirty and sweating. The electrical master and first year apprentice were clean as leaving site meanwhile i was gettint yelled at for everything by this huge south african. Which makes me sad that immigrants to this country can gain such high esteem and boss around the natives. Especially in the trades he would keep comparing my country to south africa. I realised i wasnt competitive enough i dont love working that much i dont get satisfaction looking at a circuit board seeing it finished. I feel relief that its over. I loved working with electricity in school despite the fact they make you scared of the red wire. When i recieved my first 240v shock. I ruled out industrial. Ive known fellas that have been thrown by 10k volts slowly cooked alive. Little did i know thats where all the money is. There are millions of domestic electricians theres not as much money as electronics or industrial work. I dislocated my arm the same year i graduated and lived with it for a year without treatment as i didnt know it was dislocated. I had very little self esteem. The job i had just left my boss was definitely autistic or ADHD. He would tell me how replacable i was. That i was a lazy temp even though i was working on my knees scraping old appliances while he walked around the shop looking for work for me. When i got the labourer job i was stressed and wanted peace. I didn't want the job to be constant negativity. after cleaning up after the electrician, installing the conduit being told off for leaving tools around. Then going back to the electrician his tools were everywhere again. I cleaned them up went to the bathroom got told off for leaving without asking my boss which is weird he would expect me to ask permission to use the portaloo. I get up in the roof. I was organised the company never supplied us with flashlights noone had one. I had multiple from home. I let them all borrow them. I shouldve given them a hard time. "Come on! roofies with no lights you guys are useless." But no it turned into me getting told off for having tools they didn't. "Why didnt you give us this earlier." I get in the roof he says "bring a handful conduit bends." I grab more than i think. I know what this guy is doing. He is looking for excuses to blow up and yell at me. I was one short. "Boy! I told yew to bring the codewit bends boyyy" we get in an argument in the roof over one missing conduit bend which im certain fell out of my pocket as i knew i grabbed an even number. And i ran out on an uneven number. He made me wait 20 minutes in a roof for my lack of judgement. He told me to wait while he grabbed it. I heard him down stairs "this guy is useless he didnt bring enough bends." I was nothing but nice to these people. Its given me a hatred for white south africans. I was smiling despite my mum's alcoholism yelling at me everyday. My boss yelling teachers yelling. I was never good enough for anyone. This south african decides to get on the roof despite the masters advice not to get on the roof in rain. He sets it in a really bad spot in front of the door on the top step he says "you first." I had enough i said "fuck off im not going on the roof if the master says its a waste of time this is your goose chase not mine." He sets up the anchor hooks on and says "yep we cant work up here too wet." As hes coming down the ladder collapses under him from his shit postioning even in my 19 yearold mind i knew that it was a waste of time and he placed his ladder poorly. I begged for it to happen i wanted this guy to crack his skull open for being such a prick. He blamed me for not spotting the ladder. We went back to the shop. I get told off by the office workers for not responding to an email. Now white collar people and blue collar dont mix. I hated this woman. I smiled explained my situation. Hid in the toilet and raged silently to myself as i hated this job. And i hated myself for not being good enough to handle the abuse. I left said goodbye. My dad had my car. So i walked home. I cried half the way. Then my dad picked me up and said how was the first day? I said it was okay very hard. My dad has adhd or something because he never focuses. I start talking about my day and i say something that reminds him of his day. Then he talked about himself all the way home. I quit on my second day. I also walked home that day crying. My dad told me it was one of the biggest disappointments. I still havent recovered from that experience and it was 2 years ago. Hes telling me he wants me to go back to electrical. I have been a beekeeper and horticulturalist since then while my body healed and the work is more rewarding. Fun and free. And i wasn't dying every day unfortunately it doesnt make money. Being a beekeeper gardener. Everyone has bad experiences but this has scarred me violently. No job has scarred me like the trades its made me angry. I hats the long hours i hate the work and i hate the fact youre expected to love it.
Memorizing and understanding are two different things. We live in a society that depends on electricity. EveryBoby should know something about it. It should have been covered in high school. *Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics* by Stan Gibilisco There are 7 editions by now. We should have a K-12 National Recommended Reading List.
I really think I'm going to do this Electrician program this time. I managed to learn a few things in 4th grade but then later on went to Multimedia Technics. But The chances in succeeding in Multimedia Technics are so low because all these Higher programs and Universities have their expectations of what your creativity level should be. So I figured I had some basics that I might go back to and evolve from there. I really wish I'll have the right mindset to do clean and efficient work during and after this training course.
I’ve done electrical for 6 years. I work in any state I want, if I’m unemployed it’s because I want the vacation. Between side work and the demand for the trade is overwhelming… once you have the groove down then you can easily work for yourself and scratch out the employer. However… the amount of knowledge needed as well as work ethic is real… I mean god damn real…. You work in every dirty, uncomfortable, as well as tight spaces. However the independence you gain from the knowledge is a life saver.
As an auto technician turned commercial electrician I am so tired of seeing these stupid videos with stock footage showing 50% of the workforce as women - in 14 years of working in the trades I can think of two actual women that I have worked with hands on and neither of them were any good at all. 🙄
Don't let the 15-20 an hour deter you from becoming an Electrician. I will tell you now you newbies that you can work your way up and eventually Project managers and Inspectors. These can pay day rates at and you can make 200k a year (with overtime of course). There are jobs that can pay 75 an hour and it depends where you go. You will learn this once you get into the trade and make your way up and establish a good career network. You get into the commissioning portion with a major corporation and work overseas you can easily make 300+ a year. Establish good work ethic and you will never be out of a job. Always learn on your personal time. Don't be one of those people that only allow themselves to learn what the company provides because you will always have to make self investment. This is coming from someone with 17 years in the industrial industry.
I am very interested in electrical work, I did studies in electrical courses dealing in air conditioning, electrical maintenance and installation, solar and motor control.... I am interested in an aviation electrician job. Could you help out and find the school for that.
I was a plumber for 4 months, and I didn’t enjoy it because I worked with poop. This much cleaner job is something for me, I will go as IT-electrician as German navy soldier on a ship.
I honestly think this is why a lot of older TV personnel are more humble and grounded, because their careers were forged through necessity and they weren't afraid to get their hands dirty and play in the mud.
my dads an color blind electrician and he is one of the best past all his tests 1st time 100% and won multiple 1st place prizes in competitions idk what your talking about
That’s what I’m saying lol I’m a single mother switching careers im making just a little under that without schooling I’m trying to see what makes since time and money wise.
Bruh idk where you get your numbers from but in 8 years already earning six figures quadrupled my gfs salary and she has her masters degree. Two days of over time pay for me is equal to her 2 week paycheck lol. TRADES ARE THE FUTURE, they’re basically what use to be taught in all universities until they removed it from the curriculum and fooled the middle class into thinking the only way to get a job is with a degree. Despite the plethora of evidence that says otherwise, look at the richest most successful people, no degree dropouts. Should tell you that Uni teaches 😂 is only a measure of perseverance.
I’m a solar electrician in California. Even with the industry hurting at the moment, base salary is 120k a year. After bonus and over time I’ll clear 180k. Totally recommend this trade
“Why did you pick this career” The money.. who tf wants to do it just cause ofc it’ll be a fun learning experience but if it wasn’t for the money we’d have no electricity 😂
@@BoxingIntelligence I got lucky with this job. I just graduated with an associate in electrical systems. I have no pass experience. I only have in class training and learning. At first it was hard finding a job because where I live you have to already have experience or know someone in the company. Luckily an alumni that was in the same program as me was willing to train anyone that’s either graduated or in the process of graduating and is ready to work. I gave that person a message and I got the job. Hopefully you can find someone willing to train you. Just show you’re ready to learn!
@@kanyesada3240 thanks for the advice and electrical systems is that dealing with plc programming and stuff like that? bc if it is I have to get into that program is a plus for a electrical career
